  1. I think it's only the platinum plugs that cost £20 each but when I went in for mine a couple of months ago, they only had one NGK plug listed for the VR and it certainly wasn't platinum, they were about 4 or £5 each. You'll need your chassis number with the oil filter as there are two listed for the VR6. Just ask him to supply the one that's most commonly used as the other type wasn't in use for long and all the stocks they keep of them have an inch of dust on them! V belt or Serpentine belt in the VR's case last up to 50-60K, so only do that if need be, but the belt costs £25 if you're doing it anyway. Oil - Yep, quantum silver is the one to use. G12+ - I would use that anyway as it makes the VR run slightly cooler and now that winter is just round the corner, might be worth doing a coolant refresh anyway. Kev
  2. Could be something in that, hence why you don't see many VR6s with less than 100K on the clock? Kev
  3. Circa 160bhp is about right for a 2.0 with KR cams and so is 20-25% transmission loss. I've dyon'd 4 of my VWs, and they all lost 25% through the box. Kev
  4. No probs mate. Bargain on a trip to B&Q for some bits of metal and bolts/nuts and about 2 to 3 hours one weekend! Let me know.... Cheers Kev
  5. VW installed a self destruct system into the Corrado. When a predetermined mileage or age is reached, the car starts falling to peices and keeps doing so until A) it completely falls apart is taken to the scrap yard out of sympathy, or B) the owner runs out of money/loses faith and takes it to the scrappy out of spite! Without a shadow of a doubt, the Corrado is both the best and worst car VW have ever made. If only they'd injected some of what they put into the MK2 Golf, into the Corrado. Kev
  6. Best thing to do is ring Vince at Stealth Racing and he'll send you all the bits you need. He gets them regularly and knows exactly what parts you need. You're more than welcom to pop up for fitment and then you can see the difference on the journey home  Kev
  7. Blimey mate, sorry to hear about the accident, glad you weren't in the C :? Think of it as fate, because if the ignition switch hadn't broken, you'd have probably gone to the scrappy in the G60! Glad the 'bodge it and scarper' repair got you home OK! Due to sudden failure of your switch miles from home, I'm going to keep one of those lead sets in the car for emergencies, and also a pump relay by-pass lead! The MAF is now in the place we discussed. Cheers Kev
  8. Now that's dedication to the cause! I'll have the sunroof subframe providing it's not to knackered! Cheers Kev
  9. Good news, Bosch have despatched a new MAF to replace my iffy one, no questions asked. So I'll be re-rollering the car when Vince does the rear axle bushes (does the list ever stop??) to see if I get my 8 horses back again :? Kev
  10. Greetings fellow Corrado nut.... Watch out for those bloomin diesels....they can embarrass you very easily if they catch you off your guard! The 330D is a particularly fast diesel and considering the VR6 doesn't do an awful lot below 4000rpm, I'd say you did well to keep up, but then you do have a higher rev range and weight advantages. VW's official 0-60 quote for the VR is 6.9. Other sources have found anything from 6.2 to 7.2. I would expect a medium milage and looked after VR to be below 7 seconds to be honest. You may have a sensor malfunctioning. The VR is fastidious with sensors, they all need to be 100% otherwise the engine won't run at it's best. As for duels, I don't entertain it. It's not the reason I bought the car. I'll have a 'play' with someone on the motorway from time to time but I can't be arsed with racing round streets and country lanes. Although another member and I had a 'spirited' drive on the way to the Stealth Rolling road day! Kev
  11. Photoshop and Corel Draw can both export files as *.ttf I'm not sure about Paint Shop Pro. I am willing to create the font if PSP supports it. I'm not buying a proper font program for a one off job! Kev

    ECU chip

The chip holds ignition and fuel maps. Some nasty car vendors hardwire them to the ECU mainboard but VW have been kind enough to use removable EPROMs, which makes rechipping a breeze. Chipping is quite a lucrative business! I can't imagine a blank EPROM costing more than a fiver, so when Oettinger want to charge my friend £1500 to chip his Leon Cupra R (through a SEAT dealer) to 260bhp (from 210), where on earth is the extra £1495 going? Kev
  13. At last, someone else that knows about that!! I've been telling people that eversince I've been fiddling with laserJet 2's (gives you an idea of how long I've been in IT :? ) and they never believed me! They usually say ozone is in the sky or Boyzone are a pop band and nothing to do with printers......morons! Kev
  14. Rolling road power runs are measured using 4th gear. Kev
  15. Cheers mate, that's a most excellent guide  Totall different from the Golf then :? I shall set about that this weekend - if it's warm enough! Kev
  16. Henny Yeah I just need to replace the actual switch part, not the barrel. On the Golf, the switch is at the bottom of the barrel and the only way to get the switch out is to remove the barrel. You had to drill a 3mm hole in the lock housing at a very specific location and then poke a small screwdriver through the hole to release the security clip. If this is not the case with the VR6, then great! Even easier then  Details would be great, thanks! Kev
  17. The information from this thread has now been compiled into a Wiki article, so I have locked and un-stickied this thread. ================== To get the ignition barrel out of a VR, do you have to drill a hole in an exact location in the housing like the MK2 Golf and release a clip? Anyone have the measurements if you do? Cheers Kev

    Wiper Problem

Yep, you need to tighten the passenger side 13mm nut a bit harder. Due to that part of the arm being alloy, the slipping may have completely worn it out, meaning a replacement arm :(

    DEAD FUEL PUMP

Another thought - do you have a factory immobiliser? I know they can sometimes cause problems. Cheers Kev

    DEAD FUEL PUMP

I'm glad I replaced my pump a few months ago now :? Kev

    IS THERE HOPE?

Kev - sounds like you need to "upgrade" to a G60..........  A 150 TDI and 6 speed box conversion is more appealing. Up to 200bhp and 325lb/ft and 45+mpg  No more chains, MAF sensors, plugs, leads etc to worry about - bliss :D I'd consider a 2.0 G60 conversion though as I've driven one. VERY quick. 246bhp with 238lb/ft 8) Kev
  22. VAG! Yeah they are a git to fit but Stealth have got it down to a fine art. The biggest PIA is the rear brake hoses that connect to the bias valve, they nearly always seize on. Kev
  23. Looks like it fits well. I'm definitely going to have to do this mod now  Kev
  24. Was it a 3.0 or 3.2 M3? 3.0 ones are good for 286bhp and the 3.2 should deliver 321bhp. Kev

    DEAD FUEL PUMP

Have you checked to see how much current the pump is drawing when you bypass the relay? If it's excessive, could be causing the relay to shut the connection down. Just a thought.... Kev
