Whats the best MPG anyones had out of a Corrado?
andy replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in General Car Chat
39 for me in my VR. Got 37 on a 200 mile trip recently, mostly cruising at 80, with the occasional blast up to .....a bit faster. Very good for a 135k mile 2.9 I think. -
Yep, you too Andy. :) I think we'll try a 2nd hand one first as they're still a lot cheaper apparently. I'll see what the availability is and be in touch if we decide on a new/recon one instead. Its going to be such fun swapping a rack by the sound of it......
-
Thanks, exactly what I was after :)
-
OK, I 've looked in the Bentley book and there's little help. How easy is it to get the rack out on a VR6? What else needs to be removed, I'm imagining the rear subframe will have to come out? Can anyone that's done it shed any light on the rough procedure please?
-
Thanks for that, I like the sound of £40 ish a lot!
-
Well its bizarre to me because I've never had or heard of another car with that problem. I see what your saying though.A new or recon rack is megabucks isn't it?
-
Just to clarify, its not pulling to the left, its just heavier to turm the steering wheel to the right than the left. Bizarre.
-
I've dropped the front tyre pressures now, they were nearly 40 psi, knocked them back to 35. They were the same pressure left and right and they seem to be the same make with approx same ammount of wear overall. Its just occurred to me that maybe its been driven for some time with the suspension out, maybe that's worn the tyres unevenly . Will get them off and check later.

My g/f has just got hold of a VR6. It was quite heavy to steer right on the way home after buying it. I got it 4 wheel laser alligned today, totally back in spec and much better but its still heavier to turn right than left. Any ideas on this?

Mine is quite noisy I think, if your talking about rattles and things, I'm not impressed by the ride quality (Konis and H&Rs) and the general rattling and crashing does my head in! Awful roads round here mind.

The owners mate has a 911 GT3 RS, they've had a play against each other, the 911 provided no worries for the GTR, all this whilst he was still 'running the GTR in' ie not using max revs/load. I can't believe they're £30k elsewhere, total bargain.
-
No, he does have an Audi S8 4.2 V8 as a daily driver though....... I thought that was good until last night!
-
Yes, he's a colleague, he's been waiting 18 months for it, he's erm rather keen on his cars shall we say. :D They'll be more rides to come...
-
Those are 380 mm brakes, all round...... I believe 6 pots at the front and 4 pots at the rear. Believe me they stop the car with unbelievable effect, totally out of the seat! Just to put that in perspective those brake discs are roughly the same diameter as a VR6 speedline alloy wheel.

I was lucky enough to co-pilot one of these round the 'quiet' Dorset country lanes last night, oh my god, what a car! 3.8 V6 twin turbo, 500 bhp :D Absolutely instantaneous gearchanges, the most unbelievable chassis, ride quality that would put some 'comfy' cars to shame and grip levels that actually make parts of your body hurt after a while. Awesome car with an awesome driver, he describes it as 'weapons grade' and I think that just about sums it up! I can't imagine there is another car out there that can compete on real roads. Brutal!

Don't trust the MFA in the first instance. There is only one accurate way to measure MPG, distance travelled over fuel used. Fill the car up with fuel, reset the odometer or note the mileage, drive as normal. At some point thereafter, preferably at the end of the tank of fuel (better averaging), fill the car up again and divide your distance travelled by the fuel added. Only then will you know if the MFA is working accurately.

No chance, my standard VR with lowered compression (so gutless!) pisses all over a fiesta ST! Not through town perhaps as they will have a revvier engine and shorter gears, but where it counts a VR is definitely quicker. A VR6 with 40 BHp more and 40 ish lbft torque advantage isn't really going to be bothered by a 150 bhp Fiesta is it. A stock VR6 is also well over a second quicker to 60, I wouldn't call that anything like evenly matched.
-
Thanks Timbo, all seems in order then!

It was revving at 5k at 120mph. Thinking about it, to achieve another 25mph with another 1000-1800? rpm to go in 5th is perfectly reasonable. It just seemed a bit err noisy and uncivilised, perhaps thats my BMC Cda and Magnex... It got there very quickly and was still pulling like a train, it just didn't seem as relaxed as I was expecting! I think I may be getting too used to my 09 Octavia 140 TDi Hire car.
-
What engine speed should be seen in a standard VR6 at 120mph? I may have nudged this speed on a private stretch of road recently and was suprised how hard the engine was revving, it didn't seem like it would have had the remaining revs left to get to 145 ish?

Its simply not worth it, its a lot of hassle to replace it again if it doesn't seal properly. 200 psi ish on the cylinders, water at collosal pressure.

Selling a Corrado with classic stalling/idle problems
andy replied to norman16v's topic in General Car Chat
The thing is......a problem like your which goes away completely sometimes is highly likely to be an electrical problem. Something like an air leak would be there more or less most of the time. Hopefully your connector waggling has cured it! -

It simply depends on the buyer, if yours was a very tidy car in other respects and had what most people would see as a minor running issue I would be in there like a shot at the right price. -
Supercar experience.. and bumping into forum members!

That sounds really cool, roughly what kind of price is it Jim? -
I've used Zymol Cleaner wax for a few years, I thinks its very good too. It may not be the ultimate if you're into showing etc, but its well above average, nicely priced, lasts ages and best of all smells lush!
