Cleaned and painted the brake calipers and carriers today. Do seem to have consumed a fair volume of brake dust during the cleaning though :( Just need to get the new seal kits for the front calipers and install them, buy disks, pads, brake lines and solid lines now. :)

It's a crossover for the speakers. Splits the signal for the tweeters and main speakers. Cars looking good, that old matrix was pretty skanky....

That looks amazing. Do you work for Pixar? Where abouts are you in the country? Might just be easier for you to find a local with a 16v who's car you can look at? If you're in Hampshire for example, give me a shout... :)

To be honest, I never knew the cars I did well enough for a proper before and after comparison, but unmapped, I think they'll be roughly the same as standard. The noise is different though.

That looks like the rare sort that exposes himself through the window of new vw coupes. Apparently if you cuddle it a lot and buy it beer it will behave nicely.

Have you hit the pipe fittings with a hammer? I always do, and it makes me slightly happier about the process.

Who is it you work for? I did learn a bit about NDT when I was doing a degree in materials engineering at Swansea a few years ago, but I've forgotten most of what I learnt :( Don't miss the hours I spent in mettalurgy hand polishing nimonic alloy samples though.

Yeah, look up NDT techniques. There's some clever stuff including the use of the flourescent gipper above, x rays and ultrasonic testing.

Well. VW didn't specify service intervals on the charger as far as I know, and as long as the oil has been changed regularly, revs kept low until the engine was warm and the charger not stressed, it's quite possible the charger has done that many miles and hasn't had issues.

I assume that the lines are the NDT fluid in the cracks showing up under the black light thing, not scratches.

Apparently someone on here said it was supposed to be for an oil pressure gauge we didn't get in the UK.

Swapping it for an R32. Supercharger. Turbot. Putting it in a lighter car.

Yeah, in normal circumstances the difference probably wouldn't be ideal. But, Jonny boy's not got much money, there are other things to fix and it might not be the issue just yet, therefore I'd just get on and use it until there is a genuine issue with the head gasket. Oh, and we've had 2 pages on a water pump swap. Could you imagine how long his thread would become if he did the head gasket? :lol:

Are they not within the VW specs then? I'm sure they allow for a far bigger diference across the cylinders?
