Over-revving on gear change (and now tighten throttle cable)
dav replied to Jim's topic in Engine Bay
I had a similar problem with my MK1 but it turned out to be the little O-ring on the idle adjustment thing on the throttle body which had perished and was letting air in. Symptoms were the same as yours, it would go away when hot, I suppose because the rubber would expand when up to temperature and sealing the gap. It would only do it at mid level revs at first as the vacuum would be greater than at idle, but after a while it would do it then too. Don’t really know if the throttle body adjustment screw on a G60 is the same or similar that of a MK1 (should be) Just a thought, could be cheep fix. D. -
this should help dude. D.

the non-striped out ones are plenty fast, and the C-VR6 must weigh twice as much as that little motor -
As long as it don’t Squat, Dive and Roll for the nation the like the MK4 did then I think that it’s a step “back” in the right direction. V6 with turbo would be good tho.

Your fuel figures are getting me down :(
-
fla, I was a little bit vague about my location, in am in the Hayes Middlesex Area. Filled the motor up with BP Ultimate will have a look and see what I mileage I get, so I can do a before and after comparison. "BP Ultimate is getting expensive" Stage One will be the Temp sendor, Stage Two will be the Lambda probe. Stage Three….don’t really want to go there. Thanks D.

theRuler, Have a look under your car and below the down pipe you should see a Plug/Probe type thing which is fitted into the exhaust pipe it should have two wires coming out of it, which should have some kind of heat protecting cover on it. If it has not it may have messed with hope this helps. Off for the weekend now, have agood weekend guys. Thanks. D.

Oakley, "As far as I have seen when I had this problem, It gradually decreased fuel consumption and then all of a sudden I was getting between 17 and 23 MPG which was harsh. If it is your Lamda, your C will also most likely (well in my case...) stall sometimes for no reason when you come to a stop and the Idling becomes erratic. " That sound very similar to what I am experiencing, think that I will change the temp sensor first then the Lambda, Lambda: £77.14 Temp: £9.42 I live in the Middlesex area, will travel for Vag-Com until I get my own.
-
Roger Blassberg, where is the temp sensor located? thanks D
-
Ford, Just read through the thread that you linked me to, nice one mate. Thought it might be the Lambda probe, but would the Cam position sensor affect it too. any other thoughts? thanks D.
-
Hello, I have a quick question for the VR6 Crew, Q What will contribute to fuel consumption gradually getting worse? I gave the Motor a service not long ago, Plugs, Filters, Oil .etc. It used to deliver around 26-30 MPG on the daily drive, now its about 19-23 MPG. Thanks D.

bigbluec, You can make them your self, I have recently made one from 4 gauge power cable (car audio stuff) and I used some gold plated terminals, also from a car audio store. I made one from the alternators to the starter and then on to the battery, this was for my Golf but the principle should be the same for a Carrado. You could just buy some from Halfords pretty sure they will sell a generic power cable. Hope this helps D.

kevhaywire, will ahve another chat the man in the know and will let you know. mrbeige, i think that it is 4-2-1but i will find out foe sure
-
I am gonna do this on the Golf and use it as a guinea pig, and then do the same for the VR6- but there are loads more on that motor. Thanks for the tips guys.

Thanks mate, that wil be my mission this weekend. got 5m of 2 gauge to use after i sold my amp and head unit. thanks D.
