I thought the 288s would clear most rims? Including speedos.

I did tie rod ends and ball joints. Also, consider the wishbone bushes and ARB bushes. If you need to change any of these you'll have to get alignment re-done. Bearings are another one I wish I'd done before I had my alignment done.

Yep, I had mine aligned, and didn't go very fast in the meantime! Sorry, not at home, so don't have part numbers

Except in age. I'd be doing the other side too mate. A breaker bar really helps, I got a metre long bar, so I had no probs undoing the bolts. 8)

You'd want her on axle stands maybe? If you're not going to move it, as you'll get flat spots on your tyres.

I used the ones it suggests in the 312mm set up, goodridge ones (banjo), as I had to put my speedos back on and the calipers are the same for the 288s and the 312s. Mk2 -> Mk4 Goodridge hose kit

You should be able to tell if its 288 or 280 by the size of the pads that will fit in.
