I really quite like that, both as a VR6 fan and a bike fan, mind you that engine would be lost in the Corrado engine bay! Its so neat and compact, and supercharged straight out of the box. Hmm, I wonder how much those engines go for! I bet it sounds awesome too! :)

Bouncing idle is most likely to be the ISV. Check the pipes around the ISV for blockages too. The ISV damper box is full of sponge/foam stuff which sometimes departs and lodges in the surrounding rubber pipes. It can cause exactly these symptoms. I'd clean and lube the ISV while you're at it if it hasn't been done lately too.

I don't know what that one is specifically, however having just had my dash and fusebox out, there are any number of plugs with no connectors in the fusebox area. If everything works ok, don't stress. :)
-
Interesting, you can buy new plugs for MAFs, I did last year, they come with short (6 inch ish) flying leads which need to be joined to the existing loom. The wierd thing is that yours is just popping off, it implies a seating problem or a spring clip problem (the spring clip that retains the plug). Check the position of the water seal, check it hasn't slipped and now interfering with the fit of the plug. Also maybe a bit of lubricant (wd40, gt85 or similar) may ease the spring clip if its sticking.

you need 6 cylinders for that!. . . Without major work, just make sure oil and filter are good, air filter, plugs etc in good order.

I haven't yet, just sprayed it all with GT85 (cycle type spray) at the mo. It was mainly the cleaning off of the old white grease that helped I think. Got in there with a toothbrush and cleaned the cogs. All I can say is don't use white grease, it goes off way to hard and sticky for flimsy plastic parts!

We need pics chap, the arb shouldn't be any closer than it was before....unless you have the wishbone on the wrong side.

Cheers mate. I've pulled mine apart and got it working better, it wasn't out of sync but it was full of gungey grease etc. Now all cleaned and lubed it seems fine. I now realise my control for that flap is goosed!

Yes! :) 150k miles, rain, shine, snow mud etc, etc. Its a car, not an ornament

Fair play for getting stuck in there Kev, I like the idea of tightening things up in this way. Older cars with steering 'boxes' had what I assume to be a similar adjuster. You could take all the slack out of things by turning a screw. My old Series 1 RX7 had one and it always felt amazing afterwards.

Awful news ;-) Bad luck mate. As others have said, you're ok, it could be worse. Not much consolation I'm sure.

Are they literally just different bulbs or are they are kit of hid parts that have been wired in? There's no way bulbs in their own right should do that! Sounds like you lost all electrical supply somewhere.

It didn't bring me out in a sweat. I fitted 100% genuine VW parts throughout my whole suspension revamp, as I invariably do. Sorry if you don't like other people having opinions, but I find £4 for a nut excessive (not in the £1200 cost of my front end revamp, but yes, for a nut it occurred to me that it was quite pricey!) We all know that VW prices are made up, no one is doubting the quality. If I'm not mistaken the original poster was asking for opinions on bolts, if you really believe that Febi bolts are not good enough on a stock VR6 (not one with 350 plus turbo horses) then, in my opinion, you have lost touch. Febi are not renowned for making crap. Its a bolt, it meets a spec. Funnily enough, the last VR6 head job I did, I used a Victor Reinz gasket, from GSF. Because I didn't see the point in paying VW 4 times as much for the same item. Oh and INA lifters for the same reason. There was a factor of three difference in GSF prices versus VW.
-
I'm sure you won't have a problem. In all seriousness how different can they be to VW ones. The thing with VW parts is that the cost has no reflection on the true value of the part. Its completely made up, taking into account cost of storage, demand etc. I recently paid £4 each for 2 M12 nuts on my front suspension, truly ridiculous!
-
Shocking isn't it! I remember those prices, personally I'd probably go for the febi ones, febi stuff is normally pretty good.
-
I do hope so, I see on Vagcat the flaps and cogs do have VW part nos. Just down to availability I guess.
-
They have been greased with something (white grease) previously. I'll try and dismantle it further and get the flap out and clean everything and regrease. It really is an awful design! A cable operating a plastic lever, driving a plastic cog that drives another plastic cog with a stiff flap attached....genius! And to think I thought the sunroof was the worst feature of the car!
-
I've got the whole thing on the bench, box and controls, one flap is really stiff, probably need a new box?
-
All cables are operating fine, its the flaps and cogs that are stiff. Ridiculously stiff.
-
I'll second that. In turn means in turn! On a similar theme, people who move into your lane (usually when its raining) and half the nice safe stopping distance you were allowing. Grrr
-
I've got the dash out at the mo, removed the matrix this morning, I'm now in the process of trying to improve my heater controls. The controls are fine and operating the cables as they should do however one of the flaps on the heater box is so bl00dy hard i.e. stiff to operate the cables/controls haven't got a chance. I can only just move them with my big spanner hands. Does anyone have a solution to this, the whole arrangement with three cogs seems disatrous to me and way to flimsy.

At least it was probiotic, they had some regard for their own health, even if not for yours!

Anything in Vag Com?

Don't know what model you have mate, however on a VR, for the front you simply undo the nut on top of the mount, not the several nuts holding the mount to the front crossmember. The rear is similar but you have an extra nut holding a small metal shield on before you can see the main mount nut. I removed said nuts and then jacked the engine carefully from below with a block of wood.

Totally agree. I'm glad someone brought this up! Near me there is a stretch of the M27 (busy) that has been widened to 4 lanes recently from the usual 3. Every morning there is absolute chaos because everyone dithers and queues in the third lane and only a few people use the 4th lane to make progress. Then the people in the third lane won't let anyone in because they've had to queue for 5 minutes, big deal. I used to be one of the 'get in early' brigade because people are so selfish about merging in turn, however one morning I followed a police traffic car in the 4th lane and they drove to the end of the lane, adjusted speed, indicated and dropped in, everyone else followed and it all worked like clockwork. I now always do that (where possible) and things work so much better. I still get flashed by the odd oblivious driver who tries unsucessfully to run me out of road (not likely in the VR  ), but I know I'm a considerate driver, its them that has issues. The 4th lane section is on a hill and is there purely to make progress and for people not to be hindered by slow lorries, junctions and people queueing.... Its an extra lane, USE IT!! :D Having just come back from mainland Europe, I can't believe how well this system works there. Merge in turn, what's so difficult. If people used appropriate speed and consideration it would work so well....perhaps that's the problem.
