  1. .......and the power steering (if you have it) ......and the alternator.....
  2. I use a toothbrush to clean my wheels, the neighbours must think I'm crazy
  3. Cool, I'll be going then. By September hopefully she'll have had her respray so I won't have to hide her in a corner. :D
  4. Think I'll pop along to E38 seeing as it's only half hour up the road from me. Do you have to be an E38 member?
  5. I have a 1.8 16v on a j plate and I have this window closing feature. When you turn the key to lock the car make sure you hold it in that position. On mine I turn it anti clockwise.
  6. I have a shelf that my other half made for me. He put the sub in the shelf then covered it with black acoustic cloth. Just looks like a black parcel shelf....... :D
  7. There's one bolt at the top just to give the caliper a bit of room to get the pads out then the two caliper to carrier bolts.
  8. I am currently in the middle of changing the front discs and pads. Does anyone know what the correct torque is for the 3 bolts that you have to undo/do up??
  9. I bought an immobiliser off ebay. It is a VW one, part no. 998 VAG 600. It says it fits golf/passat/vento/corrado. Only thing is it came with no instructions........ Do you think it will be pretty straight forward which wires go where if I just take the steering column cover thing off or should I leave it to someone who knows what they're doing? There's 7 clip/connector things, anyone have any ideas? If it doesn't fit then it's no big deal cos I got it for the bargain price of £1.
  10. I think whatever car you have parking in the street is a bit of a risk. I used to live in a small victorian type street and TWICE some idiot has driven into my car. Luckily this was before the 'rado and now I live in a quiet village with a big drive  oh, and welcome to the site!! :D
  11. Good corrado spotting day today. I've seen three already. First a red one in Bierton near Aylesbury, parked outside a house about 9am ish. Then a black VR6 on the roundabout near the big building made out of shiny glass in Aylesbury (near the bus stop) at about 11am ish. And then a green 16v on the same road in Bierton, possibly outside the same house about 11ish.
  12. Ok so it turns out it wasn't the water pump.....it was the power steering pulley that was bent or something. So the belt was slackening then tightening etc. Is it worth changing the water pump anyway seeing as I have all the bits?
  13. Was at the dealers yesterday picking something up. Asked how much a brand new charger was, just out of interest...... £2389 !!!! WTF?
  14. I have been having this conversaion with my boyfriend and his mum. She has a t25 camper which she calls Brian after the snail on Magic Roundabout because her van's so slow. My boyfriend has just got a t25 van which he called Ian one day as a joke and its kinda stuck. My reg ends in CYL so they reckon I should call it Cyril but I don't like that, plus I think my car's female. So I was thinking maybe Cilla (plus its black!)
  15. Is this the plastic flange? The stealers looked at me funny when I asked for it!
  16. Liking the word 'wobblage'! If it isn't a word then it should be.
  17. Yellow J reg in Milton Ernest yesterday about 4 ish, I was in a black J reg, my other half was driving.
  18. The exhaust is blowing at the back box. ATS said it would cost £190 for a new one. Does this sound like a reasonable price? GSF are selling them for £79, is the labour for fitting one going to be over £100??
  19. Yeah, I had my car stolen a few years ago, that morning though I could not get it to start, but somehow the buggers managed to steal it.
  20. oh, should have figured that out myself really
  21. Err, forgive my ignorance but what does does getting goldfished mean?? Saw a silver L or N (can't remember) near little/great staughton on Weds evening about 6 ish. I was in a blue transporter van.
  22. Yeah, mine too. Changed it at the weekend, took about half an hour just to get filter off. Tried the screwdriver technique but because the filter is in such a supid place it didn't work too well.
  23. Yeah he's quite reasonable, I don't think his main job is a mechanic but he definately knows what he's doing. Might ask him how much it'll be to do water pump at same time, but I have limited funds. I graduated last year and am still living in my student overdraft!! Sorry for asking you guys loads of questions about it but I wanted to work out which job, if any, I wanted to attempt myself. Anyways, thanks for all your advice :D
  24. Scarlett, I'm actually insured with Chris Knott, but the cheap quote I mentioned above was with First Alternative. They wouldn't insure my other half though. They said I was nearer to 25 so I was classed as a lower risk but because he is 9 months younger than me and male, is a higher risk so they wouldn't insure him even as a named driver.
