  1. I tried for 9 hrs yesterday to get through to get my F prefix plate and finally managed at 5.35pm.....so now I have three private plates...oops. Strange thing is, I have also seen another F plate I like.....I think I have a bit of a problem

I have B19 VWC, and the other two will remain a bit of a secret for the moment

  2. Haldex 4WD and turbo it, Porsche 17" split-rims and bigger 4-pot brakes......job done.

Just what I would do  congrats on the purchase BTW, you ever find that OZ wheel I tried to help you out with mate ?

  3. Aye, but I don't have a VR6 tho (G60 is 22mm isn't it ?), and I think the pedals are not interchangeable between the G60 one and VR6 one, so would need a new VR6 pedal too. As far as the MK4 one goes, is is a direct replacement to the G60 one and the pedal doesnt need to be adapterd or replaced with MK4 Golf one ?

  4. Hey all,

Fairly sure I have read somewhere (not here, and have done a search) in the past about people fitting a larger (23 mm ?) master cylinder to their rado or MK2 as it vastly improved pedal feel etc. Does anyone have any ino on this or know which model of vee-dub the master cylinder would have been from that they fitted ? Seeing as am doing everthing else to the brakes, it would be rude not to have the master and slave cylinders replaced at the same time,

    Cheers

  5. Quality, that means nearly have everything now brake-wise ready to fit.

Just ordered a pair of alloy MK4 calipers for £103 delivered which was good price, and will paint them red myself. And seeing as I saved money here, ordered a pair or new caliper carriers and slider pins from VW for £127.04 delivered. So brake spec now will be as follows:

Brembo 4-pot front calipers with alloy carriers

    305x28mm front brembo slotted discs

    Brembo pads

    MK4 alloy rear calipers

New VAG G60 rear caliper carriers

    Brembo rear discs

    AP Racing rear pads

Also have new bearings front and rear and new handbrakes cables to fit as well, should be a massive improvement !

  6. Dunno about doing anything with the hard brake lines, will just be getting garage to fit everything tbh at same time. Wheels are ETA Porsche "Turbo" twist 3-piece split rims in 8x17" size all round, plenty of clearance I think (have seen Brfembo's fitted to cars that have these wheels).

  8. 3corsameal,

what model of MK4 Golf do those part nunbers that you posted up correspond to ? Can you use MK4 calipers from ANY MK4 Golf ? Just want to try and get them a bit cheaper than from VW or BigRed and have seen some for £55+VAT each but they have no part numbers just model type,

    Cheers

  9. Six votes so far for the S3, hmmmn.....is this per-chance due to the Seat vs Audi badge debate ? I thought Cupra's were meant to be really good fun and drive well ? This is a pretty modded one and has a lot of toys for the money. Yes, the Audi will most likely have better build quality but the Seat will be quicker and more fun, yes, the 4wd allows you to put power down better grip etc, but it robs a lot from the driving experience I have heard as well as S3's being described as even a bit boring and bland ?

  10. Hey all,

A mate is discussing buying a new car at the moment as has been thinking about both of these, so I said I would ask on here for folks opinions. Both seem to be around £5-£6k for a 2000-2001 model, with 60-70k miles and SH. He has seen a couple he likes, one is the S3 210BHP version, but easily remapped to 265BHP and the Ibiza has been modded to 260BHP. He has yet to test-drive either as they are both quite far away.

Anyone have any preferences or stories about test-driving either ? Any advice or opinions welcome,

    Cheers

  11. Feck, £179.78 just for the calipers, surely they can be had cheaper from elsewhere other than VW ??

I have all the bits bar the calipers and the carriers ? Can the carriers be bought new direct from VW and any idea of prices mate ?

Called Big-Red and they can do new ones, fully powder-coated in red or other colours for £165 delivered (as long as you send them old calipers back) or £205 delivered (if old ones not set back). Black ones are £125 delivered (no surcharge) or £165 (surcharge inc.). Standard finish (electroplated) are £140 delivered per pair (no surcharge) or £180 delivered (surcharge).

Think will end up getting the Big-Red powdercoated red ones, if I send them back my G60 ones and a spare old MK4 one I have lying around will only be £145 delivered which is not too bad really, compared to VW price.
