Just got a quote from the RAC @ £400+ And thats with discount! £220+VAT dont seem too bad...
-
Im quite lucky really reading some of these stories. Wasn't too long ago i heard of someone dying after some little punks dropping a building block off a motorway bridge  Unfortuently, as i presumed my insurance doesn't cover me for windscreens :(
-
Both cars looking superb! Are you lucky enough to own both of those? I want a mk2 as well as a corrado :(
-
Don't think my insurance will cover it as im only TPFT. Even if i could, would it still count as a claim? It's come at a really bad time as well, im absolutely skint! I was going up the city and i hardly ever go the way i did. Wrong place, wrong time i suppose. Dont think my drilled airbox helped though, think they heard me coming

Driving along on my own last night, slow down for a roundabout and here this VERY loud bang on my car. Shat myself a little then looked around to see that my windscreen had been hit. Its left a crater and crack marks about 10 inch diameter  I had gone over an underpass so obviously some little s***s below thought it'd be funny to throw rocks on the road. I went back to see if i could see anyone but they must of scarpered. Luckily the damage is at the very nearside in the bottom corner but i need to get it fixed ASAP! My mate reccomended someone and he's quoted me £220+VAT! New it wasn't gonna be cheap  Anyone else had a windscreen replaced and comment on that quote?

Very nice mate! The RXs are lovely, much more classy than the five spokes 8) Interior looks superb,is that a VW air freshner?!
-
You caught me at a good time there jim, luckily wasn't picking my nose or sumin  Bally> stop moaning and get that polish out!
-
Cheers for comments :) Yeah a miltek would be nice to finish the rear off but im skint! As for Ronals, im selling them but i've got a mate thats possibly buying them
-
I've changed the wheels again  and had some bodywork done inc the colour coding of the door handles, rear number plate surround and rear vw roundel...so heres some new pics

I've had 2 different sets of 17s on my 1.8 16v - first set were some wolfraces which seemed to be made out of lead and slowed down the car quite noticelably! Then went back to 15s and now i've got some 17" BBSs and could hardly notice any difference in acceleration. If you get a quality make wheel like BBS,OZ and Speedline etc which are designed to be light, the difference should be minimal IMO
-
I've got myself a set of those too! They're really nice wheels, always seem to get positive comments about them. I also got a pretty good deal on them too
-
Thats true about the ET so they might rub on inner edge. I personally dont think they'll make your look like a 4x4, the wheels aren't major wide like 9s or sumin Sorry, cant really help you any more
-
I'd say go for it if your car isn't too low. There the same offset as my ronals but half an inch wider so you might get away with it. If you dont mind the stretched tyre look, 195/45 tyres may be your best bet? If there cheap then dont worry about it, you can always sell em on again!

Cool, interested to hear how the head work alters things...keeps us informed
-
Ooh thet brings back memorys, thats just how mine used to look :D Looks like a gooden though! Does it go well with the schrick cams? Dont suppose you can tell what difference they make as you bought it with em
-
Saw your car at inters and was very impressed with the quality of the work gone into it. It's good to see someone do something a bit different every now and again and yours certaintly is  Not quite to my taste but does look kinda cool :D
-
Some of them do the super. I tried one in northampton and they quote 97 RON minimum which is the same as what BP quote for their Ultimate
-
That's a really useful site, cheers mate :D Anyone know if sainsbury's super unleaded would be any different to BP ultimate/shell optimax? Can make a saving of 9p a litre which cant be bad...
-
I'd be intersted in the focal components as well - 5 1/4 inch ones
-
Look good mate! Liking the red detailing too Dont let em get rusty though cos then they'll look pants  Someone must have some tips on keeping them looking shiny??
-
I'll have another inspection and will probably give the BJs a try. Cheers for the tip kev :)
-
That could be the problem with mine then too! Was there any play in your wheels cos i've tried mine and their solid as a rock but there's still clunking noises from the steering at low speeds?
-
Oh yeah, you may need push it in while your turning as well

On my 16v which i believe would be the same as yours, the pistons are on a thread and have to be screwed in. I think there must be some special tool to be had from somewhere (maybe vw?). Instead of that i made up something from a bit of steel approx 150 x 25 x 5mm (could probably use any other scrap bit of metal). I put 1 self tapping screw right near the end and another a little further in so that they would slot in the grooves on the piston. The screws will probably need to be trimmed to size so that they dont protude too far the otherside - about 4-5mm. Once youve done this you can use it like a spanner and 'slowly' screw the piston back in (clockwise). Hope you understand what im getting at but it worked for me

Looks phat daz 8) How did the refurbed wheels turn out?
