Saw my MPG's go above 27mpg today for the first time in ages, suppose all the parts that I have swapped over have made a difference after all.

Ady_G, I was glad to have it running too, but it did not last for long, i think i ran for two days. The Story: Me and the wife get up on Saturday morning and have a fry up and then i head out the GSF to get a new Rota arm Cap and exchange my old and crappy BBT leads for something, anything better. Got a new set BURU Leads exchanged under warranty, i know that these are not the best but much better than the crappy BBT's. Anyway got home and swapped all of new kit over - started her up and everything was cool the motor even sounded quieter? By this time her indoors had got ready and we headed out to do a spot of shopping in Kingston, the VR drove like a champ all the way there and even the wife was impressed. Parked up and went shopping returned a few hours later and tried to start the car and tried again and again……you get message. After my anger subsided I pulled out the AA card and called for assistance, the AA man turned up within 10min’s (got the wife to call – it helps) and within 5 min’s he had the motor started it turned out to be the “Ignition Coil†he just so happened to have one in stock and charged me £85 for it, and said it was a common problem they fail all the time, mine must have had an intermittent fault. I really am beginning to believe that these VR’s are insane evil creatures with a wicked sense of humour. Running real good now though…. Thanks for reading sorry about the length. Thanks D.

Looking back it should have been one of the first things I should have checked, but looking back I should have done a lot of things differently.... Anyway, I was seriously thinking of selling it and getting something like an Audi S6/S2 Avant or even a really mint MK2 16v if I could find one, but I know I would miss the VR. Lucky I have a nice reliable MK2 8V GTI to fall back on, I would have been in the SH*T HOUSE big time with out it, got to love the 8V gti they just keep on going. First thing I am going to do this evening is filling her up and go for a nice long drive. D.

Ady_G, Reggit, most defiantly depressing, I was missing it at first, then it just started to piss me off. But I do have some good news the geezer that I have looking at my car has got it running and it turns out that the problem was wait for it...the fuel pump, but even though I would have changed this my self, I did not because it was still priming and so I thought it was fine, but according to him it was a little out of the ordinary as sometimes it would allow/pump fuel and sometimes it would not, and it would also allow/pump fuel but at a very low pressure. All of this could make it look like it was a whole manor of other things such as Lambda/Engine Speed sensor/fuel pump relay/ECU relay etc.... Feel a bit lame as changing a fuel pump was almost a routine thing for me back in my MK1 Gti days. I do hope that this is the end of my running problems…for a while at least. Note: “Check Fuel Pressure” Thanks, and I hope this helps. D.

I thought that might be a problem, but as long as it fits… The only reason I have to go down this route is that for some stupid reason Supersprint only do the DTM, Twin Magnum (90 mm) and EVO back box design for the Golf 16V now, but still do the better designs for the G60 golf?
-
So from the sounds of it I could fit a Golf G60 Exhaust system to 16V Golf, but I may have some fitting problems but it will fit? Thanks D.

Ady_G, I am in the same boat as you mate, have not driven my VR for about 4 weeks, and could be more. I have also changed a whole load of parts too with no results. Towed it to a garage last night and letting them deal with it now. It ran fine for two whole years and then played up big time....
-
Are the fittings, bracket wise the same on a G60 MK2 as they are on a MK2 16v? Thanks D.

Changed mine last week and I used a 22mm for the job, Try to get hold of some Roast-off-rust by Wurth, (got this from VW) spray and allow to penetrate for about 15-mins it came off easy, it is very tight down there hope this helps D.

Changing mine today mate, it’s a simple but slightly awkward job to do, It held in place by a single hex bolt and it is situated just under the trio of sensors on the front of the engine block. You need to jack the car up and get it on some axle stands, undo and replace, need lots of light as its a bit dark down there. hope this helps D.

Hello I need the part numbe for the Engine Speed Sensor please. Thanks D.
-
I haven’t but I believe it was done a while ago It might be a worth a try, I would try anything to get it running right.

Well changed the Lambda probe last night and took it out for a drive, and it still cut out on me… Now when I tried to restart it would just turn over but not catch, and when it did catch it would for a brief moment and then die, if it did hold the revs would just rise and fall for a while. Sometimes if I tried to steady the rev's by pressing the accelerator a touch it would cut out and sometimes it wont? It would also seem to run really ruff and weak for a while, and then when it sort of cleared its throat it would run fine…it really is beginning to do my head in now I feel like doing a “Monty Python” it Kev I also tried to run it without the Black air temp sensor connected, and it just seems to run a little rough and does not rev as nice as it normally would, is the right result/ D.

thnaks mate will try that tonight.

My VR is still cutting out, don’t drive it any more I only do when testing the changes that I have made. So far I have changed the Temp sensor, Fuel Pump relay, ECU relay and the Idle Control valve. This morning I picked up a brand new Lambda Probe From VAG, which cost me £55. Hopefully this will cure it, if it don’t I hope it will sort my poor MPG issue about which I described in a previous post. Is anything that I need to be aware of when replacing this part or is it as straight forward as it looks…. Will have it VAGCOM'd on Saturday morning either way, but suspect it wont show any error codes as it didn’t the last time I had it checked. Thanks D.

Audioscape moulded sub enclosure - update 21/02
dav replied to Kevin Bacon's topic in ICE 'n' Secure
Hello Kev A question mate, I have a Focal Poly-Kevlar 27K in my Golf at the moment in a Focal box which is ported, and from the looks if it the Sub in the picture on the first page of this post also looks like a 27K, (might be wrong) but if it is would that enclosure be ported to suite the sub? If so I might just have one, and transfer all my audio form golf to Carrado, if I get the car running right….. Thanks D. -
I gave the VR a service about 2.5K miles ago but I will try and change the plugs and get some new leads if I can this weekend worth a try i suppose. I rember a friend had a similar problem with his 16V golf and it turned out to be the Dizzy. Any thoughts?
-
I have just got hold of some Wurth Lube type stuff with PTFE, I will give this a try. I have a feeling that it might be somthing else though - somthing more expensive!
-
Already done that a few times. Its time to change and see i suppose.
-
oh.. forgot that how much do they go for? thanks D.

Mine is still doing this, well I think so because I have not driven it for about two weeks, it a bit dangerous and a right pain when it happens. I have changed the ECU Relay, the Fuel Pump Relay, and the Blue temp sender, Plus ECU resets. The problem still persists I have also had the car on VAG COM (snap-on) with no error codes. I will need to try some of the more expensive parts now. How much is a MAF for a 93-K VR? Thanks D

The motor has cut out four times this morning and twice yesterday on the way home. Yesterday was dangerous as it cut out right on top of a flyover and, caused a load of trouble traffic wise. Anyway I changed the fuel pump relay on Saturday I know that the Fuel pump relay is not at fault as after I swapped this over I took drive a and it cut out after 5 minutes. On Sunday and gave the car a good going over i.e. I checked the plugs - all were ok, found a small rocker gasket leak around plug number 1 nothing major though. Cleaned the ISV and Throttle body and checked over the HT leads and the dizzy. And finished off with an ECU Reset, took the car for a drive and it all seem cool until yesterday night and this morning. When it does cut out it happens all of sudden the power seems to just fade away. The revs slowly die and even if I try to put my foot on the accelerator to pick the revs up I get know action and it continues to die. Could it be the dizzy, could it be the engine speed sensor, could it be the ECU relay. I don’t know. I know that Carrado owner ship is often a love hate relationship, but this might just end in divorce!! Thanks in advance for any help Dav.

Thnaks dr_mat, How many relays are ther that could cause this kind of problem? D.

Hello chaps I have a bit of a problem with my VR, It has started to cut out on a regular basis under all conditions. It is actually beginning to get a bit dangerous now, as it happened the other day while driving down a dual carriage way and a nutter almost slammed in to the back of me. I have had it on a Diagnostic device (Snap-on) and it showed no errors, I thought the ECU was supposed to log all faults? I thought that it would be the engine speed sensor, but I am now beginning / hoping to think that it may be a relay of some sorts. Should I get it re-checked on a proper VAG-COM or is that Snap-on tool just as good. Help Needed. Thanks Dav
