  1. I second that mate. Plus you've always got the risk that the paint could start to come off and look pants. :nono: It's all personal opinion but mine is they look pants painted.... it all depends on the colour......IMHO tornado/flash red ones do indeed look pants
  2. i would imagine if you used a paint shop they wouldn't charge you as much as £100.................cashers on the other hand are a different story  i had a friend do mine a few years back for under £30-inc materials
  3. i still have mine serviced every year by VW.............just purely cos if i was in the market for one,I'd be more inclined to go for one with FVWSH................just as a sign that no expense has been spared in its upkeep........luckily i've found my $tealer to be very efficient and reasonably cheap...............so to me FVWSH is just for if i need to sell it'll hopefully be more attractive to a potential buyer
  4. but it is true as this can also happen...........i didn't claim that it was an exhaustive list of possible head gasket symptoms and i didn't say that these would all happen together  ..........eg his oil could easily be mixing with the water yet he might not be getting the white smoke from the exhaust
  5. normally one sure fire way to tell a head gaskets gone is there will be a mixing of oil and water in the engine this creates a mayonaisse-like goo thats thick on the oil filler cap(tho a small amount could just be condensation which isn't a major prob btw) there should also be a large amount of white smoke coming from the exhaust your water level will constantly need topping up oil and water will be mixing in the coolant tank.......tho again this can sometimes just be down to the oil cooler needing replaced poor performance can also be a sign of head gasket failure as for driving it..............i would get it in a garage for a diagnosis ASAP...........and would leave driving it to a very bare minimum......otherwise you'll more than likely need the head skimmed and could even sieze the engine if it gets too hot
  6. no worries hopefully its not the head gasket................but expect the worst with a C.................but could be worse..........it could be a VR6 you have then its normally double the cost  .......if not more
  7. that price was for more than just the head gasket btw..........his was burning oil so he had to get the valve stem seals done too plain old head gasket using proper parts and proper mechanic should cost between £200-£300 tops i'd say..............obviously less if you can get a mechanic to do a casher for you.......just make sure you change the timing belt, use new head bolts and use a quality gasket set
  8. varies...........as while your at the head gasket other jobs could also be worth doing........such valve stems/timing belt/head skim( if needed)..........one thing tho..............NEVER skimp on parts for these..ie buy the best(VW or OEM) to give you an idea on cost...........friend of mine had his head gasket changed along with the stem/seals and also the head skimmed from memory it came to £400-£500 all in from a local German car specialist
  9. that sounds pretty late. my vin is 50zSK003267 how many apart are we? yours is just over 100 after mine................not keen on putting my VIN on the net
  10. i'm guessing more modern and easier to tune
  11. the foam should be easy enough to remove its just the adhesive residue doesn't want to leave
  12. new mirror glasses then..............best wait til you win the lottery before sorting them out btw
  13. its meant to be a cnut of a job!!!!
  14. ..............and of course its had some input from Porsche
  15. i think mine has a build date of April 1995.......but wasn't reg'd til Dec 1995
  16. it could easily happen when the fuel tank is run dry and any contaminent gets sucked thru the system it could also perhaps be yer lift pump..........IIRC the 16v has 2 fuel pumps(lift-in the fuel tank and main-outside of tank) running on fumes isn't good for the pumps either btw
  17. might be an idea to budget for a fuel filter change............your existing one might have gotten clogged up with crud from the tank(even tho it will be made of plastic)
  18. its also for enviromental reasons too
  19. am i missing summat here???..............but is it not a chopped one?
  20. ive had mine for 4years and 2 months...................longest ive ever kept a car too  pretty sure Guy Hartley's owned his Storm from new tho 8)
  21. you could cut the number plate sticky pads to size.....bit crude.......or go to a decent DIY store and get heavy duty double sided tape
  22. unfortuneatly these days its very few people out there who when they see a Corrado think........"Ah thats the Performance flagship coupe VW had a few years back"........to the majority of ppl inc dealership staff its just another old car
  23. dont think they'll be magnesium.............sure thats illegal in the UK
