  1. How can anyone take that seriously? Do you really think a Corrado would have a rotary engine in it, or an Otto, what ever that may be? If you want a sensible answer, be less cryptic with your query. Kev
  2. The lumpy idle is just the way 2.9 VR6s are unfortunately but the temp sensor could be worth a change. If the car runs well when cold but sluggish when hot, that's a good indication. If you're getting through a lot of fuel, that is another clue. The sensor is the middle one of a row of three on the thermostat housing and has a blue connector, haven't got a part number. If you haven't done so already, plug it into a diagnostic machine and that will report any dead/intermittent sensors. Kev
  3. Try blocking the cooler and see if it makes a difference. If the engine doesn't run any hotter then it's not doing it's job. My mocal gives me readings of 94-98 with moderate driving and around 102-104 when pushing it. Prior to it's fitment I was getting 114 cruising at 80 mph! Check you have no kinks in the hoses and when the engine is running and oil above 80 degrees, feel the hoses and they should pulsate, indicating a flow. Where did you mount the cooler? It might not be getting enough air. Mine's in front of the radiator. Kev

    Healthy ISV ?

No ISVs are not gas tight. The stepper motor inside controls the valve to alter the air flow characteristics ergo 'stabilising' the idle. Kev
  5. I did think of the ramifications of my wording the moment I hit send, nevermind. Cat's out of the bag now  Kev
  6. What's the mileage? The head looks in good shape physically, minimal deposits and the wetness could be spilt coolant. Nothing too drastic. The sheared bolts can be removed with an easy out, which I'm sure they'll try first before getting the hammers and chisels out  What is the wear lip like on the bores? Can you still see honing on the thrust side? Have you access to dial guages to measure the wear? Kev
  7. Steve, I have made arrangements to meet Mark (anorak) at the Brampton Hut services at 7:30 am, so you need to get your arse round mine for 6 on the dot! Kev

    Porting

Depends what engine you have. Wouldn't bother on a VR6 or 16V unless you plan on cams/exhausts/chips etc in the future. It will make a difference on the G60 though as it has quite a restrictive head. Kev

    Power dip?

I'm with Roddy on the battery terminal. There have been reports of Corrados cutting out going round bends! The negative lead on mine was way too loose, no matter how hard I tightened the bolt. Remove the neg lead, sand the battery post, stick some copper grease on it, undo the clamp bolt fully, knock the clamp on the battery post with a rubber mallet and then retighten the clamp. Repeat on the positive post if necessary. Worked for me, no probs since. Kev
  10. 1 Litre per 300 miles definitely indicates a problem! Are you sure it's not leaking it aswell? How many miles has it done? Have a look at your spark plugs and make sure they're all the same colour. If bores 1 and 6 have oil coated plugs, it is likely you also have bore wear. For some reason, bore 6 goes first, then 1. Which is strange as they are the outer cylinders and run cooler than the inner ones. All 6 should be a light grey colour with digestive coloured brown deposits around the centre electrode. If you do need a full rebuild, you'll need a 2.8 block and standard 2.9 pistons as oversize pistons for the 2.9 aren't available. You just need the bare block. Your crank and conrods can reused. Kev
  11. I dremelled mine too but the problem is a lack of spring tension in the stock wiper arms. Kev
  12. More than likely to be the pump. Only very severly clogged filters will cause the pump to strain. I cut my old filter open out of curiousity and there was bugger all in it. Indeed, when I changed my pump because of the same noise, there was absolutely nothing in the bottom of the tank. Unless one or two of the injectors are slow to open (you can check the injector response time on VAG-COM diagnostics) or clogged, it can only be the pump. Sorry. Kev
  13. The Bosch twins are OK to use. I've used them for 10,000 miles with no problems. Don't notice any difference between them and NGKs. Denso iridium plugs are also big in the States at the moment plus Neuspeed also sell some funky plugs. Kev
  14. Lets see how we get on with BP Ultimate! I don't use Optimax as it makes absolutely no difference. Kev
  15. Quantum Silver is 10/40. If your valve guides are worn you'll still get good power (providing the valves are still gas tight) as it's only on over-run (deacceleration) that oil is sucked into the cylinders. If the throttle butterfly and inlet hose are drenched with oil, it's a good clue. If you've got worn rings and/or bores, power will drop aswell as burning oil. If the rings are shot, you'll get smoke pretty much all the time but when the guides are knack'd, you'll get smoke after booting after a period of over-run or idling. Put it this way, if you can clearly see blue smoke in the rear view or passenger wing mirror then the engine needs a head job at best, or a full rebuild at worst. Kev
  16. Bonrath do them and I think I got mine from Awesome, many moons ago! The pic seems to indicate they do front and rear but their website doesn't mention it. Kev
  17. My VR uses about 1/4 litre per 1500 miles with Quantum silver. Engine has covered 83K. Thin oils tend to kill off the hydraulic lifters quicker. Mobil 1 15/50W is another good oil for the VR but due to the amount you need of it, it's too expensive! Cheers Kev
  18. 16VG60 is the guy you need to speak to about this, but try a search in the meantime as it has been discussed a few times in the past. Kev
  19. 1 litre. Capacity is 6 litres from dry. Yes VR6 heads are the same, except the 24V one obviously. Kev
  20. Volksport used to do some rather nice (and indestructible) H/D rubber front mounts but I don't know what happened to Volksport after G&S bought out Autocavan, who I used to get my Volksport stuff through. The mount was around £60 a few years ago. It's worth noting that the Vibratechnics mounts have been improved in recent years and replacable inserts are available for them. Kev
  21. VR6, 2 years NCD, 6 points, £500 comp from AXA direct. Kev
  22. Roddy my friend, I bow down to your knowledge  You are now officially the forum's car guru! I absolutely adored the RS2 as a kid. It's still an awesome car today. Makes the Volvo T5-R look like a picnic table carrier by comparison. Kev
  23. As my girlfriend keeps calling me a burk, my VR6 is affectionately known as the 'Burkado' She's got a red Ford Ka which I call the 'Ladybird'. I think you should call yours 'Gold digger' cause it'll bleed you dry and feck off to some other bloke a few years later! Kev
  24. He he, good old Maestros. I wouldn't try it on with a Maestro Turbo though if I were you as you will get very embarrased. When I had my Golf 16V Turbo (210bhp), I was annihilated by a Maestro turbo! However, I later found out it had a Rover 220 Turbo engine it :? and the Maestro weighs roughly the same as a packet of Cheese and onion crisps. Kev
  25. Interestingly the Corrado manual says the G60 takes 95 only but the VR6 can take 98 or 95. What effect do you get from Optimax then Lader boys? Does it make a difference? Doesn't do diddly squat for the VR. Kev
