How did you clean them?
-
If its only an intermittant starting problem, its pretty unlikely to be a "walk away from it now" type problem. You'd obviously need to see and hear it running anyway otherwise there could be all manner of other "serious" problems.....
-
Just check the obvious things, sparking at the plug and fuel arriving from the tank. Ditto what Mawrick said about the engine speed sensor, ignore it for the time being. Once you've confirmed ignition and fuel, maybe try a compression test.
-
Its a while ago I had mine apart but I seem to remember that you need to check allignment on more than the cams and the crank pulley. I have some recollection that you can have the cams and crank alligned correctly but not the intermediate pulley. This would put your valve timing out, which I think your symptoms have a whiff of. Have you checked the intermediate pulley?
-
Definately normal, would do that on any car if its up to temp.
-
It does sound like they have only checked the tracking, not the camber.

Right..... Had a look here, brilliant guide with photos http://www.corrado-club.ca/forum/viewto ... dow+roller this is the exact problem I have, it would seem mine are so far gone that the plastic part is no longer present, just the metal inards! Cheap and easy fix it would seem. Thanks all

It looks like a metal bearing/wheel that runs in the channel that attaches to the bottom of the glass itself. This bearing/wheel is riveted (possibly) to the actuator arm but is loose as hell. The front one is ok. I can't see any plastic bits to be honest, anyone got Etka?
-
I've had a rattle in my passenger door for a while, I took off the door card and membrane yesterday and have found the problem but I don't know what my options are for rectifying it! The rear 'arm' that actuates the glass has a loose part, specifically the 'bearing' that sits in the channel is loose on the arm. The bearing isn't particularly loose in the channel but it is loose on the arm. Is this removable/replaceable? Any help much appreciated.

The fact that it is on when you turn the ignition on is correct, and when the engine is running. The fact that it is noisy is not so good, is the cooling system full up. ie is the pump actually pumping water/coolant? How noisy are we talking, they do purr a bit in normal situations!

It should be 2 full turns from hardest to softest, and yes it does make a fair degree of difference to ride quality and handling between the two extremes.

Don't do the washers and sealant thing! That really is an awful solution, I feel your pain though, I have changed 8 or 9 now over several VWs, its not easy and you never quite know what you're fitting tilll you've bought it and fitted it by which time it needs to work! my two penneth

That would have been me, Storm Grey though :)

If you change the title to mention the fact its a VR6, you might get more viewings :)

i fitted andys moon roof to mine and its fits perfect !! :D :D but i think its because i have the roof cassett from a passatt and not using a std corrado one unless you can fit some kind of rubber seal i would not use the spacers you will get wet !! Glad to hear it fits good on yours. My problem wasn't the outer panel, more the inner panel collecting water because it had no method of draining water into the drainage channels of the mechanism. I got fed up with cold showers the first time I put the brakes on every day! I've taken some pictures and will be starting a thread on this soon, "things to look out for when selecting a passat moonroof mechaism!" I've seen _Andy_'s set up and its fine, I guess I got a mechanism from the wrong type of Passat.
-
I would definately not do that mate, you need a half decent seal between the roof and the sunroof mech, you'll get damp and draughts galore with an air gap there. Can't help with your main problem though, I've just removed my moonroof after a couple of years because it never fitted properly!

Does that include when she is wasting you in your Octavia???

I put the Bosch plugs back in. It would appear to have been an intermittant HT lead seating problem. They all felt good when they went on the first time, its never easy though is it, down that long deep hole! Seems to run as normal now, pulls like a b4st4rd and still managed 34mpg on the 30 mile trip to work this morning. They seem fine to be honest. I'll see how long they last.... The initial running problem, caused me to look on here about the plugs, peoples comments about them started alarm bells ringing even though I don't believe Bosch of all companies would specify a plug that wasn't suitable. Anyway, next job, clean the BMC CDA .......I think I've done about 35k miles on mine without cleaning, wish me luck! I'm hoping that will perk it up even more!
-
I've now taken the plugs out and double checked everything, reseated the leads VERY carefully and guess what,.... It runs like a peach again. :D I'll see how they are in the long run.... Whoever said they saw a huge difference going from 18 month old Bosch plugs to brand new 'other' plugs, I have to say I'm not in the least bit surprised! As for you Mr Millerman! :) VW certainly didn't spend millions of pounds designing any engine to run with any particular make of plug! Thats a little bit like saying Panasonic TV remote controls are designed to run on duracell batteries :D Thanks for the comments :)
-
Yes indeedy.
-
Well, they were sold to me as the PROPER ones! Bosch aren't renowned for manufacturing rubbish, far from it. The funny thing is that it was running near perfect on 20k mile old NGKs that were oily and one had half the insulator missing. Looks like they'll be coming out before I head home from work.
-
No they're fine Jim, only popped the leads out a couple of notches on the guides. I just don't know from what people are saying if those plugs are bad enough to behave that badly on a cold engine or if they just mean they don't last long etc?
-
Well almost! I've just changed the plugs on my VR6, GSF supplied Bosch Super, 4 electrode type FGR8KQE. The car starts and runs but its not happy at all. It is reluctant to respond and is generally rough, even the exhaust is 'chugging' a bit. I'm fairly sure its not a misfire. It doesn't want to rev past 3.5/4k. Having now looked at old posts on here I see that Bosch Supers are not exactly recommended. Are they so bad that the car would run that badly or is it likely my problem lies else where.

Whats the best MPG anyones had out of a Corrado?
andy replied to Pat_McCrotch's topic in General Car Chat
Slightly different but I've just got 438 miles out of a tank on my VR, thats a personal record. :) -
Cheers Bud, this is what I like about owning a Corrado!
