  1. No need for mods... should fit straight on, you don't even need to take the cards off! Just unscrew the handles, disconect the central locking switch wiring, this may just fall off but keep hold of it so you can insulate the wires as these won't be needed anymore, tuck them back into the door and swap the mechs and install the new handles with a bit of grease/oil.
  2. Hmmm, I heard they were re-launching a new site soon but not changing name or anything.... ...Looks like someone forgot to renew the domain registration or they've lost the mapping to the site..?
  3. Yeah, call them, there the daddies, I got my mechs from inters chromed for a 10er and the handles from them, £10 each +delivery, they were fine but new ones from VW are only £17... The part numbers are... Door Handles - 357 839 205/206 Mechs - 8A0 839 015/016A (i don't think the first 3 numbers matter, just the car they came off but you want the mechs without the childlocks)
  4. AAIGHT, If your lucky, just the fuse will have blown and changing it will sort it out, On mine the large resister had blown (you could see the leek at the bottom of the pack) - I got one real cheap from a breakers, let me know if you do and i'll give you the contact details and part numbers....
  5. Yes, you want to compare if the clutch feels different to another VR6, if so you may have a leak in the hydrolic system
  6. Thanks Roddy, I had already bought one from G&S (£80) but called them anyways (I would've taken it back) but the one above is only for the carb modles (mines the single point injection) - the guy on the phone was actually quite helpful (strange for a VW dealer!!) Thanks for your help anyways! nearly saved me some wonga!
  7. Yeah, I was thinking about the waxoyl as well, my only prob is I havnt got a pit so axle stands it is! How many pipe are there to connect?? and how does the filler neck come off? - just drop down? what about the perol gauge - do i need to calibrate it?? Anything else I need apart from the tank itself (and a bit of petrol)? Thanks for the help
  8. Question for you guys... Anyone had experience of changing a Tank on a mk3 polo (coupe style)?? It is a metal tank (like the old Scirroco's had) and has corroded where the filler neck runs down the inside of the wheelarch (sh*t design) Any advice to what is involved appreciated - I wouldnt think its that hard a job as I can get to the tank easily without having to remove anything else (i think) - but my mate who normally does any jobs I can't be bothered to do won't touch it!?!

    Tyres

I've currently got A539's all round and quite impressed with them
  10. No I cant see the mileage coming back either, which is unfortunate (or not!) - Its obviously saving the figures again but does it lose tham if you disconect the battery, this should give you some idea as to if there is another small batery in the pod that needs replacing or If it keeps the current miles, I'd have to agree with LowG, In that you may have wiped the memory somehow whilst installing the system!!
  11. Yeah, it must do - the clock always resets tho..
  12. I would have thought they'd use an Eeprom but from what has happened suggests that there is some sort of small backup battery for the MFA and the main one has been disconected long enough to drain the small one also??? Or mabye if it is stored on an eeprom some sort of power problem has erased/reset it? Have you tried the VW dealer about this, sometimes they can actually be quite helpful!!
  13. LC2U Have attached a list...
  14. Hmm, I'm glad someone asked about this again, I had been told it was normal but wasn't sure... when I get a minute I'll have a look at the wiring diags and see if its connected to the rad fan run on (it certanly appears to be) Mine is sometimes quite noisey - altho I can't hear the pump from inside the car when the engine is running - you can when you switch off (or on without starting)
  15. Ok, cheers guys... I may go AA this time as there the bigger organisation - may be better at diagnosing/fixing probs and don't seem to cost any more for the one vehicle... Any other experiences before I part with the cash anyone??
  16. Rob - If you still have the warranty, get them to sort it then you wont be buying 'blind' parts.... Kevhaywire is your man tho for VR probs! Andi - those size 17's have a different rolling radius than the standard 15's so surely it must affect the ride height??? (and the speedo too)
  17. I need to renew my cover.... What do people recomend, I'm looking at directline, green flag, RAC etc All seem to be about the same price for basic cover...
  18. I think mk4 Golf calipers are the way to go, straight fit (i have heard) and there made out of a light-alloy and less prone to seizure, think mk3 will do also but mk4 better...

    exhaust

Yeah, Powerflow are the dadies! - Mine is a cat-back with a letterbox tailpipe which is fairly standard looking, nice sound as well, not too loud.
  20. I did my old Golf ones with a spray and made them alot darker than the originals (half tint) - the light went through fine and was never a prob for MOT's - I have just aquired another set for the C so I am planning to do the same soon. BTW - on the spray it does say its removable (its about £8 from wilco's) and its available in colours altho they look crap (blue, green etc and you'll never get the red to match the other red on the lights)

    STORM advice

Campaign, I told James and Debbie about the one in Ipswich, altho they had seen it before and it has actually been to a GTi show a few years ago as the pics were on the CCGB website... (so not exactly discovered - as they all had personalised plates as well) It is absolutly mint, is not used in the week and at weekends if its sunny its taken to the supermarket (thats where i see it), its owned by a mate (who i used to work) with, girlfriends mum and I think they have had it from new. It looks like its just come out of the showroom and still has the Scotts of Slone square plate holders!!
  22. I don't think this is the problem but you may as well check fuses first and it could be related - the spoiler seems to use any fuse from 15 - 21 depending on what modle and year you got.

    Sticky Doors

The handles are a poor design and always break at the same week point but fair enough, original handles may last longer if the lock mechs are cleaned and regreased
  24. Does anyone know if Hamorite is any good for this - it does not give any indication of temperature on the can???
  25. Just sent mine via Paypal... Thought its about time I did as I seem to be spending more time on this forum at work than I do actually working! (plus It looks to my Boss as if i'm really working hard  Keep up the good work guys, Steve.
