Thought I'd throw my 2p worth in. I've got 2 intermittant faults on my ABS. One's a b-voltage (sp) or something like that relating to the power and another's the actual valve unit. My ABS light comes on and goes off at randon - very odd. I was told by JMR that if the brakes aren't bled for ages that you can get tiny bits of crud trapped in the valve unit which is made up of very narrow capillaries and this is enough to trip an error. I had the brakes pressure bled and flushed through and the problem's still there.

What about Sinta Silver? A lot of use use that on the forum here as it's the VAG oil for G60s and VR6s (and probably valvers but I'm not sure)
-
Well that was an uncharacteristically easily solved Corrado problem! Cheap too!

I had a road speed related vibration and it turned out that my driver's side diff support bearing had lunched itself. New gearbox time. Your two problems just might be different things though. The 80mph problem could be as simple as a wheel being out of balance. I'd check for knocking on full lock at low speed - a sure sign of an outer CV on the way out. General slop in the drivetrain can also be inner CVs. General clonks over bumps could be ball joints or anything with a rubber bush (drop links, wishbone, ARB bush etc) Probably best to get the car on a ramp and have a good poke about.

I'd add that from a corrossion resistance point of view - I cleaned up the body and thread around where I was working on mine the other day and the surface cleaned up perfectly after a couple of winter's worth of salt. A quick spray with WD40 and a wipe with a rag and you could see your face in them! Thanks for the cutting advice Kev - all I've got to do now is find that most precious of commodities - time!
-
Glad it's all sorted now. At least you shouldn't have to do it again whilst you own the car
-
Thanks all. Kev - How did you cut the old platform off? I've got an angle grinder and a good hacksaw but I don't want the risk damaging the fine threads on the damper body?

Good to see another C rescued from the brink and given another lease of life!

Thanks mate - that's very generous. I'll drop you a line today :notworthy:

I colour coded my cat the car - there's devotion! :cat:  2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00589.JPG[/attachment:3pm0w00r] DSC00592.JPG[/attachment:3pm0w00r] -
Thanks for that Kev - I guess I'll have to whip it off then. Given that you can't relieve the spring pressure on the perch - how do you get the spring off? Remove the top spring mount and hope you don't end up with a spring embedded in your forehead?

I always found my Highpsorts a bit bouncy to be honest. Especially at the back

She's a beaut!

After many hours of toil the stereo's in! Sub box in first of all. Ended up using a long self tapper and going into a hole I drilled via one of those spring-steel clips you always get with speakers: Sub all in nice (plus gratuitous shot of Dad's Alfa): A spot of door dismantling: One door done (4 layers beneath the crash bar) And finally all done with loads of boot space and spare wheel access: It sounds great although I need to play with the M500's different settings to get the best from the sub I think. It sounds great though. "Forever I May Roam" by Metallica sounds particularly lively! The stereo won't remember any of my settings though once I remove the key from the ignition. It's OK if you turn the stereo on and off whilst keeping the key in the ignition but when you take the key out and then but it back in a fire up the stereo again it goes back to jhey demo mode and forgets all my settings   -
That's some lovely porting - better than the Shabba "Stage 4" on my old G60 :gag:

You can reach up and get to the back of the hu by removing the oddments tray beneath the glove box too

It just looks so awkward :gag: :pale:

The new Volvo C30, I mean, VW Scirocco is not a coup

Andy from Trimwizard might do that area - his contact details are in the recommended fitters thread

I had a Newman cam which I was pleased with on my G - G Werks set it up for me with a Schrick map and it worked a treat. You could always get Newman to grind you a Scrick profiled cam. You pay a lot of money for the brand with Schrick - it's only a lump of machined metal after all

I think that's always the way with AV stuff - it just doesn't cut the Colemans when it comes to audio performance. I've got my trusty Alpine CDA 7873R. It was one of the few Alpine hu's ages ago to come with BBE which makes a huge improvement to the sound. The door cards are very padded indeed which I think makes the car quieter. There's foam over pretty much the whole back of the door card. I remember my G60 ones were nowhere nearly as nicely made as the hide ones. That was a much rattlier car than the VR though.

I've done a few pics of my install as progress is being made. I have to say I think the more you deaden you tend to get the law of diminishing return creeping in. Doing the doors makes an enormous difference to the sound quality but after that you end up spending loads of time and money for less and less gain. I did the 3/4s in my 200SX which made a bit of difference although that car is renouned for having extremely boomy cavities in the rear 3/4 - particularly the noise you get from spray if you drive in the rain. I deadened the panel, arch and filled it with loft insulation. I'd be interested to hear your car though when it's fully done. Knowing me I'll get bored one Sunday afternoon when the mrs is out and decide to rip out the interior and do the whole lot! I actually got my Dad to help me with my install and he got the job of doing the doors - there was loads of waxy gunk on the portion of the door skin which is below the impact bar. He scraped that off and cleaned it with white spirit :D I also sprayed a load of Waxoyl in the bottoms of the door cavities as dampness seems to just sit in there even if your drain slots are clear.

I think my main complaint would be that the edead looks like re-braded Marley tape (which costs peanuts) whereas the Dynamat products seem like they're specifically designed for the job so I don't mind paying more. I was thining of doing my boot actually - do you need different tackle for that then? Luxury Liner Pro conjoures up images of deep pile wool :D
-
Well I bought 30 ft of the edead and I have to say it's extremely easy to work with. Much easier to cut than Dynamat Xtreme and probably easier to work with. Less finger slicing too at the metal backing is thinner and not as sharp. However the actual sheet is about half the thickness of Xtreme so you need to buy twice as much and spend twice as much time applying a given thickness than if you used Xtreme. Personally I think it's a bit of a false economy - it would have been quicker and the same price to use Xtreme. It's not the end of the world though - the product is good quality - just thin!
