  1. The answers simple really.. If the stuff is such a miricle substance why have the Huge oil giants not adopted the formula as a standerd consituent in their oils? I'm quite paranoid now about what passes though my filler cap. 3 years back I changed my sump gasket at my old work one quiet afternoon, realised I'd forgot to pick up some fresh oil so pinched 4 litres of the Post Office finest mineral diesel oil that they use in the red vans, bad mistake, had a few puffs of smoke on the way home and all indicative signs of a blown charger oil seals. Stripped the charger down to find the oil seals completely dissoved. The detergents in the oil had killed the seals...
  2. Yes indeed. The loom is not listed as a individuel component under the PG engine code Appendix, you have to order the item for the Digifant 8v GTi golf lump where it is avaliable as a individuel part.
  3. This is becoming quite a issue now. We have replaced several injector looms this year that look as if they have been stone baked and then fed to mice. A replacement 8v Digi loom from VAG is around £48. It's worth G60 owners taking a peek to check the integrity of the loom on their car.
  4. You do get a few conflicts of interests though in big companies. Marketing departments get the finel say in some matters above the old engine engineers. I spoke to a chap at Wolfsburg's a couple of years back who was telling me about the Polo G40 when I quizzed him. Out of the box they are 113BHP/111ft/lbs, decent figures for a 1.3.. but the potential for the stock engine is a lot more. The inlet from the airbox to the supercharger has a huge restriction ring formed in the plastic to restrict flow, as has the throttle butterfly plates etc.. Why? To restrict the engine's power output to that of the big brother 8v GTi golf at the time, and to keep the performance figures on paper less that the even bigger brother car the 16v Golf. The G40 had a 2k less price tag the the 16v, marketing did not want a car with a lesser price tag to out perform more expensive models and to keep the car in a sensible insurance group. Remove the restricters out of the system and a 113BHP car jumps stright up to 127-130bhp. You don't have to touch the ECU as some nice techie has already written in the ignition and fueling points into the map for you for the circumstance. As you say, they wanted to get the most outta of the engine as they could, just a bit of red tape got in the way. I used to live next to a chap who worked on the team who developed the maps for the 80's legend the old Cossie. A interesting chareter, in his late 50's and a wealth of information. Again, a simular sort of conflict in that camp, the orginal design spec was for a sub 200bhp motor etc, etc. The maps were written to cap the power of the production car even though maps that safely extracted a lot more power out of the engine had been developed, insurence and marketing policiys had the last say on that aswell. Intresting that his son owned one of his ex company cars from that era, a 240 odd bhp stock motor with one of the OE maps. There again your companies policies may be different or politics change with time so you can just brew up maps to extract 100% potential. All these 155mph restricted motors? Seems that engineers have there hands tied in a bit of poltics on these little stumbling points
  5. Right .. merry xmas everyone.. I'm pissed... Even in my pissed incoherent state i'd have to disagree with a few points. The orignal design engine map has had vast amounts of funds ploughed into them admitedly, but the objectives of the manufaturer original map have many factors which are not related to performance. Drive by noise levels and emmisions being two major role players. Sure the o2 sensor keeps mixture in order at part throttle, but the o2 correction can also be altered in a map if a map is created correctly. A original manufaturers map may have a part throttle correction on the o2 which keeps things way on the lean side for a few hundred rpm to ensure that a vechicle meets particular emmison restrictions for its market. Ignition timing is altered on some cars to lessern torque at lower RPM's to eliviate stress on running gear such as gerboxs and subsequent warrenty claims for premeture failures. Why do you crudly want to interupt senders signals? Most systems ignore o2 sensor on WOT so no gains will be seen by altering the input signal. If you did richern up the mixture this way you would just exagerate the trends of the original map, effectivly plot a mixture line slightly richer but following the same trends so you would not iron out any discrepencies in the map, just change the base line. You could have a integigent box that altered input vs rpm I suppose, but to go to that extreme you may as well just do it properly in the map. Chips are never going to give you the claimed 10bhp+ figure that are claimed, quite aware of that, but you can gain power/torque by ironing out original design factors in the map that are written in for emisions. A 2bhp/5ft/lb torque increase at 3000 rpm will noticibly make the car more perkey and drivable. Which is really the the goal you are looking to achive. Basically ignoring all technical shite.. if a engine has been mapped by a car manufaturer for out and out performance and that only then I guess there is no point in chipping a car as no or tiny gains will be made as some one else done the homework, but in this policy/regulation/Legislation riddled socoity we live in this prety picture is never the case, hence 9 times outta ten gains can be made from chipping a stock motor. Not pulling power from thin air, but carfully ironing out altered map code that was intentionally written in to achive alterior objectives. Anyhow.. merry fooking xmas ya all.. i'm off to bed as the bottle of JD has just run out and my ECU needs a break as it's processors are getting fryed.

  7. True.. to an extent. On the other hand I've seen a few car mapped by muppets who have mapped around inherent problems that a car has. e.g. weak fuel pump and compensated by running a crazy injector duty cycle. Custom maps need to be created by a operator who is conversent with the mechanics of the car to be mapped and the car that is being mapped is 100% functional before being mapped. A map is as good as the person producing it, off the shelf or custom. Assumption is used in custom maps also. The only map that will be 100% true is the line that is being adjusted at the time of mapping, the operator will adjust igntion advance and fueling with the car running for arguments sake 92'c water temp, 25'c inlet air temp at all the different load points for say 5psi of boost, but alll the other values afterwards in real world will be assumed. He will dial in a % correction for water temp, air temp etc etc etc which throws the custom theroy completly outta the window unless they have manipulated and mimiced all synarios of possible running conditions that the engine will operate under in everyday use... This thread could be one of those ..lol
  8. This test will in theory test the integrity of the knock sensor, although the test seems a little arbitory. All you are testing for is if the sensor is work/not working, hit the block hard enough and you will proberly see the desired results, but you are not really checking the sensertivity of the sender which is the important factor. All you are testing for is that the sensor is working when it should be work, the irony is most knock sensor related problems are the revese, the sensor giving false signals to the ECU that the engine is suffering from pinking when in fact it is not. This is usally due to the sheiding of the signal cable being damaged and the core absorbing moisture. I would strongly suggest that you change your knock sensor on your car if you have not already or if there is no history of it beingchanged recently. The majority of senders have seen better days now. Would you trust the integrity of 10 year old HT leads? Well a knock sensor cable is no different.
  9. I'll confirm next week, but think they are roughly about a tenner per line.
  10. Nein  Unity should produce a sister magazine. 'Purposeful VW'. Criteria for feature cars,, Ghetto, no bullshit tools modded to go fast not loook pretty.
  11. Well chuffed mate! :D Think I need some turbo diesel rear mounts now and a short shift kit! Another question though, I have modded the air box on mine, and since changing the pulley the induction note has changed quite a lot. Whereas before it made a droaning/resonating type noise, now its more of a growling noise at low revs, changing to all out roar higher up. Just checking this is normal, as It doesn't sound quite the same as my mates Rallye we did last night  The charger rpm to engine rpm ratio is altered when you alter pulley diameter causing the tone of the charger resonate differently. I agree with Jim, out of all the G60's that leave our workshop in any state of tune, all have their own distinctive sound (barring the 1.9's that just sound like pure filth  )
  12. Drop us a line if you get stuck. I can sort lines out seperatly (hey Mr Cowie  ). I'd be inclined to replace all six as they have proberbly seen better days.

    G60 Samco hoses

Still picturing you head to toe covered in grime battling those hoses on!!

    Please help!

Hmm... recon your turning.. Very nice car, but....... ye.. big brakes, look nice.... ye, sod it I want one too.
  15. The most effective mod you can make to a VW.... Transform your lights in a few minuites (although can take monkey mechanics hours) from candels to Y2K applient. :D :D
  16. Wait until you done about 20 of em.. becomes monotomus.
  17. Ther's a MK1 G60 in cov with a flowed eurospec head and 2.0 bottom end. A while ago it made 230@flywheel at stealth with the std pulley at 7500 rpm since it has had a 72mm toothed pulley fitted. should fly Lee Yep, Jat's motor.. Runs slightly higher compression too and a brand new charger. Propper torque monster as well as a high end screamer.
  18. Yep, the header tanks on the Rallye cooler foul the towing eye mount off the chassis leg. Golf G60 cooler fits stright in, the only mod being is that there is a little excess metal on the front of the intercooler that has to be hand crafted off (a la angle grinder) to allow for the slight front end that a corrado has compared to the Golf's 'square' grill profile. No modifacation to the car is needed at all as Steve says. Hosing can be fabricated to form the U required to sweap back under the charger and into the intercooler, but this will be nowhere as neat as a off the shelf cast alloy U bend, which unfortunatly carry a good 200 odd quid premium from barry stealer. The stock G60 cooler only has a 2.5 inch inlet if i'm not mistaken. All G60 corrado owners need to ask santa for a front mount for xmas to unleash the hidden PS there motors have. There is plenty of room for stock G60 golf intercoolers and properly designed custom front mounts in Corrados without the need for cutting panels, modifyed bumpers or several hundred quid of pipework to plumb them in.
  19. The original Maps are all engineered on a cross section of cars that are 100% screwed together as 'benchmark cars' that are known to have fully functional senders, ample alternator voltage, fresh injectors, strong fuel pump etc etc. Working on that assumption, if a car is not functioning correctly when any new EEPROM is fitted then this is indicative that either a sender is down, one of the adjustment parameters is set way out of normal values for the car to run correctly or there is a fault in the wiring. The EEPROM is a fixed parameter, the ECU can only supply correct values to run the car if it is been given correct information. I have seen many cars this year that have awful overfuelling probelms which have been masked by mechanics with not a fulll understanding of digifant and its failsafe systems. The cars havve had the CO pots screwed out too 1800ohms just so they pass emmisons on idel. This may do thhe trick to pass emmissions, but is masking the problem of say a weak alternator or poor loom earths.
  20. We offer a 'GOLF G60' specific kit too. Full description, pimping script and prices on our own webspace. http://www.pitstopdevelopments.com/oil.htm
  21. Superior Coupe ! pic thumbnailed-vr6storm S3's are very bland and serdate to drive. My ex missus had one as a company car. Very nice interior, stereo etc.. but as far as driver envolvement.. hmm.
  22. Sorry.... what was that??? Your selling your VR6 and buying the propper sports version G60 Corrado  ... Ohh you have seen the light and going to buy Volkswagons best original sports Super Coupe
  23. LOL.. The Genesis may be gay.. but it is far more genuine than your fake 'MC Hammer' edition raddo... Besides, helping fix a car does not mean that you take the part you were supposed to fix home and sell it on Ebay!!
  24. Yep.. we will be checking all references very thougherly this time. Will not fall into the same trap again by false information given. Nicking a VW Golf GTi campaign while skiving from school when 16 does not count for 'VAG trained road side mechanics' and quote 'getting a non starter running in 2 minuites'. Also claims of holding a 'Full race licence'/'maintaining race prepared high speed motors' is not upheld. Doing a bank job getaway job and not getting caught is not the the usual way to obtain a race licence, neither 'changing a flat tyre on a drugs run and still getting the goods there on time!' counts for maintaining race cars (even if he did have to nick the spare wheel off another car). All stooges will be undisclosed. Funki is apprently now going alone running his own outfit called 'Bad ass Racing'
  25. New member of staff started today.. He has just come out of Brixton for a streach for doing a 'Drive by', he may be a gangster but he is our new VR6 specialist... Before his dealing days he was a VAG trained technition for 18 years and as he says 'Knows his shit!!'. Think most of you know him.. Funki.. although he can go by an alias as he upset a few people in his old VAG days charging for work he did'nt do. He assures us he is a changed man now and his 'Gangster' days are over. We gave him the boot at 6pm as he was found pilfering the biscuits and sent him back to Crawlley where he belongs :D
