  1. To be honest I don't see what all the fuss is about. If you took a Corrado and tried to p/x it with a high street car trader I reckon you'd get the same offer as this internet company. Put yourself in thier shoes as a trader - who the hell wants to trade in a 14-19 year old Volkswagen with rubbish fuel consumption which aftermarket warrantee companies won't cover any more? I mean I love my VR6 and everything but as a businessman you'd be daft to offer the kind of money most of us would try and sell privately for. Sorry, but it had to be said...
  2. Oh drink driving isn't a problem then?? Reported Road Casualties in Great Britain: 2008 estimates for accidents involving illegal alcohol levels This release includes provisional statistics on accidents involving drinking and driving in Great Britain in 2008, according to the arrangements approved by the UK Statistics Authority. The figures also include final estimates for 2007. Figures show that: Fatalities resulting from drink drive accidents rose by 5 per cent from 410 in 2007 to 430 in 2008, whilst seriously injured casualties fell by 7 per cent from 1,760 to 1,630. Slight casualties resulting from drink drive accidents also fell by 7 per cent from 11,850 to 10,970. Total casualties fell by 7 per cent from 14,020 to 13,020. There was an increase of 3 per cent in fatal accidents from 370 to 380. Overall drink and drive accidents fell by 7 per cent from 9,280 to 8,640. I'm sure the living casualties that weren't drunk drivers would disagree. Get an accurate perspective http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/statistics/da ... drinkdrive Go and read the post properly. The guy in question wasn't driving, what does that have to do with drink driving. Of course drink driving is a problem. This guy was a fool, however he wasn't driving, he wasn't speeding in wet weather, he didn't kill anyone. Being a passenger in a car driven by someone who had been drinking does not make somebody "a total menace to society". Fact. We have to leave that label for the murderers, rapists paedophiles etc Well I think the argument goes along the line of 'he knew he was over the limit, and encouraged her to drive instead, knowing that she was also exceeding the limit" That makes him a proper bastard in my book, and her a stupid idiot for agreeing to it (and then driving at over 100mph etc etc). What he did was appalling, but nonetheless she was the one driving the car, and she has to take the responsibility (which she has as she got a 7 year sentence, although that's nowhere near the sentencing limit nowadays). That all said I still think a 4 year stretch is excessive and inappropriate simply for encouraging her to take the risk that she accepted. But others may well disagree. My good friend Butterfly once showed me a photo of car she used to own once (which was flattened by another vehicle), and if I'd escaped a wreck like that one I would probably have a different view to the one I've expressed here.
  3. In December last year I had to buy a set of new Corrado parking brake cables from TPS and was told that the set I had bought was the last set that they had - or ever would ever have. This morning I had to order a new foglight button unit from Volkswagen, and they've told me that the one I've ordered is the very last unit that VW have in stock in the UK and there won't be any more of them. So the moral of this story... is if you need any remotely unusual parts you might want to get them ordered now before I get them! It suddenly feels like a lot of Corrado parts are now running out. For example you can’t buy OE door seals anymore. On a serious point though, is this an indication that we're coming to the end for parts support for Corrado specific parts now? Has anyone else had a similar experience or information on this they can offer?
  4. indeedy surprised she aint been roused already Ha Ha! Bears hibernate until around the end of March Kip. After that I'm guessing it's "let the games begin", LOL. You'd think A1VR6 would have learned his lesson after the 2005 Castle Howard show wouldn't you (I can't believe it's already that long ago!)
  5. Hey John :) Didn't the CCGB have the numbers of each colour sold in the UK, that would settle this rather than personal preferences. Good to see Blackberry in your top 5 though, it's also the fastest colour  If the CCGB did have that information I wasn't aware of it, which is a shame if they did have it and it's been lost to time. I'm not ashamed that there is definately a "theme" to the colours I selected, but I've always liked Blackberry Bill, it's the colour I originally looked (unsuccessfully) when I bought my first Corrado back in 1998. As for Blackberry being the fastest colour, I suspect that the owner of one particular Aqua Blue car is readying herself for an argument with you on that point, haha
  6. My top 5 goes: 1) Mystic Blue 2) Moonlight Blue (which I've been lucky enough to own one in this colour, they're rarer than they should be) 3) Blackberry 4) Genesis Blue (the colour the G60 Jet limited editions came in) 5) Aqua Blue I'm working on converting as many people as a I can to Talengrau (Forest grey)
  7. Well I knew I wouldn't have to wait long for a suitable "compare & contrast" story, and here is is: UK's drunkest recorded driver jailed for just 4 months despite being six times over the limit A Polish man who drove whilst almost six times over the alcohol limit - the highest level ever recorded in the UK - has been jailed for what a magistrate has branded a 'reckless disregard for life bordering on the suicidal' Link :http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1248516/UKs-drunkest-driver-times-limit-jailed.html So there you have it, British Court sentancing; bloke jailed for 4 years + £20k fine despite being in the passenger street, whilst another gets just 4 months despite driving six times over the limit.
  8. For my part I actually agree that this bloke should have been punished. I just can't help thinking that 4 years and a £20k fine/costs is just a bit out of proportion to his act. In this case he appears to have been sentenced in view of the consequences of the resulting accident (and nobody was forcing the woman to drive were they) rather that the offence.
  9. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/linc ... 494422.stm "A man has been jailed for four years for causing the deaths of a couple by dangerous driving in Lincolnshire - despite not being behind the wheel. John Nichols was in the passenger seat as the car hit Mark Crompton and Jodie Brown on the A1 near Grantham in 2007. Driver Mary Butres, who was speeding and drink-driving, was jailed for seven-and-a-half years last month. Businessman Nichols, of Manor Road, Carlby, had earlier denied causing death by dangerous driving. He was also banned from driving for four years and ordered to pay £19,420 in costs at Nottingham Crown Court" I mean seriously, this bloke has been sent to prison for 4 years, banned for 4 years and fined almost £20,000 when he was sitting in the passenger seat? Is this what the world is coming to? Is it just me or does this seem just a bit bonkers?
  10. And as if by magic, right on cue: Michael Schumacher sets second fastest time in Valencia test http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/formula_1/article7011538.ece
  11. You should never have sold it on Mike. Now it's been killed and cut up into little itty-bitty tiny pieces by the nasty people. Just hope it wasn't exchanged as scrappage against a Kia Pride, that would actually be an even worse fate. :) John
  12. Honestly I hope it doesn't happen but I can't help worrying that it might...
  13. This one just popped into my head. How long till the season starts?
  14. There used to be a Thule roof bar kit which fitted the Corrado (available in Halfords) but when I was in there a couple of weeks ago I couldn't find the Corrado in the index book for the kits anymore. You may need to contact Thule direct to find out which bits you need to buy. As for the roofbox? Yeas absolutely if you need the space. The boot is poxy-small anyway so it makes total sense for those occasions like the one you describe. But make sure you get one of the carbon-fibre boxes to keep the cool factor, or get your box sprayed to match the bodywork or something :)
  15. This might seem a little weird, but in my previous post created a number of weeks back I had a joke calender with my car showing in the garage for new tyres last Saturday 23rd Jan. By sheer con-incidence (but this is weirding me out a little) my car did actually pay an emergency visit to the garage last Saturday to check out a misfire (fixed - bad wiring connection as it turned out). Eeek! I'm wondering if I should take a guess at when it will go in during February now! Perhaps I should organise a sweepstake, LOL John
  16. Yeah you could sit there wondering if they're going to turn up at your house one day  Indeed. [doorbell rings] [Driver] "Look I've brought your old Corrado back to see you after 10 years. Look how I've restored it & how clean it is" [Householder] "What the f**k? I hated that car! Why are you here? Are you on drugs or something? I'm calling the Police you weirdo! Get away from my family house!" (etc, etc, etc)
  17. You might make him/her smile, but I doubt you'll get a response. I must admit if I got a letter like that after 10 years (and you're kinda assuming they still live at the same address as when they sold the car) I would feel a little weirded out
  18. An Aston Martin V8 Vantage Volante is a lot less money and far nicer. The R8 spider looks like a kit car with an Audi badge to me. Sorry. :?
  19. If you think Corrado numbers are looking thin, go and check out the Sciroccos...
  20. If it's just a couple of bits you need, then just phone VW ! If you need diagrams I think you can still get Corrado explodes from VW themselves at https://erwin.volkswagen.de/erwin/showHome.do (you need to pay for info but it's a good site). Look under "historical workshop manuals"
  21. Already converted mate :)
  22. I'm a bit hung on this one. On one hand any potential increase in values is welcome, but on the other hand it's good to have a steady steam of breaker's parts still available as dealer parts prices for so many things are just ridiculous - assuming you can even get the parts you want anymore! BTW Gareth I've only just noticed you back (doh!) - good to see you back here & Corrado owning again. John
  23. @UseOnceDestroy Not sure where you are in Dorset but if you're near Poole/Bournemouth I can recommend Gary Francis at Insignia Coachworks (Poole) for repairs. He's independant, high quality but great value. 01202-716808
  24. Thanks for the tips all. Have already found a better price than eBay for a potential replacement (http://www.worldcarparts.co.uk/tabid/14 ... fault.aspx) - just £76! Also interesting to note the wide range of VW & Audi models this particular Bosch ISV found it's way onto.
