  1. there's a good guide for changing the filter in the knowledge base. There's even a handy list of what parts you need. I just bought a filter, wish i'd bought a clamp for it too though.
  2. Are you coming to the Southern meet this weekend in Otterbourne? Only just up the road from you.... clicky here for details
  3. I've just been to a mates place who has a spare 2l golf engine knocking about, I thought it was a 16v, but it isn't, It's a 8v engine with the code, KAT, it's out of a L reg automatic golf estate, and is 85kW apparently. I know that the 6A and 9A engines fit, but i've not come across this one before. My question is, If I put a Kr head, and sump on the block, would it fit my corrado? Does it have a different bell housing, flywheel (I assume so). Would it be much work to get her to fit, essentially. It's not going to cost a lot to secure the engine (£50 or so) but I want to check it'll go in first.
  4. Judging by the ages of your cars I assume you've both got electronic senders, you'll find them on the back of the gear box, on the diff casing, there'll be a connector that plugs into the sensor, pull this off and then it should unscrew from the casing, 22mm socket rings a bell, pretty easy to replace, well, easier than a cable anyway.... Hope that helps Tom
  5. Read right through the thread mate, it's not just the title!!!! hence my laughing in my first post on here........ I said it before, and I'll say it again, Good pork Walesy!!
  6. With regard to cutting the swirls out, when I was at uni, I used to have to take metal samples to a mirror finish before etching them with acid. To polish them up we would turn the sample through 90 degrees every time we changed grades until all the old marks were gone, then change grade, turn through 90 etc. I hadn't thought about the relavance of these techniques until now. Eventually you'd work down to 1 micron diamond polishing paste, that was super fine, the samples looked lush!!!
  7. With a good fitting socket it went on fine, without much of a clout too. Cheers jonny!

Bloody hell!!! I just looked at the prices!!!! $7000 for Stage 1 4-450hp? $35 per additional horse power? Sorry, going O/T.
  9. Cheers jonny, The joint is the right way, I did wonder about that, but one side has a piece of jointing which should sit against the gearbox flange (I believe) I've just been on the phone to a couple of people, and they reckon using a socket which fits on over the shaft, but presses on the circlip and hitting it hard with a hammer will do the trick.
  10. Anyone??? I've been thinking about clamping the driveshaft in a vice and using a pair of G clamps to pull the CV joint down and compress the spring washer enough for the circlip to fit in the groove.
  11. Hi, I've just replaced both inner and outer CV joints on the passenger side driveshaft on my 1.8 16v, and am having problems getting the circlip which holds the driveshaft in the CV joint to fit. At the moment the spring washer fits on the driveshaft, concave side toward the joint, the joint slides over the splines, and the circlip should fit in the groove on the shaft with the joint held tightly between it and the spring washer, however, I can't press the joint down far enough for the circlip to properly seat in the groove. I've looked in the bentley manual and there is mention of a C section peice of tube to press the joint down far enough, but I can't see an easy way of doing it. Anyone done this before and have any tips? or got any suggestions of how to press the joint on further, or do I have to make a peice of pipe up to fit? I've knocked up a nice picture to look at too.... Cheers guys....

Sometimes some people prefer the old stuff..... It's being an individual, mate, I understand that the 24v will get you more power etc etc, I think everyone understands that. But perhaps some people want to stay 'old school'. Not everyone might consider it 'pointless'. How come every thread about increasing the capacity of the VR or trying to get more power out of it ends up in a 12v vs 24v argument? I thought the question was about 3.0 VRs and power gains/reliability after all.
  13. No worries mate, shame it didn't go a bit smoother, but we got there in the end. Just waiting for another wheel bearing and CV joint for mine, and hopefully I'll be going again soon. Have just about got over my frustration from the weekend!! I'll give you a shout about that pint when I've got mine fixed.
  14. I've just been reading through this thread, and I'm loving Walesy's work!!!!! I find it a bit funny that people buy a cracking drivers car and then degrade it's drivability by lowering it ridiculously and putting mahoosive wheels on it. I'm not saying any of you are wrong or owt, far from it, but I far prefer having good hamdling and being able to drive the car hard than it "looking good" This comment has nothing really to do with the rest of the thread. I'm going away again now...... Keep up the good pork fellas!!
  15. You could drop it up first thing Saturday morning, and we could get as much done as possible before the match, possibly leave it with me for the afternoon, shouldn't take too long to do, or do it sunday although i'll probably be hungover? Just make sure you get a new circlip for the CV joint (I assume its the type that needs one) A haynes manual is always usefull, but I'm sure we can figure a way out. Might be easier if you could pick the CV joint up for me if you've still got to go? but don't worry too much if not. I'll pm you my number.
  16. I usually buy stuff like that from GSF, they're pretty good price and quality wise I think.. You've just fitted a new distributor cap haven't you? Spark plugs? how old are the HT leads? Have you got a Haynes manual for it? Must get round to ordering my bits up, might just grab them Saturday morning on the way back, cheers though. I'm going home so I can work in a barn, incase it's raining, and the floor isn't too bad to lie on, it's in between Hursley and Sparsholt. Do you know Sarum Road?
  17. I suppose strapping a small child to my bonnet would help work out which one it is?? I'll get a mate to listen out the window tonight, possibly. I only recently adjusted my rear bearings up as there was a fair bit of play in them, but they seem ok still.
  18. Hello mate... I've got to ram a front wheel bearing and CV joint into mine, and drop the oil on saturday, I'm more than willing to help you with yours afterward, make a bit of a day of it if you want... Have you got all the bits yet?
  19. Just to bring this one up again, I've got a rumble from the front of my car, which seems to go away if i turn right handed, I think it's the left hand wheel bearing, would these symptoms fit this problem? I jacked it up and spun the wheel and it wasn't too bad, there was a bit of noise, but the knackered CV joint didn't help there, also there wasn't much (if any play) The other wheel span slightly more quietly. I'm probably going to order the bearings and a new CV joint ready to attack this weekend, but I just wanted to check my diagnosis was right first. Thanks Tom
  20. That's a very good point!! [charm magnifier] Excuse me miss, but I'm clearly more attractive/funny/clever/talented than anyone else here, would you like to be my special chum?? [/charm magnifier] Hehe. Welcome to the forum anyway Miss, apart from the odd wierdo (']['H3R4POR, me) it's a pretty bloody good site, seemingly full of very friendly, helpful people. Hope you enjoy the new car!!
  21. I was putting money on you turning out to be PhatVR6 after the first page.....
  22. Have PMed you mate. What kit have you got? I might try to borrow a timing light and a compression tester for the weekend, if you want?
  23. Not decided on a location yet, think it's between Winchester, Southampton and Portsmouth, there's a thread in the events section. would link it but i don't have the URL.
