It's all related to shearing at a molecular level. Polymer molecules (the additive that binds together the oil chemicals and provides elasticity) are long and thin and when exposed to excess pressure and heat, they shear apart. When this happens the oil gets very thin and loses it's lubricating and absorbtion (of blow by gases) qualities. Mobil 1 15/50W claims to remain stable at up to 300 C, but for how long is not revealed. It is a very good oil though and can take the punishment of modern engines with ultra fine tolerances. Redline oils can also take the punishment as it's basestocks are basically what is used to lubricate jet engines! But it's very expensive. I personally like to see a maximum of 110 C under normal driving conditions and have taken the necessary steps to achieve that. Kev

Looking in the manual, which covers 2.0 16V, G60 and VR6, it says all 3 have a 70 litre tank, which assumes the last of the G60s also got this tank.

Easy way to tell is the 15 Gall tank equipped Cs had the corresponding clocks. If you don't see 15 on the fuel guage, you don't have the tank :( Kev

If I had a spare Corrado and a limitless budget......

No that's gay....
-
I believe all Corrados got the 15 Gall tank from a certain age due to customer complaints. 92 I think. Kev

Aye, it surely does. It's the last function on the MFA. If it's not coming up on the display, either the sensor is missing (located on the trim panel near the offside towing eye) or is shorted to earth. Kev

Their primary use is for swanky lighting

From the manual: "The engine speed should be reduced if the oil temp rises to 145+ degrees C"

Good theory, but if you apply pressurised air to the bottom of the glass, it will drive the air out, this is how submarines work. I have a hunch it *shouldn't* make a difference but it is certainly worth turning the cooler round to try. Kev

Correct, 1763cc x 1.4 = 2468.2 equivalent NA capacity. Kev

It's an American car I believe.

Maplin sell flourescent tubes that run off 12V and are about 10" long by roughly 5mm thick, tiny things. Colours available are blue, white, green, yellow and red. They are for PC cases but since they run of 12V, they can be used in cars too. £10 each including Power converter. Kev

OK, around the thermotime switch are 3 temp senders. One of them (blue/white wire from memory) controls the idle speed. Check the wiring here. The idle should be 1000rpm with the isv disconnected. Kev

LOL.... You lot are a big bunch of rude boys turning my innocent comments into sexual innuendos!

It's worth noting that running the pump dry is a no-no, it relys on the fuel as a lubricant and coolant. Don't worry about sucking up cr@p, cause there won't be any in a plastic tank, unless foriegn objects were introduced by a previous owner. When I changed my pump, the filter was as new, no crud on it at all and neither was there any in the fuel filter. The only thing that might be right at the bottom of the tank is water, from condensation. Underground petrol tanks suffer from this and I know someone that sucked up a tank of water. The filling station in question hadn't done it's daily dipstick test and were liable for the repair work! Kev

Blimey... I'm used to MK2 Golf 12 gallon and MK1 9 gallon tanks where 40 odd quid would see you right.....I've never had a £50+ fuel bill before, so it came as a shock, and I could burn that off in a night's joy ride no problem. Fuel prices are just stupid in this country, but that's another story.... :x Kev

Awesome  Must be putting out at least 400 brake? Kev

Didn't know there was an early and late light! Mine's a 94 so I'm guessing I have the late lights? Cheers Kev

70 litres is the capacity of the VR6 tank as you say. Most I've got in to-date is 63 litres at a staggering cost of £52.40 (Optimax). You have 10 litres from the last white mark to empty, so no need to panic  Kev

24V twin turbo mid-engine anyone? Kev

Now there's an idea, a toaster in the car! Buttering the toast doing 90mph on the motorway could prove tricky though! Kev

Nice one 2CC Some potent machines there! Kev

Oh god hell no! My Dad's new Mondeo is quite cool because it floodlights the footwells and there's also lights on the underside of each wing mirror which illumintate the floor and locks. Believe me, when you visit places with no street lights, they are invaluable. I've trodden in dog poop before and spread it all over my carpet! Kev

If you look underneath the seat, you'll see metal prongs that can be bent to allow unhooking of the material. This then allows you to remove the arse section of the seat cloth and reveal the foam. You can buy seat foams from somewhere, GPC perhaps. Kev
