  1. It was just one of the figures that cropped up on one of the vortex site threads. Thought it sounded a bit cheap but the US generally get car bits cheaper than we do, so didn't question it! Kev
  2. That is very true Mr Charged as the brake disc is effectively a big heatsink, but Porsche and BMW don't seem to have a problem with drilled discs though, mind you they are 33mm+ thick at the front  Grooved discs also reduce effective area and are more prone to cracking, but these days the grooves are radius'd and rarely lead to cracking, unless severely abused. I like my groovies as they just don't seem to fade and they deglaze the pads too, they're just a tad noisy though, which is the only negative! Kev
  3. I'd buy a used one that isn't broken and get it rebuilt. You're looking at a 4 figure sum for a new one from VW :( For US costs, check out http://www.vortex.com and login to the Corrado forum but I think you guys pay around 300US$ for a rebuild. As for raising boost level, you'll need to use a smaller pulley, 68mm seems to be a popular choice (I think the stock pulley is 73mm but the G60 gurus will correct me if I'm wrong). To make the most of the extra boost, you'll need to chip the ECU aswell. There's also one or two other things you can aswell but the other chaps will point you in the right direction as I only have base level knowledge of G Laders. Kev
  4. IIRC, the Continental SportContacts won tyre of the year a couple of times? Beat the likes of the F1 on wet/dry grip and noise levels. They're usually really expensive though! Kev

    VR6 what tyres?

isn't that an insurance no-no kev? as you are not using the proper speed-rated tyre for the car's performance potential........even though legally you are only allowed to do 70mph do the insurance companies not "void" claims due to tyres not being speed-rated etc :? My mistake, I've just checked my Bridgestones and they are indeed V rated. Tyres-online show it as being H rated only, which is where I got the pic from. Didn't realise ratings had insurance implications, cheers for pointing that out! Kev
  6. Ah, I did wonder how the shaft got bent in the first place! Kev
  7. Yeah they are good. Cheap copies have no where near the same amount of torque  They're great for polishing too! Kev
  8. Nice workmanship! Puts a few 'off the shelf' ones to shame  Must have taken you ages! Kev

    VR6 what tyres?

I use the Bridgestone Potenza RE720, the best all rounder I've encountered. They're pretty cheap too. Only snag is they're H rated (130mph max) for the 205x50x15 size, but I've not suffered any problems with that  If you want a V rated tyre (149mph Max), be prepared to pay extra! Kev
  10. Thanks for the tip and it is indeed a good one, but the majority of us have now gone over to the Lupo wiper mod, which is cheaper than the cost of a dremel Kev

    17" Wheels

And ET55 is going to cause one or two headaches..... Kev
  12. Oh god, not the Corrado aswell??? I thought VW had nipped that in the bud with the MK2 Golf? Did the Corrado get the same recall as the Golf? Kev
  13. I had a good nose around an R32 at my dealer and it just ooozes quality! If I had one I'd probably make it look like the pic below (Dahlback Racing's awesome monster machine!). Kev
  14. You're probably right. They might be under pressure from, say Clifford, to shift as many as possible! I'd prefer to fit an alarm myself to ensure the cabling is neat and that none of the dash is ill-fitted again afterwards but due to insurance companies insisting on fitment certificates, we can't DIY :x Kev
  15. Glad you like it! When you've become accustomed to it, you can then consider adding anti-roll bars (my preference is Neuspeed) and take your VR6's handling to the next dimension  Kev
  16. Mine is mounted with the hoses at the top but I don't think attaching them at the bottom makes much difference as when the stat opens, the oil is obviously then under pressure and it should also drive any air out too, which would just exit out of the crankcase breather. It's got me baffled mate. Kev
  17. OK, I've just looked at my Stealth invoice and he charged me £189 for my 'VR6 Oil cooler kit' in March. I fitted mine myself and had all the parts you've listed and it works. I really don't know what's going on with the pricing or what bits you're supposed to get etc as he ordered it for me, as per StormVR6. You have all the parts you need, so I can't understand why it's not working :? Kev
  18. Could also be the O2 sensor thinking about it :? The MAF sensor is on your airbox with a silver bit and a plug attached. It measures air volume and determines the fuelling amount. These are renowned for malfunctioning! They're hard to diagnose so the usual solution is to replace it, having checked it's associated wiring first, for breaks etc. The blue temp sensor again tells the ECU how much fuel to squirt in the engine, depending on temperature (of the coolant). It's the middle one of a row of three on the thermostat housing, which is on the front of the engine in front of the radiator fan. The O2 sensor (also known as Lambda probe) is yet again related to fuelling and these can cause the symptoms you describe too. MAF sensor is £150 - £300, depending on where you buy it. Temp sensor is around £15 I think. O2 sensor is around £90 from VW but you can buy 'universal' ones at a cheaper price. First thing to do is hook the ECU up to a diagnostic machine and see what error codes it reports. The MAF won't report an error unless it's totally dead and the O2 sensor is best tested with a Multimeter, any good mechanic will know how to do that. Getting a VR to run smoothly is quite a task, even with engine monitoring tools! Good luck! Kev
  19. F1s, Toyo Proxes T1-S, Bridgestone Potenza RE720, Potenza SO2 or SO3 are all very good in the wet and have decent tread patterns. The Bridgees have dual compounds, so get stickier the more worn they get. Kev
  20. Depends what Punto it is. I've yet to see a punto come close to the VR, and that includes the turbo'd one.
  21. The head gaskets have been uprated now, so if it does go, ask for the newer steel one. Mine's on 84K and on the original gasket, still seems OK. Worry about it when it pops! Enjoy the car in the meantime  Kev
  22. Bentley/Haynes always say not to use the BJ to adjust camber but I've been using that method for years with no adverse affects. Surely the ball joints are adjustable for the sole reason of camber adjustment, otherwise they'd be fixed like MK1 BJs. I would not be happy putting a narrower diameter bolt in the strut, I'd sooner use a camber bolt off a MK1 GTI or one from H&R etc.
  23. Not many places would bother checking the trueness of the driveshafts, so hats off to Bedrock for that one. You can use any VW shaft that has a 100mm CV, so G60, 16V (Golfs included) etc etc. Should be able to get one from a scrappy no probs. Kev
  24. Too hard full stop! They've never had a particularly good reputation to be honest. Kev
  25. No it isn't. I've replaced my TPS and it still cuts out. Kev
