Corrado spotting - August 2005
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Dr Forinor's topic in General Car Chat
Nice black G60 parked in Clifton Village on Saturday lunchtime. I did honk in case you were nearby, but all I got were some very odd looks from the locals. -
And the irony is that no-one there can afford that price.

Older cars had a smaller tank - thirsty VR deserved a bigger guzzle. So, dunno!

http://www.findcheappetrol.com/ This boy in the office today was talking about his parents farm and how they buy red diesel for 19p a litre!

Corrado spotting - August 2005
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to Dr Forinor's topic in General Car Chat
Hmm, yeah, I've seen that one a few times too - very friendly, 'cause I normally get a wave! A friend at work told me today 'one of your cars has just moved in round the corner'. (Apparently a C on Gordon Road - near the Richmond Spring.) :thumbleft: -
Has anyone noticed their reading wandering? I rapidly gave up trusting the reading after about 5 minutes of driving, as there is clearly some soakback from the engine. I was a bit surprised about this, because previous VWs, SEATs have always had a pretty reliable reading here. Any ideas?

What's the best looking/most ugly car ever made?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to StormVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Surely the bloody Prius must win the ugly stick award. Favourite? Tricky, but.... either the Stratos or the Lamborghini Miura. Absolutely stunning. (Although even better in black.) -
Are Oettinger exhausts good...and is this noise normal..?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to matth76's topic in General Car Chat
Matt, I can't speak for all, but I know mine is has a pretty lumpy idle. The 2.9 VR6 has an auxiliary water pump which is electrically powered. This can run on for a fair time after the ignition is switched off, to aid cooling of the lump when there is no air going through the bay (thus minimising soakback). It's probably this which you can hear. It often unnerves me, and even runs if you have the ignition on for about ten seconds! Anyone else got any ideas? -
Brilliant - I love the way the microphone on the phone can't handle the raw chat of the engine and distorts! (Or maybe that's my speakers? ) :|

How did you get through two tyres in six months? Pretty good going - if you wear your tyres that quick, no wonder you need your discs changing!! Have you checked your pads as well!

 I remember the time I was bored and put washing up liquid in the dishwasher to see what would happen but then forgot about it. It went bloody everywhere, it looked like one of those Play Boy parties! The kitchen floor had never been so clean.

Classic. Did he get a spunge squarely between the eyes?

Is that for the insurance?

Just bought a VR6 Storm for

You lucky git - mine's lumpy as my old ma's custard. Congrats! -
Surely if the light never comes on, there is nothing to fail the MOT on? As I understand, it is only if the light comes on that they will fail you for having a 'warning light', even not knowing what it means. That's why you can then pass by taking th bulb out! The ABS should fail safe, i.e. off, anyhow. But it this case, it seems that it works OK but no light - I reckon the bulb's gone!

Good Salesman & Good Buyer Thread
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to VR6's topic in Site Comments and Questions
Thanks to Gavin (H100VW) for the uprated loom he sent me. Easy transaction, and it came earlier than I could have hoped. good instructions, pretty straightforward to fit (if a muppet like me can do it, anyone can!) and fitted well. Mobile number was included for emergencies! Gavin obviously takes pride in what he does, and has genuine interest in getting his customers the best. A real pleasure to do business with. -
Rusty Fuel Neck - where to get a new one
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to alplatt's topic in Exterior
Mine has also rusted a bit round here ('94 VR6). Let me know how you get on replacing it. -
What's the rarest car you've ever seen?
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to StormVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Talking of the 959, I followed one on the M25 (in heavy traffic, admittedly) for about 10 miles a few years back. The irony was, I was in my g/friend's Skoda Estelle 130 at the time, a few months before I blew it up! -

Yeah, very cool. The SZ is one of the few cars I might consider 'graduating to' in the future, although no doubt they are expensive. I dunno, somehow they feel like they have the same attitude as the C - a bit quirky coupe, not too popular when meybe they should have been? -

The Leningrad Cowboy replied to StormVR6's topic in General Car Chat
Ferrari Enzo at Le Mans this year, but I suppose that's almost cheating. There's an Alfa SZ that lives between work and the pub, and they get it out every so often in the summer - very cool looking, and about one thousand ever made. -
D'ya fancy an Astra VXR then? Bit steep at the moment, I suppose, but I bet at some point they will get heavily tweaked, and that'll be mental!

Spotted Jeremy Clarkson on the Isle of Man
The Leningrad Cowboy replied to VR6's topic in General Car Chat
Not really a meeting, but at Le Mans this year, I was one of about three people in the whole place with a Finnish flag. When the drivers did their drive past at the start, JJ Lehto gave a big grin, point and wave, which I was quite pleased with, but when he did his winners / thank you speech at the end, he thanked the people with the Finnish flags as he'd never seen any before. Gave me a warm feeling all over. OK, well not all over. -
I use my C as a daily driver, and have been lucky enough to do so for the year and a bit since I've had it. The only time it's needed garage attention, I've been able to drive it there, and pick it up the same day. Touch wood, fingers crossed etc....

Woody, I don't know if you've sorted this yet, but I have similar issues that I'm trying to resolve. However, I did find that the two 10mm bolts at the bottom of the door in the centre (I think they hold the guide rail to the door frame) were loose, and tightening them up certainly made everything more stable. I've not had a chance to drive around yet, but I'll be on the look out for the clip if it isn't sorted.

I also have this problem, coupled with a 'sticking / releasing' sound when I initially open the window. I thought that somehow the window glass was misaligned with the frame and was 'releasing' itself on opening, but low and behold, the two bolts which anchor the guide in the centre of the window to the door were loose, and just tightening these up cured the problem. I guess that the tighter bolts may have realigned the guide to the frame, but if I never know, I'll never care! Still working on the thump at the bottom, though. I'm not sure I've located the pieces actually making the noise, but hopefully with a bit more time and some rubber liner material, I'll find it and fix it.
