Can anyone recommend the exact bulbs and place I should go to get some whiter high beams and white LED sidelights? I don
-
I know mate 8) Given there's a bit of interest I'll take some pics of the ballasts etc as well as the beam pattern
-
I just read that too here:  http://www.mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=32372 I think that looking at it pragmatically

Thanks for the bulb suggestions - I really need to cut down on the amount of yellow! The whole legality thing's a nonsense - the worst offenders are the new Range Rovers, X5s, Q7s and all the other Chelsea tractors with their HIDs about 4 feet off the ground dazzling everything in the opposite direction. My headlights are dipped and only about 5 inches from the tarmac  I'll take some proper pics of the beam pattern with the slr soon you can see what it looks like.

I knew you were going to ask that. I can't remember. I'll look tonight.

After a moment of credit card madness whist having some bits done for the MOT I had some 6000K HIDs fitted at the same time. I have to say that I can

Could be the oft' lamented dodgy ignition switch.

If I was you, for a bit of interim performance gain whilst you

I think you'd make safer power by making the engine more efficient at processing the air which you're forcing into it as sparks alludes to (although my understanding is that with a 68 the service interval is 40K) Just remember that the boost you read on your boost guage is air queueing up against the inlet of the engine because the engine can't use it all. I remember Darren telling me about a G60 with a CNC'd head which would actually read 0psi because the head flowed so well.

Definitely get it laser aligned but most places will charge you less than the full amount for 4 wheel alignment because there's no adjustability at the rear so you're only really having 2 wheel alignment.
-
What he said! 70K for coilovers on the road is pretty damn good going I reckon.

I recently bought the VAG rattle cans and it handily came with both paint and lacquer. Has anyone tried blending the peel back in and then going over the top with fresh lacquer so as to seal it up?

We'll see what happens tomorow morning! Presumably the racoons will have been at work overnight and broken something else. MOT this week too :bonk:

Just plugged the new fuel pump relay in and the car cranked into life. I also topped up the battery after some hard cranking this morning. Hurrah!
-
I just ordered an ECU relay from GSF (£7.50 +vat) and picked up a fuel pump relay from my local garage to see if that works.
-
The engine does turn though - it just doesn't start
-
The buzzing's intermittant and comes from the steering column. It only buzzes after having been cranking the engine for ages and then only sometimes. I went into the local VW specialist and they've suggested ECU relay though.
-
Will it still turn over even if the ignition switch is broken? There is a slight pause between twisting the key and the engine turning though. If you turn the engine over for quite a while there is sometimes a painful buzzing sound too. Would these be symptoms of a dodgy ignition switch?
-
OK not funny. Car won't start again. Same as before - engine turns fine but won't start. There's a crate of beer and a big hug for anyone who wants to come round and fix it.

I think it plugs in underneath the dizzy and is mounted lower down.

The right hand amp's broken now though so I've got a new Alpine amp going in it's place shortly :)
-
All sorted now - the diagnostics showed a faulty Hall sensor as a lot of you suspected :) She's running sweet now
-
Why not get it from the dealers then you know it's the genuine VW article? I ordered a touch up pen and the paint and laquer rattle cans and it came to about £17.
