Motorbike owners nr P'boro - speed limit protest ride Jun 6
andy replied to dukest's topic in General Car Chat
Nice generalisation. I regularly follow bikers that are happy to sit with the traffic. Not all two-wheeled pilots have a death wish; some are just looking to get to work, etc. Personally, I ride a bike because they're way more exciting than cars. Part of that is the ability to make progress in traffic. I'm not daft enough to be 'up the arse' of the car in front though. There's really no need when you're on something that accelerates like even an averagely powerful bike does. 100 per cent agree. There are some idiots for sure, that's not a bike only thing though, there are plenty of idiot car drivers too. -
I seriously wonder if half the people on this forum are driving round with dodgy cam sensors or big heavy wheels blunting the acceleration.

So the flagship VW model, (the fastest VW made up to that point and for several years afterwards), The Corrado VR6, is quoted on a forum for enthusiasts of that very car as having "very underwhelming" performance. Agree with Peppyuk, not one person who's ever got out of my almost standard VR6 engined car has said "how very underwhelming". More like, "will you sell it to me, damn thats quick". My other half had a turboed TT and it took just one drive in my VR for her to sell the TT and buy her own Corrado VR6. I've had mine for 6 years, 60k miles and have never felt remotely underwhelmed.

Absolute horse sch1tt. No need to say any more. :D

I find it very difficult to find information in the Bentley book, it's all in there but difficult to find.
-
No its definately not normal, you shouldn't notice any difference. Something else has been disturbed or developed a fault.
-
Yes its fairly simple but there are two types, depending on whether you have a plastic or metal cam cover.

Good skills, such dedication! I'd better start learning too ready for when the rado starts to rot!

ABS Pedal distance sensor now obsolete... Grrrrrrr

Yeah, its called a monostable, easy peasy job for anyone with an interest in basic electronics. I'll make as many as people want, say £100 each :) -
They are cool little cars, a very good all round package I think. However, the fact that the turning circle is vastly different left to right, I find just ridiculous. You have to make sure you're approaching a parking space from the correct side or you'll need a nine-point turn to get in. Oh, and they are definately not at the same pace as a VR6 Corrado on the open road. :) You do get sensible ride quality though, which is something that seems to escape the Corrado.

It's really not too bad, I did the new test last August. The good thing is that the most common failure on the old test was the turn in the road, at least with the new test you get that out of the way in the first test (in a test area that has no camber, traffic and is slightly wider than most roads), which is only about 10 mins long and actually very cheap! Leaving the 2nd test just a nice ride out with very little manoeuvring to worry about. The new test has had an awful lot of bad press, I think the slow manoeuvring aspect actually makes for a better rider in traffic. Anyway, some very nice rides you have had there, particularly like the polo :)

How tall are you Kris, the Hornet is not good for tall people. I like them, and they were a contender for my first bike, however upon sitting on one I realised I was way to big (6ft2). I bought a Bandit 600 instead, a great first bike and all rounder.

I'd change them all, its a false economy not to.

Sounds like you might have the wrong spring top plates, there are two types, lots of aftermarket suspension requires a different top plate. This could quite possible cause the prob you have. Or are the ultra gts coilovers, can't remember?
-
I fairly sure they are not the same, the motors are ok to swap on a late model rado but from memory the mech is a different shape.
-
The tie rods are the rods that effect the steering inputs upon the hub. The rods that come from the steering rack and attach to the hub assembly using a kind of ball joint. A knackered one will give a feeling of looseness about the steering in general.

Fuses? Yep - 3amp fuse on the earth wire... This is why I bang on about always buying new switches rather than second hand, late switches last about 5 years max. Mine is still on the 16 year old original, I have repaired it at least 10 times though. I'm quite confident of the fuses doing their job if necessary.

Fuses?

Very bad news fella, gutted for you.
-
Not into additives really, have you changed the oil?

I used to love BKs, until I got a 'proper' bout of food poisoning from one, in a service station late at night. One guy serving, hanging around, looking like he'd rather be anywhere else. I couldn't eat solids for four days. I have to be in a right corner now to venture in one.

How to: Open a stuck door
andy replied to OllieVR6's topic in [Archive] Wiki Submissions & Collaboration
Great work, can you do one for an Audi A4 (1995) rear door now please! That's one of my jobs for the weekend  -
Irwins are amazing.

Yes don't get a low temp thermostat, VW designed the VR6 to run at the temp set by a standard thermostat. If your engine is standard in other respects, don't bother. Your temperatures don't sound massively high, a bit maybe but not drastically so. Mine sits at 100 plus on the motorway, approaches 110 in traffic and 90 ish if just pootling around. You need to sort out the leak though, that has to be the priority!
