  1. This wont be anything to do with the switch... it will be the rheostat (a resistor that that clips on the side of the motor that the power plugs into) the fact that it only works on position 4 means that the motor is only working when it is getting no resistance. IE the other 3 go through the rheostat to contol the speed. The pat is £55 from VAG but i got one from a breakers for a 10er (It may be able to use one off a different car but it obviously needs to be off one with 4 speed settings (not mk2 golf, maybe some mk3's??) Phone 01159791121 for parts
  2. I always used to have probs with sainsbury's pumps - either clicking off or not working at all... I try to use optimax whenever possible now as i get better peformance and better MPG (above the additional cost) and never have probs, I wait until the gauge is in the red (just) and fill the tank full (15 Gallons total) this is usually about 65 ltrs and costs approx £50.
  3. Just had mine done, 2 were 130 and the other 2 140 - which the garage said was spot on!
  4. I'm 22 and had a golf driver as my first car and never paid more than 400 insuring it (from 19) TPFT... i still have it insured in my name and will have full NCB soon... I bought the G60 a few months ago and Its insured fully comp by my parents with me as an added driver for £237 - This is the third car insured using the same company and its limited to 6000 miles per year (I am the only one who drives it and I have a company car as well, my dad uses the golf, he is an added driver on my policy! - bit complicated but its cheep!! - I do drive the corrado with a 500 pound exess tho...)
  5. No VW never change it as part of normal servicing, same wioth the coolant that can loose its properties! - I have recently had both these changed, fully synthetic oil in the gearbox and its made a very noticable difference, worth doing!

    Squeek squeek

Yeah, like Lee says try some belt dressing first
  7. yeah, I was replying to the original post - wasn't very clear tho... sorry!

    RAD WELD ?

Definetly dont use it on a VR - it could cause blockages as there are so many small pathways

    Press button

G60Jet - this might be a stupid question but do you have to use your ignition key at all?? - Ie do you have to turn it to the first position and then press the button to start it up (and i take it if this is correct you do not turn the engine off by the button?>
  10. Yes you should definetly warm it up first and open up to full heat if you want to drain the system fully, you may also want to think about using a flushing agent to get rid of any corrosion etc - do this if the current water is no longer blue (or pink) and especially if its going brown (ie rust) - also a good time to change the expansion tank for a new one as they tend to go off colour and make it harder to see the level.
  11. Thats quite high - If you are a member of the CCGB you get a parts club discount which makes the Filter 4.20 and the Oil was £15 last time - so should be less than £20 for both!

    G60 MFA

Yeah that sounds fine, the water temp should stay fairly stable if your cooling system is working ok obviously taking longer in the winter to warm up and running slightly hotter in the summer. The Oil temp however will sit at nearly 100 when fully warmed up and mine goes up as high as 118 sometimes which i thought was rather high at first but alot of people with G60's have reported similar
  13. Clean the contacts on the switch first then maybe try another one if its not working at all, then move onto checking the wiring to diagnose if its the motor itself, The Rheostat (resistor that the power plugs into) that clips on the side of the motor has a thermal cut out, so check this and check for any visible signs that its gone, usually when it goes the blower will work, but only on the 4th speed setting (ie no resistance) - it is also a suprisingly expensive part becuase it has one more speed setting over the mk2 golf... £55 from VAG!!
  14. Yeah, I was a bit worried that my car ran too hot but after reading through the replys it sounds fine 100-118C - I am going to get the coolant changed soon and fully synth oil - will see if this makes any difference to running temp!
  15. Just a quick one, on my way to work the ABS light did not turn off, I drove a couple of miles and was still on, turned off ignition and re started car and it was fine for the rest of the journey?? - anyone got any ideas why this happened or what to check?
  16. Also keep an eye on the fluid level and visually check for leaks, I have recently had to get a new slave cylynder for my g60 - i knew something was wrong as it was biting really low (it got so bad that i had to take the mat out to change gear, then it started to leak so i knew what was wrong) Also if you do need a new clutch, do NOT get it fitted by Mr Clutch (as the previuos owner did on mine - long story) as you dont save much anyway!
  17. Yeah, i got em, they ordered tham in for me and took about 3 weeks, they are the carpet ones but the rubber ones are available i have been told - i may get the fronts for the winter Quality is ok and the main thing is they fit perfectly and come with the fixings - you are right tho, you do pay a bit extra for the corrado logo's but most dealers sell carpets at about 50 quid a set.
  18. Thanks guys for your quick respoonse with this!! - i'm going to have a look at some Passat handles tommorow - seems the best way to go as i have the remote locking already!
  19. Just letting people know I just bought a set of original black mats from my local VW dealer. Alot of people seem to think these are no longer available and a guy was selling them on ebay for sill prices (£75++) saying this! I paid just over £50 inc Vat but i did get a discount on these as i am a parts club member (also bought a g60 oil filter for 4.20 the W6 DPO plugs will only be 40 quid a set when its in for its 80k service later this year)
  20. I have seen this problem - what version of Internet Explorer are you running? I am looking at it ok with a machine with IE 6.0 on with no updates applied yet but I get your problem on my machine at work that has IE6.1 It may just be an option you have to change in the setup - i'll have a look when i have time Let me know your version! BTW - you can still search for stuff and go back and forward through the pages
  21. Came out the pub the other night, went to open the car door and got my first broken handle (a common thing to go wrong i have heard - and i take it you cannot fix them?) Does anyone know the best (cheapest) place to get a replacement - have already got prices from europarts and GSF, VW and GPC all are above 50 quid - I could get one from a local scrapy but I have it a second hand one will have more change of breaking again - or if not it may be better to get an 'original one' as i'm not sure the parts from GSF etc are the same as dealers???? Also Euro parts say there are differents ones for later cars 92 onwards (i Hhave a 92 G60 so they need the chassis number to find out which one) - the prices are not far apart but what i want to is..... if my car came with the early ones, are the later ones the same except just stronger (ie VW realised by 92 the originals weren't strong enough) and if so, will they fit as I have seen later cars and the handles look identical. The final question - have heard of people fitting rear passat handles with no locks (i have remote alarm) - can anyone tell me what year cars these are off and part numbers and do they fit straight on, any better, stronger?? - just want to look into this before buying a completly new handle but need to do it soon!! Any help with this is much appreciated!
