  1. Hi All I'm using VAG-COM 409-1 and an USB lead (bought from Eshrules). All used to work and scan fine. Now I'm geting the 'Communication Error' as documented elsewhere when trying to connect to the ABS module. I've updated the driver (to one with a latency option) & changed the Latency Timer to 5 (as also suggested elsewhere on here), tried it on 2 Corrados with no joy. I've tried it on my mate's Golf and it works fine. Can anybody help please? Could it be drivers & if so can anyone point me in the direction of known working drivers so at least I can eliminate that? All help, advise & suggestions gratefully received.
  2. Guys, thanks for your help, it was the coilpack. Very grateful for the advice and info from you knowlegable fellows! Cheers
  3. Thanks for the info, is there any way to check the coilpack or is it a swap over and see job? Thanks again
  4. Hi All Was driving home today in my VR (N reg), I stopped at a roundabout and the engine died. It started up ok but there was a low "shuddering" engine noise/feel - like the exhaust was blowing combined with a misfire too. I pulled away and noticed a distinct lack of power, The shuddering noise is throughout the rev range as is the low power. I got home and checked the engine bay & exhaust but nothing obvious, the exhaust note is very low. Has anyyone experienced this or might know what's wrong? I was thinking maybe the cat or the lamda sensor - any pointers? All help very gratefully received. Thank you
  5. Hi All Whilst having a drink with my old man this evening he told me that one of the mid exhaust sections on his 16V has gone. On closer look the section is the one just in front of the rear axle and it's blowing like a good 'un, completely gone. He's phoned around the usual high street people (Kwik Fit, Setyres etc etc) & apparantly they can't supply/fit that section. He's flogging it soon so doesn't want to buy tuned parts so does any one know anyone high street or otherwise who can supply/fit that part section only? Many thanks chaps, any help greatly appreciated. Cheers Funbox
  6. Hi All Just got the dreaded call from my local garage (who uses third party for MOTs), VR6 has failed MOT on front discs pitted on the inside (fair enough) and rear axle bushes, both sides. I have a few questions that I hope some of you clever chaps might help answer: a) I've not noticed a difference in rear end handling. If the bushes were gone i'm guessing this would be noticable in handling/cornering and also maybe audible knocking too? b) I was MOT'd by the same people last year (not sure if it was the same inspector) and no wear was noted or advisory given. Bearing in mind I've only driven it 1500 miles max in the last year (due to toddler & new baby etc), could they both have worn to the point of failure over this low useage? c) Is there anything in particular about Corrado or VR6 bushes that are unusual & that might lead an MOT inspector to believe they are shot when they're not? d) If they are gone, is it a big job? How much typically does it cost to replace with original VW/good aftermarket ones? Any help you can give is really greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance .

    Seat Wobble

Hi All I've just investigated the cause of my passenger seat wobble. It seems that there is a plastic/rubber part missing at the seat travel adjustment assembly. This probably got lost when the seats where re-furb'd. According to EKTA online this is called a 'Stop buffer' part number 435881203A. Does anyone know if this is correct and if they are available and at what sort of cost? My local stealer's parts dept. is closed now until Tuesday. :x thanks in advance
  9. Hi All, I’ve had a slight whine from my (presumably) brakes occasionally at very low speeds after driving for a while. This went away when the brakes were applied, the handbrake was lifted slightly or when at normal driving speed. I asked my mechanic mate to take a look at the brakes and he said that they’d be alright for a couple of thousand miles & should think about disks/pads then. I’ve not done anything like those miles since, in fact it’s not been in much use at all recently since clutch issues. This morning after approximately 1/2hr driving, the whine became noticeable at normal driving speeds. This coincided with it starting to rain. It was still occasional, but louder than usual and still went away when the brakes or handbrake were applied lightly. I stopped and had a quick check round but nothing looked untoward. Does anyone have any ideas what may be going on? Thanks in advance
  10. Hi, the badges are stuck on with a double sided tape, I'm not sure how hard they are to remove. I woudn't have thought it was that hard as mine fell off! I put it in a 'safe' place with the intention of sticking it back on - It's not there anymore....
  11. Hi I've lost the circular badge that sticks onto the top of the gear knob, i.e. the one that shows the gear positions. Does anybody know if these are available, where, and at what cost. Many thanks in advance.
  12. All, thanks for your help. Now it's time to make a call to JMR! Cheers
  13. Did a bit more checking on the way home, the 'clutch slipping' symptoms seem to happen mostly in the higher gears particularly changing up from 4th into fifth - on the gas - the revs go up but not the power transfer. No slippage in 1st gear from standstill. No clutchy burny smell. Doesn't make sense to me? Anyone know what I'm on about :?: :!: :?: cheers FB
  14. Hi All I noticed that the clutch was slipping a bit this morning and that it's operation was near to the top of the pedal travel. I didn't notice it yesterday with just me in the car but I was carrying a full carload today, is this typical? Is there an adjustment to the pedal travel required or is it likely that the clutch is on the way out? If I do need a new one can anyone recommend which to get VAG/GSF etc and how much it's likely to cost and how much of a job it is? Also is there any associated jobs that I should carry out at the same time etc? Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks
  15. Hi all Above mentioned mag features an article on the g-lader. Also of interest - a twin engined Scirocco that was developed for the rally circuit in the '80s, 360BHP! My favourite bit however is the quote "Corrado was the last decent VW"
  16. Changed the fuel filter, all ok now. hairline crack in the original.
  17. Mistrall - Most likely me, BP Garage Seafront, original spec (except for lupo wipers, hey I have to drive 40 Miles to work) black VR6 N reg. No Leathers tho spoke about you putting in a vr6 lump in your valver - as an original affiicianado I'd say no! but that's just me 3rd C, 2 previous 16V
  18. Dudes, I remember as a kid loving Darda race sets ( we called it Darda Drom back in the day). You could make tracks that did fantastic tricks/loops/jumps etc with great friction motor cars. I've recently bought a set from the states for *cough* my son, who's 19 months old, well he loves watching me playing it anyway! I'm told that Corrados were available in Darda form. Anyone know anything about this? How much?, where? how rare etc. Bonnet de Douche
  19. Hi All, I have an ‘interesting’ (ahem) fuel leak problem on my VR6. Fuel filter was changed at last service. Since then I’ve been having this problem. If the car has been sitting unused for a week or so on starting up I get fuel p!ssing out from around the fuel filter, this stops after approx 5 minutes. The problem doesn’t reappear until the car has been sat for a few days unused again, A mechanic friend of mine has also had a look, we’ve changed the hose clips for jubilees etc but it still happens. What I don’t get is why does it only happen if the car has been left for a few days? Could there be fuel pooling somewhere over time which then gets forced up the line the next time the fuel pump switches on at start up. This fuel then finding a leak which doesn’t normally leak?!? Surely if the fuel line was split it would leak all the time? Any help much appreciated dudes.
  20. I've been after one of these too, mine wasn't too badly worn, but I was exploring getting another. Then I got rear ended whilst stationary at lights. Next time I looked at the rear, the badge was gone. So p!ssed off, I'd just had a Swissol valet too. 3rd party's insurance is paying up for the scuffs/dinks to rear and exhaust, but where the hell is the garage going to get a chrome badge from? The last one I saw on ebay went for £36, not bad but it was slightly worn. There must be someone out there who can assist? Help me Obi-Wan you're my only hope...
  21. All I can say is that if Alfa can stil sell GTVs and Spiders, Audi can sell TTs like they're going out of fashion, 2nd hand Fiat coupe 20V turbos are in demand, super fast new golfs available, all great cars, surely there has to be demand for a high end VW Coupe, or am I dreaming, or p!ssed?
  22. Anyone know where we can get a set of Estorils refurbished properly? My father's set were done by S*it and Polish 18 months ago and they're blistered already look cr@p, and leaking air like I don't know what. My Speedlines could do with a tickle too, attention reqd around the rims and bolt holes
  23. Just sorting out my insurance renewal for my VR. Best quote came through http://www.insuresupermarket.com but that was with Bell Direct and I'm already with them. They refused to honour the online quote the b**tards, claiming it was for new customers only. Can they do this? Next cheapest by far for new business for me was Admiral going via http://www.confused.com , under £280 with protected no claims. Mind you I'm an old git now at 35 with full no claims, garage, low mileage........ Try those websites though, could save you a lot of cash. Hope this helps.
