BigEastsideVWG60, no worries m8 - looks like I was wrong too

Supercharged, in truth - fitting new top mounts will make your car sit higher. Worn mounts sag a little & make the car sit lower than it should. The VR mounts are much stronger than G60 ones & flex much less when the weight of the car is resting on them.

I'll have to come down for a SNS chip & some red-tops when I eventually finish sorting my engine out.

 8)

BigEastsideVWG60, 2.0-16v is 139bhp - same as 1.8-16v (UK Spec) I would expect a US spec 2.0-16v to have even less than this due to the emission laws

Piper 270 deg "fast road" cam & adjustable cam pulley sitting on my dining room table at the mo. Gonna slap 'em on when I get around to doing my valve stem seals in the near future.

Cured my suspension clunking at the weekend - new OSF inner & outer CV joints + upgrade to VR top suspension mountings !! 8) I can fully recommend the VR top mounts - far stronger than the flimsy G60 ones

They're talking crap m8 - ALL VW dealers can get the arm & blade as a kit under 1 part number.

G60's initially although as nobody else does them for the VR we will be looking at having some of these made too 8)

Haven't noticed this on mine - although I have never looked for it. Only explaination I can think of is that the worn mounting rubbers may need replacing ?? Heat will make the old rubber softer & more flexible. As they cool down again the hangers will become harder & pull the exhaust back into it's correct position ??

Blue_Joe & I have an opportunity to have some heatshields made - suitable for K&N type cone air filters. Wether or not we go ahead & get these done will depend on how much interest there is. Anybody interested in buying a polished steel heatshield for their cone filter ?? Alternatively, if you don't yet have a cone filter we will be able to supply complete induction kits. Price will be confirmed once interest is gained - greater total order size , lower price. Our supplier is looking to confirm at least 10 items to make a viable order.

Mechanics should never assume - I suspect he will be incorrect. If your car is running well & only using water, I doubt the headgasket will be to blame (nice little earner for your mechanic though  ) Noooo - don't do it !! Radweld is crap & won't solve your problem. Only way to find water leaks is the hard way. Get your engine nice & hot first - most likely place for the leak will be the plastic water housings, 1 on the front & 1 on the passengers side of the engine.
-
Binding rear brakes is usually caused by seized handbrake adjusters on the rear calipers - cables are very rarely the cause. Be prepared to replace the rear calipers fairly soon. Rather unreliable way of testing a headgasket. More accurate way would be to check the oil & water for cross contamination (oil in the coolant or coolant in the oil) also a compression test would be a good idea. Try the common water leak locations in the thread Henny gave a link to & make sure the engine is HOT while you look for the leaks.
