New series of TOP GEAR Sundays. Series Comments
corozin replied to The_Dude's topic in General Car Chat
I got bored and put a DVD on instead. It was dull, dull, dull. By the time Eric Bana had come on to plug his miserable movie I really had had enough. Mind you the last series started off just as bad and got better as it went on. And it's not like there's anything else on TV on a Sunday night is there? -

As the owner of a vBox I'll be happy to oblige if anyone feels like they want to set up a test :) -
I see this sooooooo often - arrogant looking fools in theor Astons, Porsches and s-classes yapping on their handsets. This is really one for the 'vent your spleen' thread. Its just the air of superiority that they have that cheeses me off and like you say they cant fork out another 150 for a handfree or Parrot :bad-words: Bet they've never been in a Corrado, is what i say :D I agree. It's such a tragedy to see such a marvellous achievement of engineering ruined by an idiot who's incapable of driving. I wonder what he's going to feel like when his insurance company rejects his claim because he wasn't paying attention or in full control of the car at the time (apparently startled by a low flying pelican whilst making a mobile phone call and driving too quickly)

GT5 is a bloody waste of time. I used to be a complete Playstation fan and when I saw the PS3 in action three year ago GT5 was supposed to be an imminent release then. So I waited and waited and waited for the title to come out and finally got bored and bought an xBox two years ago. They were making promises about GT5 being only months away even then And that way two years ago. Frankly FM3 has raced up behind Gran Turismo and overtaken it. The dynamics in FM3 are tremendous, has loads of cars, tracks and enough challenges to keep you going for ages. Sony missed a huge opportunity with the PS3 & GT5. There is no way I would buy a PS3 & GT5 now. Pointless.

I don't want to be PM. I'd rather be judge, jury and executioner.

I'm pacing myself. Have L35 now but keep spending all my credits on juicy metal upgrades. Trying to win the R2 series with a modified Veyron or turbocharged Reventon sounds fun but I really need a good R2 race car to take the stress away! @Yan - well done there fella. I think you're going to be first to complete on this forum . I've been coming under some severe peer pressure in the office to bite the bullet and get online (which I've resisted until now because of the outrageous cost of xBox wireless kit). When I do I'll give you a PM so I can seek you guys out for some Corrado 1-make racing :) In other news I'm pleased to report that I've been able to make xBox Corrado look almost exactly like the one on my drive. The "warpaint", correct compomotive wheels, satin black wing mirrors, blacked out windows - it's just tremendous. I'll post some comparison pictures up shortly to shock you with how close the likeness is. Cheers, John

I don't even think it's a question of having the flag on the car mate. It's unacceptable simply for the action whatever the circumstances. There is nothing you can say to me to justify running up onto someone's car and jumping up & down on it. It's just nasty behaviour. And who are the people who do this kinda stuff? The dregs of society; those too stupid or too malicious to act better than this. I don't even accept the influence of alcohol as a factor - that's just a weak excuse trotted out when they get caught. Perhaps if the penalties were severe enough people would limit thier intake. KipVW doesn't start vandlising stuff when he gets smashed does he? It's all down to having some basic standards of behaviour in the first place. I agree with your point about the poor little student who's life chances are now wrecked as a result of his conviction. Well so what I say. He should have thought about that before he did his crime. The fact that he was too drunk or stupid to know the difference between right and wrong makes him unemployable in my book anyway. Better if he just drowned himself in the river now and save me paying taxes for a lifetime of his unemployment benefits. At best he should at least be neutered so that he is unable to reproduce any more like him.

All they get out of it is the satisfaction of ruining something because it is there, because it's nice, because it's looked after, because it isn't thiers, because they won't get caught, and because there won't be any real consequences for thier actions even if they are caught. The Police and Courts increasingly assume in these cases that your insurance will recompense you when considering prosecution and sentencing. But the criminal who caused your damage is (in my view) absolutely no different if not worse to the scrote who decided to take a pee on the War Memorial... indeed I'd argue that in your case the vandalism is worse because it has left you with actual damage to pay for. The kid who wee'd on the poppies is facing a custodial sentence, but only because he's been villified by the media and (conveniently) because his court trial conincided with this year's poppy appeal. Where's your justice going to come from even if the culprit is caught? Why should your insurer (and your NCD) take the hit and not be recompensed for these costs? Until scrotes begin to believe that (a) they will be caught (b) there will be some real consequences for this kind of thing (rather than useless ASBOs and community service orders) then the deterioration will continue. That's why I really think we have passed the point where the only message that will get through and change things will be corporal and capital penalties. That may seem extreme to a many people, but if that's not the answer then show me what else will penetrate the tiny selfish minds who commit these kinds of crimes for kicks?
-
I'm really sorry to hear about this Paul. Unfortunately we now live in a society where more than ever before people have no respect either for themselves or other people's property. The scrotes who damaged your car not only have no respect, but know full well that even if they are caught they will get a slapped wrist and will not be made responsible for the cost and misery of the damage they've caused to you. For over 20 years successive Governments have chosen to find new ways to appease the oiks of society. It's never thier fault; were supposed to allow for thier poverty, bad upbringing, bad breaks, lack of education or whatever. In my view the culture of appeasement has gone so far that only very dramatic action will turn this kind of behaviour around. Frankly I think these people should (if caught) be made to face the full financial damages for what they have done. Failure to repay the damage, or repeat offenses should be met with capital punishment. We shouldn't waste our taxes paying for them to go to prison, and if they won't show proper behaviour then what's the point of putting up with them anymore? In my view if we hanged even just a few of the buggers concerned you'd see some big changes in the crime figures very quickly indeed.

I know this is in danger of going off-topic but I have to take issue with your analysis. The 'old' Battlestar Galactica was a piece of Glen A Larson rubbish that was so dreadful even in 1979 that a Star Wars loving 12 year old Corozin stopped watching it after about 4 episodes. By comparison the modern revision was vastly superior in every single way, despite the storyline being padded out in a number of episodes.

Unlimited budget to mod a corrado what would you do?

Unlimited budget you say? Buy an Audi RS6... -
I'm with kevhaywire the PPC Porsche looks like a much better proposition to me. That said, for sheer level of "streetsleeping" of a 700bhp Saab 99 takes some beating. You'd need a 2CV or an Allegro or something to better the Saab's basic concept The wacky scandanavians... the skills and ideas of so many of those cars frankly make the UK scene look like the efforts of small children. Anyone remember that Matthais Vocks Volvo Amazon? (http://www.autoblog.com/2006/11/01/sema ... -stunner/2)

Corrados in Bournemouth area.... WHO ARE YOU?!
corozin replied to frandaman's topic in General Car Chat
Guys I'm going to have to bail out of the Tidy-VAG meet this Sunday. I've had a bunch of unrelated problems with my car in the past 3-4 days, including a driver's door which doesn't open (broken link to the catch) and an ignition barrel which stranded me in Broadstone last night. Apologies, but hopefully will be ok still for the Smugglers Haunt event still. -
Thanks for the thoughts guys. I found a post (viewtopic.php?f=19&t=77272&p=897551&hilit=lock#p897868) linked of the thread posted above which might be the answer. I think I'll experiment by taking the passenger door card off first to understand how the mechanism works. From recollection (when the car was in the bodyshop in May) the lever which actually pops the door latch is underneath the handle, so it should (I think) just be a case of hooking it with a coat hanger or something. The trick is going to be getting access down the top of the door card without damaging anything or breaking any clips. When I've figured it out, I hope you all have alarm systems fitted!. The problem almost certainly has it's roots in how we put the door back together when it was in the bodyshop as it's never been 100% since that time really. Will let you know how it pans out after the weekend. Cheers John

The Problem Something inside my driver's door has failed or disconnected. I cannot open the door using either the internal or external handles. I need to find a way to open the door so that I can remove the door card and fix the broken part. Is this a case of removing (gently) pulling back the trim at the top/rear of the door & trying to hook the lever with a coat hanger hook? Or is there a better method? Suggestions greatfully received please... John

There are medical circumstances which can lead to someone being sectioned. I think your friend might needs therapy. Now.

You need to catch up on events fella! At one point (I think it was the 2004 season) Ken Lark's team ran a second silver car for a young ex-Karter who turned out to be crap, plus there was a blue/white VR6 driven by (I think) Michael Neuhoff. None of those cars have raced since 2006. Ken Lark now races in historic saloons, and although I believe he still has the silver Corrado race car, he was driving a Vento VR6 when I saw him at Brands Hatch in September (in a support race for the DTM) The valver started racing the following season. I think with the way the rules for the championship are now set up (where any new entrant car which hasn't raced before now has to receive a special dispensation from the organisers to race) will effectively mean the demise of the older models over time. VW have been fairly good over the years with the equivalency formula for old & new cars racing but I don't think they're exactly thrilled when a 20yr old Scirocco beats the current models which VW are trying to sell !

Been there, done it. Almost killed myself a few times as the (otherwise very lovely) standard car didn't handle or stop anything like the (Koni coilover & Brembo) modifed car it replaced. It was like driving a completely different car to what I'd been accustomed to ! To answer your second question Corrados do have pretty solid bodywork but even despite that the youngest cars are now 13 years old. Frankly most cars which have been used regularly during that time will have needed some paint and dint removal by now to look in top condition. It's no different for any other old car. Having paint refreshed doesn't mean the underlying bodywork has rotted at some point.

Ok I've been around for a long time now & I can help with this question. Genuine Storms were all produced within a specifically allocated range of chassis numbers. You can look it up it ETKA I believe (and no, I don't have it installed so that's why I can't give you the numbers now). The cars were sent to the dealers with the necessary badges supplied in separate packaging which was put on the car before sale. These badge packs have appeared rarely on eBay over the years... I know someone who sold one of these for over £200 a few years ago. If you're lucky someone will dig the chassis number range up for you & post it up from here, but that is where you need to check. Hope this helps John

It's enough to fail an MOT. Give me a ring if you want to discuss & I'll put you in touch with the owner as she has the MOT sheets. You'd probably have to trailer it with no MOT though. John

If anyone wants an interesting 'bangernomics' project involving a rare 1981 VW Santana saloon, with the 5 cylinder n/a Audi engine fitted send me a PM as I know of one with failing bodywork but great mechanicals in the Bournemouth area available. A little piece of VW history as they only made this particular model for about a year.

I'm bound to say I'm impressed that you got to level 23 in the first day or so of playing Yan. It's now Wednesday, I know how much I've been playing it since Friday night and I'm still only at L16! Did you actually leave your house (or your sofa) at all last weekend mate? John :D

Corrados in Bournemouth area.... WHO ARE YOU?!
corozin replied to frandaman's topic in General Car Chat
Not sure if you were referring to myself and Fran, but it would have to be in November for us to attend. Not being silly, but suggest we move all conversation re the meet to the thread. I'm ok with possibly moving the date into November myself, but we need to discuss it with the people who are already expecting to go on the 13th. Maybe we could even have two meet ups (if meeting at the Tidy VAG on 8/11 isn't already enough! By the way my chariot is now finally back on the road. The car is a very distinctive light grey (flat) coloured VR6 with matt black wheels & mirrors. If you see it around town make sure you wave & flash your lights! I'm mostly around central Bournemouth/Westbourne area. Mostly... Apologies in advance if I'm driving too fast to wave back, LOL John :D -

corozin replied to frandaman's topic in General Car Chat
We could have our own Corrado meet if there's enough of us, just make something up out of the blue? Sounds like a plan! :D Anyone else up for it? Years ago we used to get together at the Smuggler's Arms in Ferndown as it has a big car park. A Corrado meet between now & Christmas would be good. Since it's been a while since the South Coast mob met I'll set up a thread on Events tomorrow for it.
