    Earth Cables

Hello, I need/want to replace some of the Earth cables on my Golf Gti 8V, I would like to know what kind of Cable to use and where to get it from. (Halfords) I did read on the Vortex about a guy who made up a set for is VR6 and he used 2-gauge car audio power cable to good effect, is this wise? Thanks D.

    vr6 dizzy cap ?

Its quite easy mate, just the same as changing any other dizzy cap. I got mine from GS&F as VW was out of stock. Just unclip it and remove the black cover from the actual cap (all will become apparent when you take the cap off) and place it on the new cap. The Black cover has all the numbers which correspond to which number HT lead needs to be plugged in so you can’t really go wrong. Put it all back together the same way you took it apart. Remember the little earth lead type thing that plugs in to the side of the cap. It’s also a good time to change the rota arm, if it’s the original it will be glued on. I removed the on my VR with a pair of mole grips. hope this helps. D.
  4. They seem pretty good, took the golf for a good rip through the back roads of Buckinghamshire the other day and I can say for sure that they are better than the yoko-539's I was running, and much quieter than the old Exalto's too.
  5. you might have to modifiy the plug on the Aux Water pump as i had to, nothing major just a different type of plug. but as yours is an M plate you should be cool.
  6. I have just fitted Michelin Pilot Exalto 2's to my Golf and i have to say they are danm good in the wet and dry. dont look as good as the Exalto 1, but looks aint what its about. i have T1s on my VR and they seem cool to me, wear out quick tho.
  7. bit steep but they are good, i can get better deals on the actual exhausts. a lot of engineering in the maifolds and that costs money :(

    manuals

maximus2029 Hope this helps, I found this a while ago covers the engines from 1992: 1.8L 8V & the 2.0L 16V. Cars: cabriolet, Carrado, Fox, Golf, Jetta and Passat. Pretty good covers a lot. I have suspension and electrical systems too some ware. Mods should these be posted on the How To section? D.
  9. sorry its taken me so long to get back with prices i have been off sick, and only just got round to it. hope this helps. mrbeige, The price for the 20-16v exhaust manifold from TSR is £304+Vat = £357.20. i can get these for about £300.00, but i have called a few places and they all say that ther are for left hand drive cars and are very hard to fit to UK cars, but it can be done. kevhaywire, the price for the VR6 Exhaust manifold is £523+Vat = 614.52. i can get these for about £500.00, again they say that these are for left hand drive cars, but the VR6 one fits ok. Bit of a shame really. Dav.
  10. Hello just rang my mate at who can the SuperSprint stuff, but he is not at work until monday, sorry guys, i will update you on the prices as soon a he is back at work.
  11. I was thinking of changing my exhaust system, but when I had a look under my motor the other day when it was getting its MOT (passed first time) the original one look mint, are they SS or mild? I have seen a VR SuperSprint manifold and it looks like a piece of modern art, would love one of the just for the under hood “bling” factor.
  12. I will find out about the Manifolds/exhaust, should have a price for you tomorrow. I know for sure the manifolds are SS and the exhaust systems are aluminised mild steel. They last for ages and do give good results. I had a SS manifold on my MK1 16V it was a work of art.
  13. i can get good deals on SuperSprint stuff. :)
  14. thats a bit of a scam, just noticed i have got my first star, celebratory Pint :)
  15. thanks Kev, your are the man. top bloke, geezza,etc.etc.
  16. cool thanks Kev, does the gearbox mount add a lot to engine movement?
  17. Hello chaps, i need some help… I need to know how to change the rear two engine mounts and what torque settings to use. I have used the search functions and can not find what I need, I will not be getting the VT (vibra-tech) one yet…just OE at the moment. I did find that I may be able to use a golf diesel gear box mount the solid one, is this true. Please help me, the wife is driving the car and I fear for the engine as there is still a bit of movement, I have already changed the front mount. Lets just say that her gear changes are not subtle…. Thanks D.
  18. just rang my mate at VW and he say the £3620.83 Plus a sur-charg £1520.00  :x

    VR not well?

It does feel like a fuelling issue now that you mention it. Have you tried to clean your MAF like the 18T boys do? They clean them with isopropylene (spelling), by removing them and placing in a bag with some “ISO” in it and giving it a good shake and then leave it to dry out . I may try this. Also do you reckon it could be a fuel blockage? Dirty filter or something? "Daewoos" i dont think that i could do that, id rather walk or take the buss

    VR not well?

Shite , oh well may as well live with it. Just another one of those VR idiosyncrasies I have to live with I suppose. nice one Kev. Thanks D.

    VR not well?

The VR has started to act a bit funny lately, not always but every now and then. Symptoms : slightly more erratic idle than normal, occasional stalling, and the most worrying is that it seems to bogg down in first after coming to a stop and then pulling off. Only lasts until it hits about 2K-2.5K and then it seems to run fine. It has also been a bit noisy, well a little more than usual. I am going to check under the rocker cover and have a look at the chains and tensioners even though they were replaced last year, mostly out of curiosity. And I might change the tensioner for the new type. Any ideas as to what could cause the symptoms above? Thanks D

    My car,

Thanks guys, Its in pretty good nick generally got the odd little ding (car park type thing) and the rear passenger arch has a dent in it. Which seem to be common, the previous owner decided to sell it when his wife made that body it mod... Has low-ish mileage 86K at the moment. Need to give it a respray, that’s the next thing on the list.

    My car,

yep she called at 8:50am and they turned up at 10:20am, at least they got it running again. She said shall I just leave it parked on the side of the road and pick it up later. To which I responded no bloody way, stay with the motor at all times.
