have started noticing a high pitched noise coming from the engine bay when the engine has warmed up at idle. It must be clutch related because it goes away when the clucth pedal is depressed and comes back on release. I think it is the clutch release bearing. Sound right? Is it a serious problem - I am sure it has gotten slowly more noticeable but am not sure what it will lead to. Ideas anyone?

I used just over half a litre!

The platinums - BKR5EKUP are £6.44 Still - a fantastic site -wish I knew of them before!!Thanks very much for this, Deako,
-
I just bought the platinum ones for my service (NGK from the dealer) but must admit I have had absolutely no problem with the standard NGK's - they have lasted very well indeed. Plus they are so cheap - only £3.50 each! I just thought i would get the platinums for the sake of being sure that I had the best.

nice one, Andy! Thanks :)

thanks everyone! really appreciated! Didnt realise that I had to do the master cylinder too. Also - I take it that I just need to ignition on and not the engine actually running for the ABS pump?

Blimey - I swore he said £14.50 each for the heated ones at the stealer and I thought that was a joke. £30 is just embarassingly expensive! -

nooooooooooooooooooo :) -
yes and back then when VW were not making much in the way of luxury - it must have seemed really expensive!! "£23k for a VW!??", many would have protested!
-
I think it was around £22k- may be wrong! I did have a price list but can't find it!
-
I am so sorry and disappointed for you, Dinkus. :( This is really, really, really depressing. I can't believe I had not noticed this thread. I hope you do get another C - buy yours back and keep the new one going with all the spares! At the end of the day at least you are not hurt! AS Kev says - these VW's are indeed very tough beasts.
-
christ! looks sensational - The finest dream modded "C" surely! Nice one, PhatVR6,
-
have you replaced yours, dr_mat, ?
-
Has anyone here actually had a tensioner fail on them?? There are many high miler VR6's on here - have they all had their tensioners replaced? I know a chap who had a VR that he had from new (started as his company car) and he had clocked 230+k on the clock and didn't know what I meant when I spoke of changing tensioners. His was a K plate '93 model.
