I was just on the Tesco Ireland site there getting a quote and i read that they cover up to 560 Euro for windscreen cover and this included "any scratches caused by breaking glass" but didnt see anything about the rubber strip. If they dont then who's to stop you breaking it yourself and saying it was a stone???

Hey, I tried the search but it didnt show up what I was looking for, so here goes. I want to clean the interior headlining and Ive read a similar thread before and it said to be careful that the headlining doesnt fall off? I cant find that thread now. Has this ever happened to anyone? Will the headlining fall off (or get saggy) if it gets wet? What was the name of the autoglym clearer anyone used? Any tips on doing the job? Cheers, paddyg

Hi Debbie, In my 16v, I've noticed something similar when I start the car without much accelerator. I noticed that it used to start, and the revs drop below 1000, and continue to fall until it'd cut out. But ive recently noticed if when starting I apply a 'healthy' amount of accelerator say to push it above 2500 revs on start-up, i dont come across this problem anymore. Try it and let us know?

I usually reset my mfa miles travelled setting and also reset the analogue clock in the dash (its an early valver) and they mfa is always out by a mile or two!!!

What if the clock wasnt always reading 99.9mpg? eg, my 16v C MFA1 mpg reading sometimes works fine (25-35mpg), but other times will give me readings of 60, 70 and 80mpg. Sometimes I'll go on a long drive and the reading will progressively move towards 99.9mpg and stay at that reading until the journey is over? Would this still be the pipe you are talking about? and if so then how come I'm able to get proper readings sometimes. I can verify every other setting in the MFA works properly, ie speed=distance/time... if you know what i mean, so does that say its not the mfa circuit board? cheers paddyg

Cheers Henny, yeah its a 1.8 16v with about 100k miles on it? is it a big job? ie should i look into getting a specialist mechanic like autowerks or someone or would any mechanic worth his salt be able to do this for me? Also how much is this going to cost me??? Its due a new timing belt as well so might as well get them all done together!!!

Im having the same problem. Its burning a lot of oil, and I've had to top up twice now in the last 1000 miles!!!! I do get blue smoke especially when im idling in traffic, but I dont notice it as much when im driving. What needs doing? valve seals? piston rings? head gasket? head skimming? and of course how much is it going to cost??? Would a compression test tell me which needs doing? and would it harm the engine even further? Cheers for any help.

Hey Rob, I had a noise like this which Im told was the fuel pump priming itself before start up and then its on constant when the engine is started. Although I hear it more under the car on the drivers side. Try opening the drivers door when idling and see if the noise is from around that side? Thanks Rawhide, if they are working fine for you then i guess it doesnt make a difference whether they come off a GTI or not. Surely its worth just asking the local scrappy for regular lupo wiper arms and blades first before ordering i think!!! Cheers

A question that i haven't seen answered although i could have quite easily missed it is... Do they have to be lupo GTI wiper blades and arms or will standard lupo wiper blades and arms do the same job?

ok, last sunday i looked at the hazard circuitry but couldnt see any extra wiring so i didnt go fiddling with it at all as it was getting dark. Then last night I went home from work and tried out the extra readings you can get from the MFA (by holding the switch and turning the key). So after a while reading these settings etc etc..i decided to go indoors. So i got out and locked my car using the key fob! but then as i walked away i realised i saw the drivers indicator flashing! It seems after i played with the MFA and its extra settings the alarm now works on all 6 indicators and not on 3 as before!!! Could the MFA have reset some circuitry or something????

Sorry if im hijacking this thread but no-one's posted in a while, so i might as well post. My problem is that when i lock and unlock the car using the remote c/l alarm key fob only the passenger side indicators flash. The drivers side do not flash at all. This occurs on both locking and unlocking. However when driving, all indicators work correctly as do the hazards. The key fob tells me it is a laserline alarm. Where do i start? Cheers

Well if vw started H/A on H's what does that make mine??? cos Ive no H/A, no sunroof and manual windows!!!

When should the gearbox oil be changed? ie what mileage? would it be advisable to change it every x miles even if you have no gearbox problems?
