Expert advice needed (but you guys will have to do !)
Kevin Bacon replied to Ryk's topic in General Car Chat
A good clutch should bite low on the pedal, but if the bite point is progressively getting lower (should get higher as it wears) and lower, then your slave cylinder is probably leaking. The heater control knob bulbs are just standard 1.2W interior bulbs, halfords sell them. As for the rear screen switch, not too sure. You might have to take the switch apart to ascertain what illuminates the button. Kev -
Late heater controls - repair tips - Update 16/11
Kevin Bacon replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in Interior
Yeah of course, you are the governor after all, guv  Kev -
I think you'll need spacers to get the A's to fit, which then causes arch clearance headaches. Not sure about the Sigmas, but as they're a very similar design, I suspect they will be equally troublesome. TT competition wheels do look good but as they're ET31, they stick out a little too far for my liking, especially when viewed from a rear quarter. They are very light though, barely heavier than the 15" speedlines. Kev

Yes the forum can seem all doom and gloom at first, painting a really bad picture of Corrados but think of it this way, if we didn't all share our problems, ideas and knowledge (1200 members don't forget), how many of us would just throw the towel in at the first problem and live to regret it afterwards? If it's full historied and tested, there won't be much wrong with it. No car comes with a satisfaction or reliability guarantee (especially S/hand ones) but believe me, when you take that car for a long drive, any doubts you initially had will vanish instantly. Kev

LOL, so eloquantly put  Kev

Is that your engine on Stealth's wall? Erm, the 2.8 block.....I know you need that to do a 2.9 rebuild but I wasn't sure if you also need it for a much larger capacity increase aswell. Just curious! Ta Kev
-
Yeah good man, that would be excellent. I would also be interested in some pics of that upper tensioner you mentioned and how to replace it etc. Cheers Kev

Welcome to the forum! Air-con, sorry don't know the answer to that but Roddy will know for sure. Idle - That's just the way the 2.9 VR6 is I'm afraid. Trying to get one to idle smoothly 100% of the time is very time consuming and unproductive 90% of the time. I'm sure there is an underlying reason for it but as yet, it's got many people stumped. The VR6 is timed with chains and yes if the tensioner wears excessively, it will throw out the cam timing slightly, but I wouldn't expect that problem from 50K engine. Battery - The heater fan draws a good few amps and the radio can suck about 2-3 amps from the battery aswell. Best bet is to fit the biggest battery humanly possible and be done with it! Kev

Are they what's on your car? I've got an Ice Grey VR too and they seem to suit the colour. Are yours replicas or the real deal? Cheers Kev

Yeah you are right. I don't full understand the theory of inlet and exhaust pulse dynamics but yes engines do need a certain amount of back pressure to work properly. I think it's something to do with the spent gases travelling down the exhaust system, which creates a vortex/vacuum or something which aids cylinder filling when the inlet valve/s open. Prolly completely wrong but it sounded impressive  Kev

That's one of the best 20V installs I've seen! Nice car too. Kev

What attracted me? Seeing two Storms in my dealer (one Mystic Blue and one Classic Green) 8 years ago  The interior - just look at the scuplted rear bench and front bucket seats, nothing came close at the time. The huge bonnet and slab front end  Big round and flared arches! Like the MK2 Golf, it looks great from all angles. And all that is before you actually get in and drive it 8) Kev
-
Yeah that would kick some butt! Do you still need the 2.8 bottom end to do the 3.1 conversion, or can the 2.9 be used? Is it just a piston change, or a combination of crank and piston change? Cheers Kev

My current faves are:- OZ Chrono VW Santa Monica Speedlines, if only bigger! Old skool faves are:- Borbet C Azev A Stil Auto Sigma BBS RX Kev

Not at all, I don't profess to be right all the time! I can take criticism and corrections aswell as giving them  Is the Shelby GT500 the one in 'Gone in 60 seconds' ? If so, then yeah definitely! I really like the old red/white 60s mustang drop top, the same car James Dean drove I believe? Georgeous..... doesn't matter if it handles like a skip on ice when it looks that good

Touche  I had forgotten about the ghastly Chrysler Neon and equally inept PT Cruiser before engaging my mouth! Kev
-
All academical anyway cause I can't afford one :x Kev
-
Yeah well it is national VR6 coolant leak week  Most of the arrows are on the matrix, which can rupture anywhere, hence the random scattering of them! Kev
-
Useful info, cheers. Any idea what the differences are? Kev

VGI is Shrick's manifold. I think the original Peirburg/VW design was called VSR. PhatVR6 will tell you, he knows a lot about it. I've been in two VRs with the Shrick and I wouldn't say it's worth £1500. Yeah you do notice an improvement, but not £1500s worth of improvement, that's supercharger money, which you DO notice! Fluff, Vince doesn't hold the 2.9 in high regard I'm afraid but don't let that you put you off. I've spoken to Vince about the 3.1 overbore and he reckons the amount of money and hassle to build it isn't worth the outcome. I think 230bhp and 220lb/ft is the most you'll see from that conversion, maybe 240 with a Shrick and big valve head. A late 4motion engine has more scope for improvement. It's a better engine than either of the 12Vs anyway. Kev

Blue temp sensor blitzed, making the engine think it's too hot? Kev
-
3 actually dude. 1 does the screen, one does the face/feet and the other does the hot/cold. Biased to what on the driver's side? Feet, face or screen? If it's only coming out of the driver's side, one of the plastic trunks behind the dash must have come off, assuming you've checked the vent flaps are open on the passenger side? If you take the heater panel apart, all will become clear. Kev
-
Attached is a crude diagram of the VR cooling system. I've highlighted the common leak areas with a red arrow. Kev

So long as steel manifolds are well insulated with thermo-wrap, they're pretty good. I've seen a Supersprint MK1 16V stainless 4 branch (specially made for the conversion) liberate 8bhp on a standard engine. Iron manifolds are better in the respect that they retain heat better, which helps pull the exhaust gases out of the cylinders better, but they're quite restrictive. As with everything, you get good ones and you get bad ones. Kev

http://www.awesome-gti.co.uk have a wheel workshop as you describe, but only a choice of 5 or 6 rims. Why not use photoshop to do your own version of it? Have you seen our Members Gallery? Plenty of cars in there and also check out http://www.corrado-database.com I would personally buy the VR6 first, become accustomed with it, sort any immediate issues (if any) and THEN worry about wheels.
