  1. The road through Glencoe. Shame I was in a Focus hire car :(
  2. What he said! I'd wait 6 months, save a bit and buy a more expensive car to begin with. I wouldn't buy a 15 year old car and expect trouble free running whether it's a valver, G60 or VR. They are "sports cars" so get "driven" 8)
  3. I might be sticking my neck out here but if you're only ever going to use head unit power (so not use an external dedicated amp) I'd stick to the OE wiring. I doubt you'd find an audible difference using better wire. Wire does degrade and go off but remember speaker wire is all internal to the car and tucked away from damp and heat so it should be in good condition. I'd definitely go for a simple 5.25 component set up though. The crossover is simply the box which splits the feed between the mids (the 5.25 inch speakers) and highs (tweeters)
  4. I'd be interested in what gains you get from a 288 set up over a 280? Obviously there's the mechanical advantage of 8mm but that doesn't seem much in the grand scheme of things. Are the calipers better in the 288 set up?
  5. Will the amp be OK in terms of cooling?
  6. Cheers, it's been in about 3 cars now - certainly the amps anyway. I might end up with them on the seat back again I reckon. I'll still have loads of boot space and it should look quite choice
  7. Grey seems quite rare I gather 8) It's time to kit the VR out in all of the stereo gear I've got: Alpine CDA 7873R Alpine MRD-M500 mono amp Alpine MRV-T420 stereo amp Genesis 6.5 inch Audiophile components I bought some Audioscape pods and a sub enclosure from Cheesewire (thanks again Kev) 8) I also had to buy a new sub which came in the form of a new Diamond Audio D310D2 (A big :notworthy: to Huets): It was only £130 but looks to be fantastic quality and the magnets are huge! It rests really nicely in the box too and is even slightly recessed: Saturday is the day when I'll really go to town on the install and sound deaden the doors, run the cables and do something about the amps. I'm not sure about where to put the amps. I had them on the back of the rear seats last time in the G60 but I'd really like to be able to through-load with the seats down on this install. I was thinking of making a rack for the right side of the boot opposite the sub. Any input gratefully received!
  8. You should sticky this thread of all VR-based temperatureness  Very useful indeed :thumbleft:
  9. As fair as I’m aware – the diagnosis of a heater matrix “about to fail” is impossible. They just go unexpectedly. Mine went after a coolant flush and bleed – must have been the last straw. When it was replaced it transpired it wasn’t on it’s original one either so it’s now on its third one (K reg with 125K). However, I’m sure there are older cars than mine on the original one. It’s a weak point on VRs in particular and I don’t think you can buy an uprated one. It is a dash out job to do it properly though. Parts are about £120 plus the G12+ and labour is pretty much a full day. You’re looking at ca £600. Mine still smells of coolant when the heater’s on although that’s just the old leaked fluid which still smells a bit – the smell’s getting less and less all the time though. You can bypass the matrix though if you make up a U tube arrangement which you connect to the feed and return which runs through the bulkhead (middle of the bulkhead in the engine bay at the top). If you think it’s going to go it might be worth making a tube up so you get always get yourself home with a bit of a botch job. Depends on how mechanically minded you are though.
  10. I can't recommend Andy enough. Only today he fitted a Cobra cat 1 to my VR6. His attention to detail and professionalism are worthy of praise! He ripped out all the pikey **** that had been put in the car previously and did a really tidy job on the fresh install. What was really nice.. was that we found some burnt out wiring that he inspected and made safe before going any further with the fit. He then made sure everything was working with me before he explained how the alarm worked and then leaving. Top quality job and well worth the money. Ditto! My Cobra is ace too
  11. I have to say that although I’d never go to a dealer for actual work (£80/hr +VAT) they’re good for parts. I’m constantly ordering silly little bits of trim etc and they’re fine with it. Tunbridge Wells Motorline for the record
  12. His number's on the link in my signature below :)
  13. That's not bad actually (as long as they do a good job obviously)
  14. I guess the learning from this is that the Corrado is getting on a bit now so the brakes won
  15. Brilliant cheers - I'll buy some
  16. How did you find it? Easy to apply? Good results?
  17. LOL - handwash only at 30 degrees
  18. Ride height looks good to me too
