It's quite difficult to tell if the woodruff key has moved though! My valvers key had sheared, and you couldn't really tell if it was out at the crankshaft end, the play on the bottom pulley was barely noticeable, but it put the camshaft static timing out by 3 teeth. -

You'd better check the static timing first - make sure the crankshaft timing sprocket hasn't moved. -

I'll have to give it a go...its a real pain drying the car off, any sun at all and most of the car (its black) is dry before I get to it. I don't know about the filter de-ionising the water, thought it would be more of a fine particle filter, but if it works then great :)

Ng, My valver used to do that, it was the master cylinder. I reckon the piston and cylinder had play in them causing it to jam at the end of its travel. Also look at the rod from the pedal to the cylinder(in footwell), you'll probably find its damp with clutch/brake fluid. If the seals and pistons are worn, some will leak back onto the rod.

If its a Gatso only flashed once its probably OK, happened to me a couple of times. If it flashed twice - could be a Truvelo.

I think its because the manufacturers want the car to get up to temperature quicker. If the thermostat lets water pass through when cool - it'll take longer to reach operating temp.

Coullstar, the best bet is to have a shop around, and see what figures the paintshops are quoting. Preferably go for a paintshop that has some reputation.

You'd better asking the guys who sold you the stuff, they should be able to advise on the characteristics of the paint and lacquer (different between manufacturers) and how you are going to apply dry it (baked or air dry). The factors I get paint from are very helpfull and good with advice. The original L041 is a base coat and lacquer job.

Yep, i've noticed on some newer thermostats there is no 'weep hole' which would allow water (and air) to pass if the thermostat is stuck shut!

Don't use a flush on a 16V, my tappets were quiet until I used the stuff, been noisy ever since!!

Bighands, A hose will get it out, just make sure your not flushing it onto your driveway its messy gooey stuff. You'll have to let it run for 10 mins on each pipe - big globules of it will pour out. You'll also have to wash out your engine bay as well. You can put washing up liquid in when flushing it - as long as you flush out afterwards. We also tried washing machine powder -it doesn't foam much, bit I'm not keen on it as I think it affects alloy. Whatever you do, don't run your car with either in the system!! Its by far one of the worst jobs I've done on a car, that and brake fluid I can do without!!

I've helped my mate with a few cars (all Rover 200's!) the best way is to remove the hoses and flush the system out with a garden hose - that'll get most of it out. Be carefull with mains water pessure though - ours is wicked! As for the brakes you really need to replace the fluid with fresh stuff -chances are it will need replacing anyway. Don't cut corners with your brakes!!

Whitee, I fitted one of Daves repair kits, and are quite fiddly, better with an extra pair of hands. I basically held the handle open witha screwdriver between the handle and lock - tape it into position. Then hold the spring back and manoeuvre the new part into position. It looks as though its out of alignment, but its just a case of getting the handle position correct! Good Luck!

That's just the servo working. When bedding in brakes, I usually go for a drive for half-an-hour and use my left foot to press the brake pedal every few minutes - just a dab. Better to make sure no-ones is behind you. It'll help bed them in quicker.

Croft, I had that one time, it was the rubber burning on the siezed cambelt tensioner, may be wise to check it out!

Welcome NDice, I'm sure there was a Vr in Autotrader last week not far from you! I'll have another look! You'll love the Corrado - its looks, handling, quite unlike other cars on the road today! Most pro's and Cons are covered in the comments above. They can be expensive to maintain, I don't know how handy you are with a spanner, it helps a lot!! You'd better factor in some cash for extras (NOT dice) as you will want to upgrade something. If you are going to spend a lot, get the prospective car HPI'd as a lot of Corrado's are accident damaged/repaired. All the best and good luck!!

B-man, If you have the old dizzy, try putting that back in, see if it makes a difference. You seem to have checked everything, only a massive vacuum leak is left, make sure they are all airtight!

I was winding my 16 y.o. nephew on an internet site he used to frequent - thought he had a stalker, I eventually confessed when he started to get worried. He kept on saying "I should've known it was you" "How could I have been so stupid".....Ah the joys :D
