key not not startingcar in hot weather...ignition switch?

Sounds like you have shear bolts.Ive not looked at mine yet so dont know what i have.Theres loads of people done it without drilling or removing said bolts though.Heres another guide that might help you http://wiki.the-corrado.net/ignition_switch_replacement.html or another method which seems to be the most common that i have read,is the same as this but to bend a screwdriver to an angle so that it fits round into the place where the little screw goes so you can get it out.http://www.corradocentral.com/ignitionswitch.htm if and when i get round to doing it,il let you know how i get on mate cos i think this is going to be a pain in the arse to be honest from what people have been saying, and i dont want to go down the route of drilling and removing stuff and chiselling bits away etc lol -
key not not startingcar in hot weather...ignition switch?
dubweiser replied to dubweiser's topic in Engine Bay
I have read on another forum that 93 models onwards dont have the shear bolts but have ordinary bolts instead. This should make it easier to loosen and gain better access. Can anyone verify this?Ive seen photos on another guide with normal bolts aswell so maybe its true..? Here is the guide i think imgoing to try and follow.Maybe it might help others aswell.http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8617 -
key not not startingcar in hot weather...ignition switch?
dubweiser replied to dubweiser's topic in Engine Bay
Thanks for the help fellas. So heres what happened today....Started fine first thing this morning, then after standing all day outside in hot sun i got the same problem, wouldnt turn over with the key. After 5 minutes of trying and wiggling with the key i found that if i really gave it a hard fast turn then sometimes it would crank.I got home and turned the engine off and tried with the key again and same problem occured. So i disconnected red/black plug and ran a jumper wire from the positive on the battery to the starter solenoid and the car cranked first time no problem. So i then got a multimeter and checked for voltage at the plug on the end of red/black wire and discovered that if i turned the key "normally" there is no voltage, but if i gave the key a good hard yank (ooeerr missus!) right round, then i was getting 12v. Ive just checked it again now and it starts almost everytime with the key now that the temperature outside has dropped and im getting 12v almost every time at the solenoid.I think this must be pointing to the switch being on the fritz? -

Yeah i have aa.I have a multimeter,is it easy to check? I saw what looked like a red wire on what i think was the solenoid.I didnt seem to recall a thick red/black one.Does it lead up to the battery? -

cheers jamie.Im of the same mind..i dont want to start taking things to bits when i dont know what im looking at,and i need the car every day for work. You mentioned you unplug the loom and put it into the new switch?Does it just unclip or something under the cowl?Ive never had the steering to bits so dont really know whats under there or what i have to remove to get the switch replaced.Cheers mate -

dubweiser replied to dubweiser's topic in Engine Bay
Cheers for that mate il have a look.Im assuming you have to get at it from under the steering cowl or something.I just hope its that and not the starter motor before i start taking stuff apart lol.Im thinking its not the starter motor because i would of thought if it was that which was sticking, there would be some clicking noise, but i dont hear anything at all -

Thanks mate.I havent got a scooby doo how to begin changing it or even what it looks like lol.Ive looked on ebay and theres all shapes and sizes of stuff, some look like ignition barrels.I dont have to change that do i and keys and stuff?I dont mind banging things with hammers, but when it comes to electrical stuff im useless ---------- Post added at 5:17 PM ---------- Previous post was at 5:09 PM ---------- Or maybe its the starter motor thats knackered,im not sure -
Hi guys i have a strange starter problem.I turn the ignition and all the electrics work fine but the engine wont turn over. There is no sound coming from the starter motor,no clicking or anything. The fuel pump can be heard as normal and all the dash lights etc work fine, just nothing when i try to crank the engine.Ive been reading on here that maybe it could be the ignition switch.Does this sound right to you? The car will bump start fine and goes straight away, but if i turn it off,i get the same issue when i try to start it again with the key. It did this once before a few weeks ago when we had a hot day,and the last two days when the car has been parked at work in the sun (in this glorious british weather lol),the same problem has occured....totally dead when i try to crank with the key,but bumps straight away and runs fine. Ive now let the car stand a couple hours in the shade and tried it again and it turned over first time! Anybody got any ideas please? Icant not use my car in the sunshine..we dont get that much ha ha! If it is the ignition switch,is there any way of testing before replacing it to make sure thats the problem, and anybody got a how to for replacing it please?Ive searched the forum and there was a mention of a wiki how to but cant seem to find it after the site got changed around. Thanks guys

Did you get this sorted mate as i have just developed the exact same fault today. All the electrics work but the car wont turn over.It bump starts piece of cake but nothing when i turn the key?Any ideas
-
Cheers sean.I suspect it will be a pain.Might end up takin it to a garage to get it done as i dont have much time on my hands but i reckon they will charge a gazillion quid to do it.The joys of motoring....

Might try that mate, cheers. When i aqueeze the top hose i can see it weeping somewhere up around the back of the "stub" that the expansion tank hose goes onto.Think there must be a small hole somewhere in that area.Strange place to go though, usually its the cores that leak.Pain in the arse lol.Anu idea how easy/hard it is to replace the radiator?
-
Yeah, never thought about temp rating.I have just cut the old pipe off at the end where the leak was and turned it round as i know the expansion tank end was good, and ran the engine and its still weeping at the radiator end.Looks like it must be a tiny hole at the radiator end, although i cant see anything.New radiator required by the looks of it.Bloody marvelous...NOT!
-
So,my other local store has only fuel hose in stock.Does anyone know if this is ok to use instead or is there any reason i shouldnt use this if its around the same bore? Thanks
-
Thanks mate,im having a nightmare trying to get hold of any.Local motor factors place dont sell it either.
-
Hi,i have a leaky hose on my corrado, its the one that goes from the expansion tank across the front of the engine into the top side of the radiator (Must be the overflow pipe i think, its red and black),and i just phoned the stealers who told me that it cost £36 but its now obsolete anyway so they cant get one for me.Does anyone know what the bore of this hose is please as im going to try my local motor factors to see if they sell some type of generic hose (and it should be a lot bloody cheaper i hope!).Thanks guys

Thanks mate, got finished just as it was getting dark.Phew! ha ha

well one final attempt and a leap of faith with a screwdriver and a hammer and its finally out! woohoo. What a feck on that was.Question for dave though as i mentioned earlier, the new part you gave me is completely different to the old bit that came off.I cant figure out how it fits on?Is the spring meant to now fit inside that angled slotted groove thats in the new piece?Or anyone that has fitted these kits could you point me in the right direction ,cheers guys ---------- Post added at 05:54 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:32 PM ---------- nevermind i got it sorted. Thanks for the help guys much appreciated and big thanks to dave for thre replacement kit.For anyone wanting to try this,i definately reccomend the kit from here, but please allow yourself plenty of time incase you have the f**k on i did with the bloody pivot pin lol.Cheers guys,no more dukes of hazzard style climbing through my window at the petrol station now ha ha
-
i give up.Been on since 11 o clock this morning and i cant get the pin out.Ive managed to gently knock it back as per instructions but there seems no way now i can get at it from behind to push it out the front as the wiring is in the way. This has turned out to be a nightmare
-
got the plug split in two at the bottom,it was the bllody clip half way up the door inside that i couldnt get off.Managed to just about get a screwdriver up inside and prise it away now, clip has broken one of the lugs off though but im not too worried about that.I now need to get the bloody pivot pin out.I just looked at the old bit what snapped in the handle and the new bit that dave sent me in the kit and they dont look remotely the same...am i missing something here?lol
-
hi dave, cheers mate.Ive been trying to get that bloody plastic cover off the end of the door for the last half hour but it wont budge.Ive got enough slack on the wiring now to remove the handle away from the door and see what the trouble is and sure enough the striker arm had bust so your replacement part should fix it.Im having a nightmare trying to get the pin out though, none of the screws will bite, ive tried a million other screws i have in the house and none of them work, ive managed to knock the pin slightly gently inwards so a little bit of it is showing out of the back but i cant get any access to be able to knock it back through.Im bloody P****d off now lol.Ive even tried slowly drilling with a small drill bit to no avail,it wont budge. My last hope is to try and go buy a tap set and hope that a tap will bite on it.

Hi guys, just trying to fit door handle repair kit i bought off here and run into some problems.Ive got the doorcard off no problem and i have managed to loosen the door handle itself, but what the hell is stopping it from coming all the way off?It appearts to be the wiring for the central locking i think that is stopping it (tw wires, red and brown),but how on earth to i detach these from the handle so that i can remove it completely for repair.Any help appreciated guys. Got my fingers crossed at the minute so it dont rain cos i got the door card half on half off and the door wide open edit. just had another look and it is the central locking wires.Ive disconnected the switch at the bottom but the wiring is clipped to the frame of the door inside.Dont know how to remove this clip as there doesnt seem to be any access to it

Yep,far too much mate.I got one last year for 16v and it was no where near £66
