  2. Are basic settings as important on OBD-2 cars as it is on OBD-1? Is the Procedure the same? Thanks Dav.

    Top mounts

When turning the steering wheel in my MK3 I can hear a creaking sound, so I looked in the engine bay as for some reason I suspected the top mounts. I could see them move and the sound seemed to come from the moving mounts, so are the knackered or do the just need to be tightened, because I don’t think they should move should they? Thanks D.
  5. I need to find a supplier of 35mm exhaust valves for an 8 valve head. Can anyone point me in the right direction Thanks Dav

    VR Spark Plugs

Order placed 12 BKR5EKU at £52.32 for both cars. Instead of £97.29 fro BKR5EKUP from spark plugs .co.uk, god knows what VW would have charged. Thanks again Kev.

Thought so, VW don’t sell the standard BKR5EKU any more according to them they have been superseded by the BKR5EKUP. thanks Kev.

    VR Spark Plugs

Hello I now have a Golf VR6 Highline and a VR6 Corrado (never enough VR's) And I need to change the plugs on both cars. I have had a look on Spark plugs.co.uk and they list different plugs for each car. Golf AAA engine: BKR5EKUP(Standard/Platinum) or BKR5EIX (Iridium) Corrado ABV engine: BKR5EKU (Standard/Platinum) or BKR5EIX (Iridium) What’s that all about? I have read that on the Corrado there is no need to use the Iridium plugs and that the standard plats are the ones to use, but can I use these on the Golf VR? There is a price difference Golf VR:BKR5KUP (Standard/Platinum) £6.90 Corrado VR: BKR5KU (Standard/Platinum) £3.71 BKR5EIX (Iridium plugs) are £6.99 for both. Is there such a difference between the two engines or is this just a load of crap and should I just go for the BKR5KU (Standard/Platinum) £3.71 for both cars. Thanks Dav

    VR engine mounts

Fair enough, As I said there does not seem to be any difference in performance between the two and currently I can’t feel any extra vibration in either of my cars that have them fitted so for me the difference is purely cosmetic, so to rephrase my statement above to “Superior Finish” rather than “Superior Build” .

I also agree that the VF-Engineering front engine mount has superior build than the Vibratechnics one. I have tried both (VF) in C-VR and the and (VT) in the Mk3-VR, there does not seem to be any difference in the way they perform, but if I had to buy another one I would most defiantly go for the VF mount over the VT also the VF comes with full instruction handy if you have never fitted one before and the nuts they supply are of the nyloc (sp) type. All small differences over what are essentially the same product but it matters to me.
  15. Hello I have just resolved the same issue with my insurer, I have a factory/dealer fit Alarm fitted to my Highline, my insurance company also said that the car would not be covered for theft and said that the only way it would be covered is for me to provide them with an alarm Health check. You can get this done at any professional alarm fitters. My key fob is the same as the : SA1072 on the scorpion website, and I also found out that the alarm I have is a 5001T which is Thachem (sp) approved. All of this only cost £47.00 a lot less that a new alarm. Hope this helps. D.
  16. Can I use Camber settings of -0.9 and Toe +0.05 on a Golf VR6 without any adverse effects? I have found via the search that this is what the Corrado Vr6 likes so would this be cool for a Golf VR6? Thanks Dav.
  17. Nice info, worth a shot
  18. Funny indeed, This problem started after I had my fuel pump replaced, and it only happens when the fuel gauge is near the quarter tank mark, most of the time I don’t let it go bellow half a tank. Although sometimes the laziness gets the best of me and that’s when it happens, could avoid it by keeping it above half, but it should not really be happening at all. Does it only happen when the fuel level is near the quater tank with you Paul1? I am going to have a look at the pump this weekend to check the connections.
  19. Ok, so I am not the only one who has a C that suffers from this kind of problem, mine seems to loose power when turning right also, feels like fuel starvation???
  20. kevHaywire, Did you get 25L of this, if you did does it come with a pump? thanks D.
  21. I might get some form that "Oilman" man, but not sure what to get?
  22. I’m about to pick up a Highline that’s also been run on Mobile1 - 0/w40 from new, I suppose that it would be a good move to change the oil to a different grade then? D.

    lambada

Hello If this clicking you mention is coming from the fuse box/relay area, the next time it happens try to locate its point of origin, if it turns out to be a relay try giving it a few taps and if it starts up them you may have found the cause of your problem. I only mention this because I was having a similar problem with my Golf, and a mechanic said that there was a problem with my fuse box (which I did not believe) it turned out to a relay which according to ETKA was a power relay, got hold of a new Vag replacement plugged it in and so far (3 months) no probs. Hope this helps. D.

    redex??

Tank your car up to the max and take it for a good long drive, I did this in my VR last Sunday and it has made a real big difference. I drove all the way to Swansea (to see a Rallye) you don’t have to go that far but a good hour or two should do, I poured in some injector cleaner filled with some decent fuel and set off. I stayed at about 80 mph most of the way with the occasional blast up to about 100-110 mph. Prior to this the VR felt very sluggish and a bit rough and was heavy on fuel, but now its running great the MPG is back to were it should be the motor is a lot quieter and it seems to rev a lot cleaner. All good, Hope this helps D.
