vondribbley, From a mate of mine who runs a garage, they specialise in VW restorations mostly air cooled (big bucks) but one of the chaps is a water cooled expert. The work is good the price is good. I’m sure he would do your work for a similar price, but coming down from Bristol sounds like a bit of a mission to me.

Have had my car back form the garage for about a week now have had the following done: New timing chain along with all the associated guides and tensioners. New clutch and all associated parts, also a new crank oil seal. New set of tappets. New rocker cover gasket. New inlet manifold gaskets. New sump gasket. New thermostat. New coolant (G12+) Oil and filter change. At first I thought that I was going a bit over board but now that the car is back all I can say to you other VR drivers out there is just do it. I’m sure your car deserves it, my car is whisper quite when I am just cooling out, and makes a sweet (sweeter) noise when I press the loud peddle. :D Still running standard exhaust and induction, cant wait to get an aftermarket pipe and filter kit on it now. All cost about £850, as usual the labour was more than the parts, at £500 and £350 respectively. Remember VR’s need love too…

Hello chaps Just had a chat with a guy who preformed the test and yes the car was not running. He also thinks that if it were faulty the car would not run, or would run but very badly Thanks again for all the tech support chaps. :) On another note, I have decided to change the tappets in my VR, are there any other things that I should consider changing along with them? .
-
Thanks Scott, quality tech support. Will get it checked again. Don’t want to shell out any more dosh just yet, just ordered all the parts I need for sorting the cam chain will probably do clutch at the same time & crank oil seal. :( this thing drinks money faster than fule. :x

Hello all Are there any carrado owners in the Middlesex/Ealing/Southall/Hayes/Uxbridge/Hounslow area. Are there any meetings being held or arranged? Also are ther any mechanics well versed in the ways of the VR6 in the above area’s

Thanks guys. Must have been the previous owner, I am well up on it about not over filling with oil. About the chain, I have read so many different views about what to change :? bit confused. Would I be right in thinking that, the upper tensioner and plastic guide rails need to be replaced to cure this, and this can be done without tacking off the head, as they can be reached from the side? My VR is a K Reg 93 model if this makes any difference. All help/info would be greatly appreciated Thanks VR dudes.

Timing chain/crank seals ? :? were about is that and could this explain why my chain is a bit noisey? Question: if I had to replace this would I have to drop the gear box?

Have noticed an oil leek from the bottom of my VR(drip-drip) :( not sure where it could be coming from. Have had a look at the oil filter housing and it looks ok, have also looked and tightened the sump nut. Where else can the leek come from? The sump? What are the common leek points on a VR, or aren’t there any and is my engine F**KED  Please help VR dudes.

how much have you been quoted? and what kind of tail pipe are you after?
-
Well it seems that a lot of you rate and like SuperSprint exhaust systems, and a lot of you would it like to get hold of one. I did post a query the other day about them. But no one has replied back. (why?) :? READ BELLOW Was thinking about changing the exhaust and would like to know if anyone has fitted a Super Sprint exhaust system, (as I can get good prices on SuperSprint items) and what kind of results you have had. Would also like to know if it made and improvement and weather it fitted well. I will most probably be replacing my exhaust as soon as the current standard V.A.G item begins to get knackered. Until then I would like to extend an offer to all those that are interested in getting a SuperSprint system. I know that I can get them a fair bit cheaper than retail and I would like to pass this saving on. Anyone interested just drop me a line. Thankx Dav.
