they look like the right ones to me. Not sure if Gaz's are recaro's from those pics. Look like heat standard seats as i can't see a motor at the front of the subframe.

nice looking enginebay! -
you get 3months trial on both sides. Think its actual employment law.

just noticed, no windscreen wipers.

spent about £400ish on chrome so far. Add a nought on if you don't want to get your hands dirty. Think i get mates rate though as the guys there love having a go at chroming something different and alittle challenging. Greg (boss) umm's and arrh's but the shop floor guys are always up for it.

likewise, probably end up as neighbours in the nut house in the near future

Hmm. I dropped mine and it fell apart. Lucky accident, long as it doesn't on the road!!

well here another update for ya' (btw, hear your PVW feature is lined up, can't wait!! There doing a Part 2 on mine next year too) Finish and polished the front cross member. All seam welded around the edges. The spot welds are filled in and i ground out all the weld where the two half of the cross member joint infront of the engine mount cup and rebuilt with fresh metal all blended in. Quite please with how much better it looks. Heres a another pic next to the chrome subframe so you can see the standard of polishing required on a steel part before it can be chromed. Not much in it. Also polished the VF gearbox mount. Its is possible to strip down this part so it will be chromed too. Finally, stripped the eibach anti-roll bars down to bar metal for re-powder coating in bright red.

Ok, i've bought a pair of VDO guages. One boost guage and one oil pressure guage. My idea is to strip down my set of factory Aux Guage (the ones fitted at the bottom of the centre consule) and get a metal plate screen printed with the markings of the oil pressure and and boost guage and fit it into the factory Aux gauge housing. The new guages will be mounted to the rear of the metal plate. Hope i've explained it well enought. First if all is there anyone that on here that can do screen printing? I can do the artwork in any format you like. Also anyone know if i pull the needles off the boost and oil pressure guage so the pins can be pushed through the screen printed new face, how to i reset them to the stop position? The aim is to have a factory aux guage pod with a boost guage rather than a Volt meter. Best way i can think of, of mounting a boost guage without it look stuck on. cheers

Good stuff, that the type of answer i was looking for thanks. I'll see if can get full rallye cross member. Its there a direct after market replacement intercooler for a rallye which uses the factory mounting points? Heard the VAG intercooler new from VW is very expensive.

Well impressed

Can't afford to start another project till i've go my car up and running again. Couple of years before another project i think.

thanks Jay. Certainly going to be interesting to see if time and effort are a match for the big money Oxford Edition are putting into there new cars.

Thats whats surprised me the most, just how bad some of the factory parts are and how much extra strength can be added. Highly recommend any one refurbing a car to seam weld subframe. The areas where the wishbones mount are shocking. Not going to chrome the oil cooler, just the sandwich plate. Still bit more sanding to do on the front cross member but its getting there now. The new metal is blending in nicely. Just hard going trying to get out all the pic holes. Think is probably impossible with weld. Decided to have a couple of days off sanding and painted inside the subframe with hammeright black gloss spray. Constrast between the black gloss and chrome looks really good. Well chuffed.

There's a set 0f 8x17 BBS RS on Oxford Editions forum. Asking price is a ridicious £2000 though

I used to run 8x17 wheels with 32 offset, 205/40 tyres and standard arches. Never rubbed with a 50mm drop. Pirelli do a 195/40/17 tyre which will give you more breathing space, not that you'll need it.

Schumacher, the way he turns a car in on the track is breath taking.

Bit of a progress report, rear beam is take ages hoped to post up finished pics by now but i'm still welding and grinding, spotting little pits, welding them up and grinding again. Really hope the finished item is worth the effort. Between this and the subframe the gearbox was easy. Here's a pic, you can see how the various parts of the beam are now starting to blend together to form a clean solid like part and the finish is starting to come through. Here the custom Mocal Oil Cooler, i've polished up the sandwish plate which makes it look like a much better quality part. They look nasty in the cast factory finish. Plan is to make two plates to cover the openings the have a bash at chroming it. My chromers refused to chrome the front cross member due to solution entrapment so i had to drill a couple of extra holes in it. Also took the oppertunity to improve it more by smoothing out the spot welds. Pic below show one side already welded and smoothed. Here's the other side in progress. The welds are then ground back and next the two sides will be hand sanded until they are smooth then polished and off for chroming. Also seam welded the cup for the front engine mount and to the side of it i'll welded in a whole section (where the spot welds were) so the shape of the cross member is more uniform. So a lot to do still as i'm not cutting any corners and having a good think about every piece of the car as i work on it and how it can be improved. Doubt alot of people will spot half the mods but they all add to the finish even if you can't put you finger on whats changed.

Thinking the same myself, the issues are you'd want a minimum of 5mm of aluminium under the bolt to mount to the hub leaving a head size of 5-7mm max. Not much, also no real room for a counter sunk bolt to ensure each hole self centres. I'd say weld and redrill the alloys, not on a pillar drill!!! Machining centre only.

thanks for the offer. Found this on trader, looking pretty sweet. Awesome wheel choice!!! Not standard tho' Can't help myself!! Looks so right.
