G60 ISV problems/whistle PD motorsport help may be required
Supercharged replied to G60Jet's topic in Engine Bay
Nigel... I think you may have just solved my mystery whistle, happens when i rev engine and goes away when warmed up... This has only happened as we have reached summer if thats significant (i didnt have the car until the end of last summer) I will investigate and check the ISV soon and let you know! - Does anyone know if this means the ISV needs replacing soon, the car is running spot on (standard G60 just hit 80k) but I would rather replace before i break down!! - I don't think the an expensive part anyway - worth trying to clean it out or just replace?? -
Hmmm... I changed my Rheostat when i got the car as it was only working on pos 4 but latley it has started making noises at lower speed, i take it this is due to the motor being on its way out, I had noticed it does not blow as much air as my Mk2 (unresisted) The whole resistor had blown on my Rheostat (not just the thermal fuse) so I got another 4spd Corrado one from a breakers... I take it these actually go as the motor begins to struggle with the load??? Anyway, what i want to know is are we saying the MK2 motors are exactly the same and i could swap mine for a new one and fit my 4 spd Rheostat and it would work fine along with my 4pos switch (IE the Corrado blower power is not rated any higher, just the resistor adds an extra speed)???

Seized rear calipers are quite common on VWs... the pads will then become 'shiney' as dust does not have space to escape and fuses onto the pad under heat - making a sqeeling noise as the pad sits too close to the disc Good site for info... http://www.stoptech.com/technical/

Joe, according to ETKA 3A1 862 531 Available in different colours off a 95 Passat Let me know if you get a price!

I think i'd have to see the car first in real life as there are so many things that can go wrong with these, especially because of the age of them now... Then again if its that cheap id be tempted to bid becuase even if it turns out to be a lemon - most cars are worth more broken up for parts now...

Mines bound to break soon the amount i use it... I can't wait!

The engine gaskets seem to be a common problem with the C, I know that gaskets dont last forever but the Corrado seems to get through them - maybe to do with the high temps our engines run at, especially the G60... I read a thread on the Yahoo group a little while ago about someone who had the sump gasket changed several times and still leaked, alot of people replied recommending the use of a sealant as well... Like Kev says, make sure you use a torque wrench and look up the settings first as the worst thing you can do is overtighten (or crossthread!)

Guys, I have just pressure washed my engine bay and its looking fairly clean and tidy... When I first got the car I re-terminated a few of the electrical plugs as the plastic covers were starting to disintegrate due to heat i think... what i now want to do is re-cover the looms / harnesses as some of the cloth type tape is also starting to peel off. Does anyone know the best place to get this stuff, i know you can get cloth tape from various DIY places but i dont know how good this is under temperature and if it will insulate the electrics properly... ?

As its on 80k miles I would put it in for a major service and just tell the garage it feels a bit sluggish, then with a change of plugs, and new filters they can tune it up for you and diagnose any problems. VW charge around £200 - a good specialist may charge a similar amount but do a much more comprehensive service so you'll get more for your money! If you decide to not use a VW dealer it may be an idea to buy the genuine service parts first, most specialist don't mind this and then you can just pay for labour... If you know the right places you can shop around and get things cheaper than garages anyway (especially at shows) - Also most service parts are around half price through the VW parts club (through the CCGB)

I'm pretty sure i've seen it in Halfords... This is the sorta stuff i mean, http://www.goldeagle.com/gebrand/lubric ... t_Dressing

You may want to have a word with James Shillaw, (east region club host - number should be in Sprinter) He has a late VR6 and had some slightly larger Pods custom made for him by a local firm..., I think they house slightly larger speakers than standard and they look as if they could have come from the factory, they should be able to recreate from there designs fairly easily i would imagine.
-
Yeah, Kev's right, mind you i doubt LEX used WD40, it may have just looked like it?? - you can get 'Belt Dressing' from most motor spares places which is silicon based (like the stuff he means)

we know what you drive and what you do!but how old are you??
Supercharged replied to vr6storm's topic in General Car Chat
23... i feel so old! -
Yeah, get the Kamei one... its the best i've seen plus its made in germany i think - I was lucky and get one second hand, it was missing the fittings but i called up the UK distributer for them and they sent me a kit free of charge!
-
Glad to be of help!

One thing i should mention about the Toyo's - they are no-doubt a good tyre and also look good but people who think they are a well priced performance tyre and getting value for money out of them should be aware how quickly they wear (especially on a G60!!!)
-
Hmm.. some of the bigger tyres are very well priced and i like the way there prices include vat and delivery - no hidden charges except you gotta get the tyres fitted! Most places will charge at least £7-£10 for this as they need to valve and balance plus they are not making profit on the tyre and will have to pay to dispose your old one! I got 2 A539's (195/50/15V) from X-purt tyres in Ipswich they cost me £41 pounds each all-in - they would have been 38 each from Mytires at the time and there 40 now!! i then got another pair of the same at inters for £50!! - and hopefully X-purt will do me a good deal on fitting as i just bought the others!

Well that’s what I found, I did get advice from several garages about this with the corrado and when I had my mk2 golf (same size wheels and tyres) they all recommend 28-30 psi, and also all seem to think the manufacturer recomendations are far too high on most cars!?! - why, I dont know. My car is meant to be 38 front, 34 back on half load - I ran my car at that for 6 months when i first got it as it was fairly original and FVAGSH and wanted it back exactly as it came out the factory before i started to do any subtle modifications\upgrades - passat door handles/wipers etc (it had an awful set off 17's on it and i immediatly changed them for a set of original (optional) BBS splitrim's which improved the ride considerably - alot of people put 17's on as they definetly look better sized for the car but most of these people then miss the handling of the originals and decide to go back to what the car (and the speedometer) was designed around. After the advice, I now run my BBS's 33front\30back - boot is normally loaded with work stuff (not particularly heavy tho...) - I should point out that I have standard suspension, ABS brakes and TOP quality tyres - Yoko A539 195/50/15V (fantastic). G60jet has a good point as well, not every thing written on this forum is necessarily correct or the best thing to do (that goes for the internet as a whole), most of us are enthusiasts passing on knowledge and giving advice based on past experience, and it is worth getting professional advice before doing anything that you are not entirely sure about!! Hope this helps
-
They are pro's but make sure you also take some protection as most of them also carry nasty diseases, these can affect fuel comsumption and sometimes block the injectors completly...
-
The manufacturers pressures are way too high.... I run mine at 33 front and 30 back - you should just experiment and see which feels best... most tyre places will tell you 41 is way too high especially as this is a cold pressure... when hot this will go up to 47 psi - a two-tonne transit would run on that kind of pressure!! VR's may need a bit more because of the extra weight at the front of the car but i think a difference of about 3psi between the front and back is perfect for the G60

Yes i would definitly check you are not losing hydraulic fluid, my slave cylinder started to leak internally first so its hard to spot.

Yeah man, My mate got a meguirs one, £12.. Spent nearly a whole day on his car... looks superb!
