Whitedog replied to Alex_G60_Fanatic's topic in Forum Group-Buys
If you have any left over that no one wants i'll take a set of 4 off your hands...cant believe i've missed this by a couple of days...doh -
Yeah, was in the works van.....dont work there now though. Didnt annoy me, its up to you how you drive, you just seemed in a rush everytime i saw you  I know how you feel, i aint drove mine in 2 years, spending money on the essential bits first, then i can make it look nice. Should be back on the road for april so we'll arrange a meet up then if you like. Silver looks better than black on the estorils too...

Put the sunroof onto tilt and pushed the interior panel back towards the roof lining. There are 4 torque headed screws that hold the metal roof panel to the runners.(These can be adjusted front to back and height) Undo those and carefully lift the roof out. Remove the seal clean the edge and apply small amount of grease to help with fitment and also improve the water resistance. I put the panel face down on 2 cushions and tapped the seal into place with a hammer. Place the roof back into place and nip up the screws then carefully lower the tilt and you maybe have to adjust the position for it to sit perfect. Once the panel was flat i did any final height adjustments,. I will take it all out again and do a How to guide with pictures but just wanted to get it in before the weather turned. thanks andy Dont think you'd need to remove it to do a how to, what you've just said makes perfect sense...maybe do a how to on handing over the large amounts of cash required to purchase one of these seals from vw  ....i'm certainly not looking forward to it :mad2: ....some things just arent valued accordingly at all.. :cuckoo:

Wish i could paint to that level, i'd be well chuffed with that wing. Cars looking top notch, a credit to you. I've often thought about getting another rado as a daily, but its hard enough keeping one on the road, let alone two.........i take my hat off to you... :notworthy:

Not available as in obselete..? That could be an :epicfail: Yeah, whenever its a dry day it'll be coming off, its a fully waterproof one so no water can penetrate, although i know condensation could still form. Gonna get the mrs to stitch me up a corrado shape cover out of terry towelling or the like to put under it which should help. I know they arent the best, but my paint isnt brill anyhow, and it cant be anyworse than the state of the car following last winters outdoor survival. Just uploading pics of lights, will be on shortly. Suspension is having a bit of an overhaul around march time, once the worst of the winter is out the way, in preparation for its mot and grand unveiling in april. :norty: Pics of lights, excuse quality, having to use phone as camera is broke... :(

Will get some in the morning, they're in the garage and i'm about to grab a bath.....think they look a bit different from doing them dark...

Another night, another job......tonight i removed the headlights and detailed the silver bit inside a nice gloss white, with a black/grey stripe in between the two lights. Think they'll look smart when fitted, lighten up the front end a bit, lenses are a bit pitted but should clean up with a bit of t-cut.
-
Tonight i removed the headlights and detailed the silver bit inside. The drivers side one was a right git as the rear fixing screw was heavily corroded, its always the most difficult to reach one that corrodes nicely....

Just remembered this that happened at the weekend. My neighbour was getting his car valeted by one of these mobile valeters, i came out the house to do some work on rado, no sooner than i had opened the door he and his mate were over chatting about the rado....thought it was funny how they just stopped cleaning my neighbours and were chatting for about 15 mins, opened up the bonnet for them and they were like....wow now we're talking. Love the fact it still gets recognition even though its been off the road for 2 years...ha ha.

haha, have you seen the verdict of that red 16v on page three of the article......funny as fook. -
mmmm...shiney shiney....wanna see it all done....come on pull your finger out...haha

Wow, quite simply wow....love the second shot (side profile). One day my car may be up to this standard.....and if it is i'll be chuffed to bits....well done mate.
-
So tonight i thought i'd try and get another job crossed off the massive list and decided to have a go fitting the bonnet release cable that i acquired from tallpaul1977, cheers paul. Fairly simply to do, a bit fiddly. Probably harder to get the fuse box back into position with the white clip thing. Now just need to get a new guide and clamp (the trumpet looking things) from vw and that'll be that sorted. Also today i managed to print off my pdf copy of the bentley manual.........1060 pages, double sided thats still 530  Now gotta hole punch them all..... :epicfail:

Any pics of it fitted mate?

haha, i feel your pain, although this angers me the other way round too sometimes, when i flash someone to let them through and they arent paying any attention, so then your in a postion where your not sure if they saw you or not, and you slow down to make sure they are not suddenly gonna pull out infront of you... only normally flash someone if i'm doing a slowish speed, would never flash someone to go if i'm on a 50mph road or something.

I prefer the later style dash, just seems more comfortable if that makes any sense..... Although if the interior is tidy and well looked after then the early style can look smart too.
-
WHAT THEY SAID ^^^^^ :norty:

Thinking of getting a couple of holes put into it with eyelets, then just put a bungey cord underneath, should do the trick.

I'm not a pro mechanic by any means, always learning though, and i found the mechanics suprisingly simple for the conversion, so satisfying removing auto parts and fitting the manual equivalent. I struggled a bit with the wiring, reverse lights etc.....but took my time and i got there in the end. Dont think you'll have a problem with this, seems like you have a lot of willing helpers too.......more heads are better than one.

All wrapped up, no snow or frost gonna get it this winter, hopefully it'll stop it from fading to flash pink all the time too as it keeps out uv rays. Oh, and the pesky bird poop too.
