    Car Bra?!?!

looks like a gip mask for a car! :batman: covers the front bumper and the front edge of the bonnet/wings etc Lots of yanks have them to protect their cars from stone chips
  3. Did you also know that if your paintwork has an orange tinge where rust has started to come through the painwork or a dribble of orange rust you can use metal polish (brasso, silvo etc) on the area to remove the stain and reduce the rust visibility A temporary measure of course
  4. Oh yeah my dads got some stuff you paint onto rust (driveshafts, wishbones etc) that seems to have a chemical reaction to the rust then turns black when dried. Thought that might make it look a whole lot better and slow down the corrosion. Anyone had experience with this?
  5. Gunk brush on for £5.99 or the other one for £10.99? What about electrics/plastics etc? Shall i use a wire brush? Whats the best way to go about it?

    Loose spark plug!?

Never had to buy a torque wrench before but as the block is aluminium im considering it :(

    Loose spark plug!?

Not as if the compression is really high to push the plug out. Could the heat generated in the engine expand the block and loosen the plug cos these engines do run hot?
  8. Driving home last night noticed my engine was making a clacking noise in time with the revs. After inspection this morning (and a near heart attack thinking it was the water pump) it truns out the centre spark plug in rear bank of cylinders was bobbling up and down and it was loose  . I then took the offending HT lead off and the engine misfired when started. It seems as though even though the plug was loose, there was still ignition of the fuel. I tightened the plug and now the noise is gone :? . Is this a symptom of something more sinister? Or should i just ignore it?
  9. Thats a bummer, bit workshy see :( . Will my elbow grease not rub off the paint protection?
  10. corradoVR6-nos will have to get back to me but possibly tomorrow. Dont know either of the guys personally cos have never met them before but i'd be up for meeting. Chris says he can supply nos and has a supercharger so wouldnt mind some advice as well. Might be worth sending them a PM to find out what the crack is
  11. Well Paul i dont usually go out cruising or owt like that but have been PMing ChrisVR6nos and CorradoVR6nos bout the possibility of meeting up. CorradoVR6nos suggested possibly a meet this weekend (Sun for me cos im woeking sat). They say there are a few c's that meet up sometimes at the Team Valley or the Arniston Centre in Durham. Not far to travel and it means that you can see different c's to see if you like them. By cheap p/ex what i meant is if your car is cheap (£1000-£2000 or abouts) i will p/ex as i need cash cos im moving away on my placement year at uni. I would like to see some pics of your car as it sounds interesting. You could post some on the site. Cheers Rory
  12. Campsite sounds good - can't have any beers if we all have to drive home the same day. Supposed to mean stay there the night somewhere close to a pub
  13. Ive just sent you a PM :D
  14. My engine bay still has all of what appears to be the original wax that protects the paint although the stuff is on my plastic rocker cover and wiring near the strut tops its ugly and yellowish. Is this standard??? Futhermore the chassis legs near the bulkhead are collecting dirt which appears to be stuck to this paint protection. How would i clean the engine leaving it sparkly and new but not so that the car may start corroding? Have heard horror stories bout steam cleaning. Is it any good? Whats the problem with it?
  15. If he races people as keenly as he wanted to race you he has probably knackered the poor thing :( Dont ask questions, just bask in your own glory :D
  16. How bout going to a campsite somewhere overnight so we can all get BLADDERED and not have to drive home 8) 8) . My dad does it with his classic motorbike club and gets a massive turnout cos people arent scared to drive far if they know they dont have to drive back that night :D ! It'll only cost a few quid to pitch a tent and with all the business the campsite would get would mean they wouldnt mind loads of us turning up. Come on with all the sun we've had would be a great laff
  17. Half way through 95 the VR6 rads apparently changed and are ultra expensive cos you cant get the £87 one from euro parts cos it ha the wrong mounts! Thats why the guy had my car for days    and i had to get my rad recored rather than shelling out £230 then fitting! If you have a Storm the chances are you will have to pay the same. Do what i did, keep it off the road and get it recored cos the end tanks will still be there with the VAG stamp on £200 all in
  18. HEY PAUL IM IN NEWCASTLE!!!!! Look at my car in 4 sale sec. May even do cheap p/ex if anyone is interested
  19. A tip if yr engines hot as ive had loads of old dodgy motas and these work quite effectivley Drive in as high a gear as possible, dip the clutch if yr going down hill the engine will only be doing 750rpm (enough for the water pump to work) but there will be gale force winds through the rad. Also in traffic turn the engine off if its gettin really bad and start everytime you move off (lookin silly is cheaper than a melted engine). All of this and you should never get in trouble as ive been in a 1hr traffic jam in a 205 1.9 GTI with no rad fan without trouble (Tyne tunnel for those in the North East)
  20. For £7600 you could get a one owner car where the history is almost certainly genuine with no engine probs and all the services. You might need to search for a good one but they are about for that money and less and you can tell what sort of life theyve had by the condition. Mine is nice @ £5500 :D 77k 95N
  21. Oh yeah and the freaky thing is my rad went @ exactly 76800 miles as well !!!!!!!
  22. £230 i was quoted just for the rad  unfitted about 1000 miles ago!! So i got a bloke from my local garage to get it recored £200 all in with labour although he had it for days The bumper must come off as well as lights, grill then the slam panel is connected to brackets that are in front of the rad so has to be unbolted and levered up to slide the rad out of the bottom. Dont do what i did and see how the guy was getting on with the job only to see my car in bits, a horrible sight. Its ok now tho
  23. Both door handles will break, the wing mirrors will start peeling and the electrics will go t*ts up like on every other bl**dy c :( !! Oh well it would be a boring life without climing in the passenger side in a crowded supermarket car park only to find you cant see behind you when reversing out the space at night with no lights!! Only kidding good luck mate

    VAG servicing

WOW Colebrook & Burgess in the Silverlink Wallsend Newcastle. They did the service, picked me up and dropped me off home, valeted the car, put an air freshener in and didnt charge me for the engine diagnostic (£48 labour)cos nothing was wrong with it:) :) . Also talking the guy i got him to look up the history of my car and found that every service is genuine and he printed out my wheel alignment on a fancy coloured picture of my car with the corrected figures :D . £195 all in but the service was really excellent if a Mod could put this in recommended garages i would be happy
