No they are different between early and late, I found that out the hard way. You can't physically fit a late motor on an early roof. Plus the later motors have six wire connectors versus the early 3 wire type. I guess you may be able to swap between the two if you chopped and changed the wiring yourself. I don't know why the later motor needs 6 wires, unless three of them are looped off to something else?

I take it yours is an early rado then....aaargh

Quality, thanks very much. :-)

Quality, I might try that, £25 is soooo much cheaper than a rado roof. So its a perfect fit now is it?

Its bizarre this, they're all like it I know, why would a car with only two windows need a window control unit and even then only be able to operate one at a time? My old Golf used to close all four windows and the sunroof at the same time on full closure, looked dead impressive. Whats wrong with a motor and a switch in each door...

I would be immensely grateful if anyone could help me out with a part no. Its a small plastic thing that goes onto the actual door lock mechanism inside the drivers door. It attaches to the rod that operates the door button and the rod that goes down to the central locking actuator. The part no has been obscured by some monkey drilling holes and bodging it. It ends in 837 084 It explains my lack of central lockage, the rods were not even attached to it! Here's a photo.

It's the name that puts me off, flash....I've got images of abrasive white powder. Sounds v good, think I'd miss the smell of Zymol though!

Unfortunately I'm down in Hampshire mate...not too local! Its hopefully getting replaced next week, I phoned them up this week as its been two weeks since hearing anything and they are STILL waiting on some parts....new scuttle panel I presume.

There's a pointed arrow on one of the camshaft pulleys, you look through a hole in the pulley and line it up with a mark on the head. You set the camshafts relative to each other ideally by using a tool (but any bit of sheet metal will do) in the opposite end of the camshafts, there's an offset notch which is set horizontally and the tool locks the camshafts together. The crankshaft can either be set by the marks on the flywheel or by the tiny notch on the pulley at the other end, lined up with the mark on the block. There is more to setting the timing than this, but that's where the marks are. Have a look at the How-To by 2cc too.

Does it run alright once it has started? Do you know anyone with Vag-Com so you can test the diagnostics?

Glad to hear it JBOB! Ref the clips I honestly don't know mate, I'd be pretty surprised if you cant swap it over from your old one though. Someones bound to know. White grease is whats recomended by the way, I've used normal grease before with no problems but I can well imagine white grease doing a better job and lasting longer. :-)

Well after some investigation, I have two Corrados (ones for sale) and neither of them will operate the central locking from the passenger door! The plot thickens. Its not something I've ever wanted to do I must admit. I guess its a drivers handle off job.

Other jobs worth doing while replacing valve stems on vr6?
andy replied to DaveVR6's topic in Engine Bay
When I had my Golf VR6 head skimmed, he only took off 3 thou and he told me that he had also skimmed 3 thou off of each of the valves to compensate. Head looked like new afterwards and ran beautifully. I did a further 20k of grilling it on country lanes with no issues. I supopose 3 thou isn't much though. -
I know that mate, it was sold to me as working, I've had it working. You were talking about refunds earlier thats all, I'm just saying that its obvious your 7 VW mechanic mates won't have helped matters by the sounds of it. Funnily enough it came from your town, Huddersfield. I wish I'd never seen the thing!

That's because the motor is out of sync with the roof, the roof has to be in a specific position (exactly) and the motor needs to be operated so that it is in exactly the same position before its attached to the roof. Without doing it properly the roof could be at full tilt but the motor might think it's at half slide. The motor has limit switching and needs to be set correctly to match the physical limits of the roof itself. For anyone reading, I am the seller of said roof. I've fitted several and know how finecky they are to get right. If you don't get the left and right guide plates perfectly alligned before the motor goes back in, then the roof will bind. JBOB, I do have the bentley manual but have no means of scanning it, I'll see if the detail is the same on the Bentley CD I have somewhere and email it to you if possible. I know this roof worked before I sent it, I wish you the best of luck fitting it but (and in the nicest possible way) I'm not responsible if your mechanic friends don't know the fitting procedure and have forced it etc. The stories of pushing and loud clunks make me twitchy I'm afraid. I genuinely hope it works out.

Seems mad to me that they made most grills with only one slat open, big hot engine....small space...etc
-
Indeed I have two non storms with only the bottom slat open.

I'll second that Will. Recently did my chains/tappets/clutch etc, I shat myself when I heard the noise the tappets made, I was worried to run it but the noise went away after running it for 10 mins or so. It takes them a while to fill up and settle. Mine is now the quietest VR6 I've ever heard. :-)

Mine took 3 or 4 hours for the guy to completely f*ck up, that reminds me, its been over a week since they promised to completely re-do the whole job. No word as yet....t*ssers.

That is dreadful mate. I thought my experience with Autoglass last week was bad....read it here > http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?t=29520

Can't find this part in my Bently Manual - photos included!
andy replied to martyjmcfly's topic in Engine Bay
Its a valve/breather, often breaks like your one, VW will try and sell you the whole rubber intake system for £70 ish, they don't sell the valve anymore, best bet is to get one from a scrappy/broken car or get one from Ford as explained here. http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... eather+vr6 -
No way does it hit 60 in 4.5 secs.

There's a possible group buy going on on VR6OC.COM, £200 a pair delivered from U.S, seems astonishing value if they're any good. http://www.vr6oc.com/e107_plugins/forum ... hp?77339.0
