  1. Righty. I've got a 1.8 valver, and my fuel consumption recently has been RRRRRRRubbish, about 28-29mpg. The car's been running quite poorly too. A couple of wekends ago I decided to clean the K&N, which turned out to be properly filthy and fiddle with the mixture according to KevHaywires instructions from a thread from ages ago. And it was brilliant!! She went really well, and the economy was 34-35Mpg. However the economy has dropped right back again to 28-29mpg. I've not been driving it differently. Same sort of journeys etc. Also the ISV is on its way out, sometimes I've got to heel & toe her for the first couple of miles until it's warm, and it will idle by itself again. Could this have something to do with the poor economy? perhaps the ISV sticking open and making it run rich or something?? The mpg figures have been from the MFA, which I know isn't the most accurate source, but the figures seem to tie up with the actual fuel consumption. Any Ideas?? Thanks Tom
  2. Good point, I was going to say no, but it is increasing the distance between the pullies, so it will, slightly. Can you get Vernier pullies for the VR to correct this?
  3. Try this thread Might be different depending on if yours is an early or late interior.
  4. If you did and had a bit of a ramp, you might be able to clear the Solent! Save on the ferry charges....

That looks like the honey!! The siren is marked GT42 on that pic so you're on the right street. phone up some installers and say you've got a GT 11 alarm and see what they say. Think that's hungarian isn't it? There seems to be a Goulash recipie about hafway down. Edit 97864. i see you beat me to it on the GT42 malarky :)

ROFL Quality!!! There's no other stamping or moulding marks on it? It appears that Getronic is a german electronics firm http://www.getronic.com/ but I can't read German, and it doesn't look like they knock alarms up any more, just components. The Warranty stamp saying 02/94 suggests it's aftermarket I wonder if anyone else has one still fitted, maybe they'll recognise the siren? got any recipts from around that era? Suppose you could try your local alarm fitters.

The siren is on the left of the picture. Yours might look like it, or it might not. :D

I mean the speaker bit that makes the noise. usually bolted to the bulkhead, or around that area. Mine is on the Bulkhead pointing down on the passenger side of the car.

Is there a siren in the engine bay?? If not, it might have been removed. Otherwise it might have more identification details on it. My sigma one does.
  11. Could be a fault with the switch on the drivers door? maybe it earthed out causing the fuse to go?

    What oil?

Dredgey, try this. There's some useful info in there. antonio_b12, a mixture of :nono: and :2gunfire:
  13. Hold up Gangster??? It's fine, I've heard that terminology used loads, the kids are all over it apparently!!
  14. Nice work. But, hold up, gangster! Your name is HarleyGirl, but your real name appears to be Steve? Are you actually a Geezer, or a Bird?
  15. I reckon it looks a bit like the one on the left. i'll look up that radiator supplier and post it later for you.
  16. Will it already be out of the donor car? If so, check for leaks, try turning the input shaft by hand both in and out of gear, see if it feels smooth. Check for cracks and that the speed sender is in place so that no cack can fall into the box. Try to undo both the level and drain plugs, check that they aren't seized in. see if there is much in the way of metallic particles in the oil. There's not that much you can do if it's already stripped out.
  17. 13 Sciroccos and 6 Golf GTIs  Thats a different car every 18 months for the last 30 years roughly!! Most people won't own 20 cars in thier entire lives, let alone in just 25 - 30 years (I'm assuming that you've owned them since they were launched) Good work lady!!!
  18. That's pretty poor! When mine popped I bought one from a radiator supplier at Bursledon (Southampton) and it was in the next day. It wasn't OE, but I asked a lot of people in the trade and they all swore by him, it was much better quality than the GSF and Euro car parts, clobber. I don't remember the name of the company, however. But I expect there will be someone local to you who'll get you up and running quickly. BTW your sig makes you look like the p!ssed bloke on the Mitchel and Webb comedy program, Sir Digby something, when he's running around humming his theme tune.
  19. Cheers guys!! I'll give guardian a call this week. gsbellew That'd be brilliant!
  20. It's DIYable, to save the initial fitting costs, but you ought to get the camber and tracking checked after. Unless you're me, and stupid.
  21. Front only. It's what the hub pivots on, mounted in effect between the hub and the wishbone, assuming you mean bottom ball joint. There's a steering ball joint too, which is £17 and 15 mins to fit per side.
  22. What's so bad about that? wonder what you'd have had at top wack? The valvers hit 80 in third without redlining it. I guess you were a fair way off 60 in second? I reckon it would of topped out at about 120mph  And you're after 150 odd?
