Hello Just done a load of work on my VR amongst the things I changed was the rear engine mount. Plus points: I have greatly reduced engine movement Negative points: seem to have a lot more vibration now? I have a VT front mount fitted already but I remember there being some kind of trick like letting the engine idle for a while with out the mount nuts tightened up the let them settle in? True???? Thanks Dav

Cool Just use a sharp chisel, should come off clean

Engine is being put togeather, thanks for your help. Dav.

May have to rethink the raceware, the s3 internals were supposed to be strong enough, but one banana rod later...
-
Nope not for a VR, J.E direct replacement forged pistons for a BAM (s2) engine, Pauter Rods and Race Ware fasteners. Best get the block checked by a machine shop to make sure, even though the honing looks like new…
-
The thrust side is still showing all the original honing marks. The engine was form and S2 and it bent a conrod after fitting a larger turbo, thus the move to forged internals. Thanks for the info.
-
Thanks chaps The bores still has all the honing marks and is in good condition, so do you think it will still need re-honing when fitting the forged pistons?
-
Thanks Just the same as you would any nornal rings?
-
Quick question, do forged pistons require running in? Thanks Dav

Got round to having a look in the tank and found that the pump was not located in the socket so when I took a corner the pick up was not in the fuel resulting in fuel starvation. I have also noticed that my fuel gauge is a lot steadier now, it used to fluctuate a bit especially when going up/down hill. Seems better now…

It is, (OBD2) but it’s all sorted now I was trying to perform the throttle adjustment with the engine running silly mistake really. I found out later that you can this with the ignition on but not running, you can hear the throttle go through the motions and the end result is a much smoother running engine. Thanks for your help. D.

Crasher, I have cleaned the throttle body and put it back, it was quite dirty in there and the intake pipe also had some oil in it. I tried to find “Basic Adjustment mode, group 098.” but I could not locate it. I also went through the basic setting but I could not find anything to set up the throttle body. I am using VAG 1551 to do my diagnostics, am I missing something??? Thanks Dav.

Thanks for the reply, Cleared the code and it cam right back?

Just had my VR Highline Vag-com’ed and it gave this error code. Idling speed regulation adaptation limit (add exceeded) Fault code 00533 Anyone know what I can do about this? thanks D.

My buddy has cleaned it all off, and is trying to pop his head under the bonnet a least once a day, someone suggested he re-torque the head but think that’s a no go. Any thoughts… He’s not happy though because he just spent about £750.00 to get it through the MOT (new rack and other steering related bits) when I mentioned a the head gasket he mentioned blowing up the car…
-
Will get him to give it a wipe, and keep an eye on it. So replacing the gasket is the only option, how much would tat cost? Thanks for reply’s dav.
-
Exactly what I was thinking, thing is he don’t know how long it has been there… He’s not the kind of chap that looks under the bonnet often…
