VR6 - Failed water pump (now fixed with old pump pics)
Neil VR6 replied to Neil VR6's topic in Engine Bay
 Love it I took a couple of pics of the old one on my phone. How about this for destruction  -
That's a bit harsh, I have dyslexia and even though my spelling could be alot worse i often make mistakes... Would you really utilise grammatical error as a reason to ignore a thread? Tom: "I fink 'is referrin to txt spk innit?" :brickwall: We all use localisms ( (yes I can't spell 'The' correctly on the fly.. generally comes out as 'teh' ) but there is no excuse for 'Text Speak' it fair winds me up! :bad-words:[/quote:26f3jtb7] Absolutely - you can tell when someone has problems with spelling and when people jst cnt be bthrd

VR6 - Failed water pump (now fixed with old pump pics)

The noice was pretty loud and sounded very scary All sorted now thanks to JMR taking the car in with no notice and work extra hours to get it fixed :notworthy: :salute: The impellor didn't have a single intact blade and the plastic disc part of the impellor was also sheard. He had to pick it all out of the engine! One of the 'best' he's seen apparently! A new recrod in pump degradation. He also replaced the tensioner which was rattly and horrible and put on a new belt as the old one was cracked and hard. Temperatures now at a rock steady 90 degrees with fresh load of G12+ He also sorted my occassional erratic idle as I had a split in the inlet trunking as the MAF sensor was confusing the ECU -
S0d the wheels and suspension - get it to Revo.... http://www.revotechnik.com/products/sof ... x?pvID=789

VR6 - Failed water pump (now fixed with old pump pics)
Neil VR6 replied to Neil VR6's topic in Engine Bay
It must have lost pressure as there wasn't much of a fizz when I opened the header to check the coolant level. What I don't want are bit of plastic impellor circulatin around the narrow galleys and creating hot spots. It 'runs' fine apart from the terrible noise which the bearing (I presume) is making. The exhaust 'tone' is normal, no misfires etc. I reckon I could do it but I just don't have the time these days :( Thanks for offer of a walk thro' though - I understand you have to undo the engine mount and cant it up slightly? -

LOL - different engines behave differently too - Corrado's especially typically seem to be a real mish-mash with no 2 the same. Have you thought about an oil cooler? They're not big bucks. -

Personally if my oil temp got to 140 I'd turn the engine off immediately but I take your point, the temps weren't high per se but they were indicative of a problem. I hope it is the water pump as that sounds like a pretty quick fix -

But you should hear the noise! I just don't want hot spots to build up in the engine as a result of insufficient water flow - the HG was only done 28K ago! I've found a few things using google which sugests it is the water pump given the leaks' location: http://forums.vwvortex.com/zerothread?id=1154344 -
I think something fairly major has gone wrong in the engine... I was on the motorway cruising at at about 80-90 and all temps were normal - water temp slap bang in the middle and oil at about 106-108. Then the water temp rose to the level it usually only goes to in heavy traffic - the notch above the mid line and the oil rose to 110-112. I'm confident that the oil temp rise was as a result of the water temp rise (factory oil cooler/warmer) So I slowed down to 60-70mph upon which time the oil usually comes down pretty quickly by around 4 degrees. This didn't happen abnd the water remained suspiciously high too. My VR is usually very predictable with its temps as I always keep and eye on them knowing the VR runs hot and is susceptible to temperature-related maladies. I reached me destination about 20 miles later and there was water leaking out out somewhere on the left side of the engine, my BMC air filter was a bit wet and the alternator was very wet indeed. It was also making a gut-wrenchingly expensive sounding rattle on tickover and whilst driving. The engine still seemed to rev and pull cleanly though. Now knowing much about the VR, I was guessing at water pump but I don't know where this is located. Also, I checked coolant level in the header tank and the coolant looked fine and hadn't gone down too much, oil levels were fine and there was no emulsion on the underside of the filler cap. I'm going to get it trailered to JMR with any luck on Monday but does anyone have any ideas as to what's wrong with it? Should I prepare myself for a large bill? :brickwall:

It's not a bad mag actually. Not as well written as Evo for sure but still worth a read

I picked up this magazine yesterday without actually realising that the VR6 guide was in it! So I read it meticulously in the bath  There was some really good techie info in it and I reckon it's a very thorough summary. I couldn't help feeling that people might get scared off buying one though as chains, tensionsers, top end rebuild, etc are all so expensive compared to the cost of buying a tidy one (quoted at £2500). Still, that's probably the same for all older cars. Shame they didn't cover the G60 though, I still love them and how quirky they are - even a little inset on one page would have been good and maybe a plug for G-Werks. If it was a forum car used in the photoshoot I apologise and don't take this the wrong way; but they could have found one with a better body. The paint looked tired and the front was covered in stone chips. I know most Corrados which are still around probably look like this and I fully buy into the 'drive it and enjoy it' camp, but I would have thought they'd look for a real minter for a magazine photo shoot given the calibre of the other cars in the mag. Maybe there aren't many mint boggo standard ones about. Good to see it still receiving critical acclaim though 14 years after the last one rolled out the factory

Rattle cans & 'touch-up' pens still available from Stealers!
Neil VR6 replied to Jay2's topic in Suppliers Forum
I bought the pen and aerosol kit too. Used to to refurb that little plate which holds the number plate lights in place which always seems to rot and get caked in crud -
Were you using non VW parts?

Image splits :luvlove: I think I'd go biscuit too

This works a treat for me too

Does anybody know how to repair a hydraulic jack?
Neil VR6 replied to aclwalker's topic in General Car Chat
Not that I've ever use a jack without an axle stand in place if I was going to lay under the car... :) -

My gut feel is that it would be prohibitively costly in terms of money and your time to repair it. In today’s throwaway society you’d probably be better off recycling it and buying another one unfortunately as it’s probably ‘maintenance free’. I’m sure Machine Mart do a decent range. I’ve found that if I haven’t used my foot pump for a while it benefits from a drop of good old ‘3in1’ to make the piston seal as it should. Maybe you could try that? -
Personally, I'm not sure you could find them cheaper anywhere else

VR6 South's Corrado History Another Addition p4
Neil VR6 replied to VR6 South's topic in Members Gallery
Very tidy indeed 8) My sill plates have a 'Corrado' embossed onto them whereas yours are plain (albeit ribbed :norty: ) Are yours original VAG? -
The KWv1's are highly recommended. Nice and comfy and great corrosion resistance.
-
ECU and fuel pump relay? (both cheap too)
-
Could well be the temp sender on the engine. About £35 to replace :)
