  1. Ok Ive my Corrado a few days and Im already posting problems  Anyway it might not be a problem yet but here goes... Every time I turn on the keys to ‘ON’ I hear a short (3/4 secs long) “bizzzz” noise and then it stops, then when I start up the car I hear the bizzzz noise going constantly. This can barely be heard inside the car but opening the drivers door and it becomes much more clearer and it sounds like its coming from just underneath the car maybe a little bit behind the drivers seat! A friend who would know a lot about cars, said that it was the fuel pump and that it was quite normal... Im just alarmed that it is so loud! Is it cos its such an old car or is it that its knackered? Its loud enough so that if standing at the drivers door talking, their attention is drawn to this constant bizzzz noise that they can hear over the idling engine???
  2. Storm Classic, I was wondering this as well when i was looking at the car first cos as i understood it, the 1.8 valver was discontinued august '91. But going through the tax book later i saw that the first owner was a garage and they had it for a good while so im thinking it was a showroom car for a while before they registered it or something... It's an Irish car alright from the start! but no e/w at all.... cheers for the fix-up jimsG60, ........ and GIXXERUK your wheels are nice too   .
  3. Cheers guys, thanks for the comments. To be honest, I'm not really into the whole modding scene and I reckon the C is a great looking car as standard. But in saying that I wouldn't mind some bigger wheels (like 'Jims G60's ones) and a 3 bar grille and some other small things Ive seen on various cars here. Did I say I wasnt into modding? :? Anyways, I think I'll stay put a while and get used to the car and figure out what i really like and dont like fully first!!!
  4. How about now??? I have the photos in Photobucket, so i just edited the first post and just put the url in straight???
  5. Hello, Ive been an almost daily visitor to this site since last summer when the search for my Corrado started. So after months of fustration I'm finally able to post in the members area. I collected my Corrado last weekend. It’s a 1.8 16v, 101k miles, met silver, 5-spoke alloys, all electrics perfect, no sunroof or e/w, bodywork in vgc bar some small shopping trolley dents on the doors, interior in excellent condition also. So here are some pics. Looking forward to sharing all my problems!!! Cheers, paddyg *mod edit - fixed first pic link for you - Henny*
  6. I think that the best way to describe an "about-to-break" cv joint is a clack clack clack sound when you are turning tight eg a small roundabout. Are the rubbers gone on the cv joints?
  7. Normally pumps stop pumping when the petrol reaches the pump tip, I think there must be a sensor there measuring air quality or something so it knows when your tank is full to the top. What I've found is that if you stick the handle right down allowing little air to get in, it sometimes cuts out at half full or even less. Try pulling the handle out a good bit as the guys above have already said.
  8. Thanks very much for all the info guys... should come in very handy... cheers
  9. Cheers for all the info Henny, you're a fountain of knowledge!!! Would I be right in saying a smokey exhaust is another sign of the engine using a lot of oil?
  10. Its a 1.8 16v engine, and some pics would be great if any one could oblige? thanks
  11. whats Mayo? Is it fair to say its white and jelly-like? like mayonaisse or something??? cheers
  12. Where can you tell if the coolant is low? I've read that if the engine is leaking coolant then it's a sign that a blown head gasket is only up the road? how is it possible to tell if the engine is using too much coolant other than asking the owner? Hope to go looking at a corrado this weekend! Cheers for any help.
  13. i would have to agree with Phil here in that the only true way to record an accurate value for MPG is top fill it up to the top, reset your miles counter and then drive as you normally would and when you fill up next time, fill to the top again. Record the amount you put into the tank and the number of miles travelled and work it out from there. I wouldnt trust the gauge on the dash to be honest !!!
  14. Warped pressure plate in the clutch maybe??? I had something similar in a car where at a junction i'd take my foot off the clutch and press the accelerator and then the car would sorta die for a second or two then power into life!!!
  15. or maybe drive a bit slower???? ....nah... where can you get those house changing forms!!!!
  16. cant say for sure to be honest!!! did they ask when you were given the quote if you had any points? Although a friend of mine from London was caught speeding in Ireland when he came over for a weekend, and nothing ever happened. Think they just didnt bother pursuing him cause it was a UK car. If its only for a year then maybe if you're caught speeding you could say that you're on holiday for the weekend and hope for the best!!!
  17. I think that you will find that it is more expensive over here especially if you are young and male which i presume you are..... The insurance companies over here come down really hard on that group. If its a fast car and you dont have your license very long ie you are under 26, then it will be high. You always hear of stories of fellas being quoted 4k/5k/6k for 1 yrs insurance. Complete joke i know.... but shop around, i think the best to try are Quinn Direct, and Axa whom I'm with. I pay only 1000 Euro / 650 sterling for my 1.8 banger/carina  although ive a full license for 7 yrs and no claims on my own policy started last yr.... Living in Dublin wont help either, but hey at least you'll have a plentiful supply of the black stuff :D

    stumped

funny... I had that exact problem last week in the car im driving at the moment...its a Toyota Carina2   . Anyway, had that problem, i thought it may have been blocked or partially blocked fuel filter. But I was told that because the the amount of fuel pumped to the engine is always in excess of what is required, a lot is sent back to the tank, therefore only when you're at high revs and using all the required fuel will you know if the fuel filter is blocked or partially blocked. So anyway, i was taking it home to our local mechanic to have a look at, and when i got out onto open road it seemed to clear itself, and i havent had any problems since. :? So now ive put it down to dirty fuel possibly??? i do have 217k on the clock though so i reckon its not the last of my problems!!!!

    Cheers for all the help...
  20. Hi, Can someone please give me a few postcodes for the main cities in the UK. Im looking to see where a car in autotrader is located and it just tells you that its X miles from whatever postcode you put in. I went to college in cardiff and have one for there so I know its about 140 miles from cardiff, but where is that? Cheers for any help, p
