  1. Did you know its one of only two words in the English Language containing all 5 vowels in the right order. Anyone know the other one?
  2. As I said, a lot of ignorant people. Most people I find who slate the DM are those that don't read it. Ostrich syndrome ;-) Nuff said. What issue said about the Weetabix, I think I may have missed that one?
  3. They moved onto a school field near me, the kids can't use their own school field. Police wouldn't move them on. Eventually they were moved on by the council and police, they left the school field in a right mess with piles of HUMAN and DOG excrement everywhere. Now thats just wrong. Where did they go? The next school field down the road... I saw them moving in their £50k land rovers and £50k+ mobile homes, surely they can afford a toilet?????????? There's nothing wrong with the Daily Mail anyway, just because they say things as they are. There's a few too many ignorant people in this country who live well away from some of the problems highlighted by the likes of the Daily Mail.
  4. Henny, surely a compression test will still read low if the valve timing is out though.
  5. I'm about to start my new project, a 96P VR6, with timing chain slippage, bought for a song.... If the chain has just slipped a tooth, could I in theory reset the timing chain and simply replace the tensioner and guide parts? Is it just the upper chain tensioner parts that wear significantly or is the lower tensioner just as much of a problem?
  6. You should have two feeds to the stereo, one permanent live and one switched live (ignition). If you have connected the permanent live to the stereo rather than the switched one you will get the symptoms you describe. The permanent live is simply for the memory in the stereo (ie presets etc). If you are losing presets than you have probably got the two wires reversed. They are normally the red wire and the yellow wire. VW is a bit arse about face on this issue.
  7. My Corrado has over 100k on the clock, no chain rattles at all, not thinking of doing it yet. 85k is nothing in my opinion.
  8. When I had my old Golf VR6 done, I left it with the Garage for an hour, they were going to ring me when finished. After 2 hours I phoned them and they had shut my keys in the car. 26 miles later I have a spare set with them, upon getting the car home I found gouges and deep (shiny) scratches on all four doors and the internal door frame with flakes of fresh paint in the rubber seals. Not a happy man. Took the car back and they accepted total liability and paid for the repair. One of their junior monkeys had decided he knew how to get in after they shut the keys in, but they didn't tell me in case I didn't notice!! I had a courtesy car for three days whilst it was in the bodyshop.
  9. Theres also a silver Octavia vRS around the Southampton area, **05AHD
  10. Unless I'm mistaken, speed was not mentioned, I would hardly call a quick blast on an open dual carraigeway a problem. If anything it is exactly the place for it, definately not in a built up area or single lane road where overtaking comes into the equation. I really wonder why some people own a sports coupe if they're going to drive it like a supermini. As for the comments about young people and their liking for alcoholic refreshments causing them to drive irresponsibly, I think not. Alcohol related incidents are less of a problem for the younger generation of driver who has grown up with massive drink driving awareness. It's a well known fact that the older people who still think the drink driving rules are the same as they were when they passed their test 30 or 40 years ago are responsible for the majority of alcohol related driving problems. I would not condone a rash decision from anyone, especially from someone behind the wheel of a car.
  11. From VW dealerships. Have a search on here mate, its been discussed lots!
  12. Does a knackered cat mean a more restrictive cat? I'm not convinced thats your problem, half a litre of oil surely can't knacker a cat. I'd have thought you would need much more. The only real way to be sure is to get it on a rolling road and see if its producing the power it should be. The Golf could have been tweaked remember. I've had a Golf TDi pull away from me consistently but I suspect it was tweaked ;-)
  13. The bumpstops should always be shortened too, otherwise you'll be riding on them.
  14. What cost is that repair kit Mike?
  15. What about the 30 people killed last year by on duty police officers? ....nuff said
  16. Of course it's a doddle. It takes no skill whatsoever to drive at 159mph on a deserted motorway. Exactly the point. If I drive at 101mph on a deserted motorway it requires entirely the same lack of skill. Yet....I will be banned, then lose my job. He has lost nothing, the smug t*sser. I've known two Class 1 advanced police drivers and been in their cars on many occasions. They both demonstrated above average car control but if you think that they are immune to making mistakes you very wrong I've seen both of them get it wrong. Anyway at 84mph in a 30 limit, your own skill is not the only factor. The road safety television campaign focuses on how many more people die at 35mph than 30mph etc. For the specific reason that other peoples actions come into the equation too. You can't possibly react to the unexpected at 84 in a 30, end of story.
  17. Most people speed, I know I do. The point is I only do it in appropriate conditions, I don't do 84 in a 30 ever. However I do regularly travel in excess of the limit on de-restricted roads when the conditions are good. I am more than capable of deciding for myself when the conditions are good enough. It's very sad to see people elevate police drivers to some kind of god-like status, they're human just like the rest of us. They are not the only people capable of making a decision about appropriate speed. If any of us were clocked at 35mph in the middle of the night in a 30 limit, do you honestly think that you could get away with it. 35 in the middle of the night could well be safer than 25 in the day. (But obviously the police are the only ones capable of making that decision)
  18. Its got nothing to do with jealousy, it's got everything to do with fairness, justice and equality. You or I would be in prison if we had been caught doing 84 in a 30 and 159 in a 70 limit. Its wrong. Perhaps if the police spent a little less time and effort on penalising normal drivers I might have a little more understanding. It's a double standard and it gets my f*cking goat....big style. He's still doing the same job if you can beleive it, no fine, no suspension. Its a big green light for any police drivers to do the same. Not happy.
  19. I am so F*CKING OUTRAGED by this story, I have been following it throughout. He was doing 84 MPH in a 30 limit, if I or anyone else in the country does 34 in a 30 limit you will receive 3 points and a £60 fine if you pass a Gatso. The 84mph is apalling, how can anyone in any circumstances possibly justify it. I am gobsmacked by the pathetic attitude of some of the judges in the country. The 159mph on a 2 (not even 3) lane motorway is unacceptable too. I have less problem with the actual speed than the fact that if I do 101mph I will be banned regardless of the conditions. The penis of a judge likened the skill level of this prat to that of a concert pianist???? Clueless. Is it really any wonder that people have less respect for the police these days? How can he be cleared of speeding when he was speeding by more than 89 mph? How can he be cleared of dangerous driving, can that really be safe, if it was ok then why did his colleagues reveal what he had done..... obviously because they thought it was extremely dangerous ......aaaaaaaaagggh my head hurts
  20. Yeah it could be that, if the cable is run in sleeving. Cheers for answers, I'll have a further look! I haven't got headlight washers and it's not carbon canister tubing, looks like sleeving of some sort I suppose.
  21. Whilst fitting my new BMC CDA I removed my carbon canister and was having a bit of a clean up in that area and found some tubing running inside the inner wing (still in the engine bay) its about 5mm bore, black with a white stripe, it disappeared down between the o/s headlight and the radiator. Anyone know what it is for? Its not one of the carbon canister pipes btw!
  22. What make have you fitted Mike, did you have to drill the turrets or are does it fit on existing bolt holes?
  23. Fitted mine today, took a while, haven't finalised the cold air feed yet, but removed the carbon canister so I can get the feed down. Its not quite as quiet as I was hoping but hopefully it should pipe down a bit with the air feed on. Sounds evil at the mo!
  24. I'd definately change them, I didn't when I had the head off my old Golf and regretted the slightly noisy tappets forever afterwards. Not that expensive from GSF.
