  1. Hi Mat, yes I do have a VR6 - oops sorry for not putting that in. I asked them about the ECU and they said they very rarely go wrong.... I guess it could be that though. That's an excellent tip about the temp sensors mate - I'll mention that and see if they can have a go. They reckon they've checked the exhaust manifolds, but I did wonder as they said they had in a pretty flipant way! Any ideas about garages? my pocket is under strain!
  2. My car's being looked at by some guys at a VW specialists who really seem to know what they are doing, but are a bit stumped. I've got the usual lumpy idle, cutting out, twinned with overly rich running. I had the car at Surrey Roaling road back in August and they told me that the air fuel ratio was shot and that I probably needed my MAF looked at. So far I've had my ISV replaced, Lambda replaced, had a new air mass meter, new fuel pressure switch, all 6 injectors refurbished to take care of poor spray patterns etc etc. All your usual stuff really. I asked them to check the cam timing yesterday and I need to give them a ring to check the results. If the timing's out, and it's not the sensor, then they warned me that my timing chain could be knackered, but to get to it and change it is big bucks - at least another grand. I love my car, and I really want it back on the road, but I'm wondering if I'm throwing good money after bad. I bought the car for 3600 12 months ago, and already have spent 1500 or so getting it fixed. I'm already looking at a bill of a grand for this visit, and if the timing is off and I get that sorted as above it will be another grand. And even then , that might not be the end of my problems. Whilst I doubt I could have had as much fun with 7 grand on a car as with my Corrado, I do need something reliable. My missus thinks I'd be mad to get another 'rado, but also mad if I keep chucking money at it. My missus's car, which used to be mine is a 95 golf mk3 and is considerably more reliable. Is Corrado ownership always so full of problems? What do you think my chances are of having more problems after this visit to the garage? If it is not the timing, what else can it be? Can anyone recommend somewhere in Surrey or near by where I can get this car looked at by people who really know Corrados? Cheers for any suggestions!
  3. Hi Gang, Assuming the repairs at the garage mean it's worthwhile keeping my car I want to treat it to a brand new leather retrim. Currently my doors are the standard cloth cards, but I'd like to get them looking like the padded leather. I aksed the trimmer what he does, and he said he usually just cuts a bit of leather the same as the material that is already on the door card, but what I want is a more OEM look. Has anyone any tips / ideas how I could provide a trimmer with a better idea of what I want, given that I don't have leather at the mo? Please could anyone send me a good quality photo of a leather doorcard? If possible I think the paler colours might show up better! Thanks :) Mark
  4. I wish I knew someone who could show me how to do all this stuff to my engine - I wouldn't know where to start! I've got a Candy White 'Rado, and would love to get it looking tidy under the 'hood' - bonnet :)
  5. Cheers guys, I think I'll get myself down the shop and see which I prefer the look of. It looks like there are merits in both of them. If only Hella made them....
  6. I'd like to fit some clear / red rear lights to my white Corrado and I'm not sure which are best. What do you all think? Which will be easier to fit (I'd prefer to just pull out the old ones and plug in new ones, so the ones closest to standard will be easier for me as I'm crap at most jobs in my car! Cheers, Mark
  7. Hi, My Corrado has 'Min' and 'Max' buttons for the air con. Can anyone tell me what the 'Max' button does as I can't tell the difference! Is this a 'recirculate' button that just reprocesses the air in the cabin? I want to find out so I can try using the Wynns air con cleaner. Thanks, Mark
  8. Hi All, I've just been washing the car and the 'Corrado' Badge came off at the back. It seems that I've lost those blue things that hold the badge on tight. Any idea if I can get new blue bits at the stealers? If not who else might do them? I don't want to just glue the badge on if I can help it. Cheers, Mark
  9. With my car I'd lost fuel pressure too, I'm not sure if I mentioned that in the earlier post. The lack of fuel pressure could be a problem - it was part of my problem. If you are finding that your car always two turns of the key to start it could mean that your car is not maintaining fuel pressure (fuel pressure should stay in the Corrado, and if it doesn't then the first crack on the starter will get the fuel moving, and the second means it has something to ignite). Inconsistent fuel pressure can cause kangerooing and cutting out. Get them to check for this, and listen out for any whining which may be your pump on the way out.
  10. I've just had some work done on my car recently by the guys at Wheelbase garage in Hersham near Weybridge, Surrey. They are superb in there. I had similar problems - but my car was running extra rich cos there was a problem with the fuel pressure due to a faulty valve and switch which resulted in the lambda probe not working correctly which created the erratic idle and cutting out at roundabouts due to a dodgy fuel / air mix. I searched on here for as many reasons as possible to explain by VR cutting out, and asked for help of the many guys on here who are much smarter than me. Armed with all of this information printed out from a word document where I'd saved all the suggestions, I passed this on to the garage who seemed even speedier than usual to resolve the problems (oh and some dodgy leads from german and swedish had been causing misfires too which were resolved with some new HDs). So I don'y know if it helps, but I reckon if you see the garage and show them that youve done your homework, it helps you get back on the road as soon as possible. Give them a list of suggestions, and hopefully, like me you will be lucky and the problem will be one suggested by the guys here.
  11. I have come across a 1993 G60 in Storm Grey. It has recently had a full VW exhaust fitted, and is completely standard with FSH and get this: 35,000 genuine miles on the clock! The seller is after 5k for it. What do you reckon?
  12. Cool, Thanks mate. just get the fingernails round the black bit and tug?
  13. Hi, this is possibly the easiest question ever. I have new rear VW badge to stick on my car - is there a trick to pulling the old badge off? I've never done it and dont want to do something I regret!
  14. Thanks everyone for your advice and assistance :)
  15. Full length scuttle cover? sounds like the wife's grundies!
  16. Good news - she's on the road again. £400 pounds lighter in the wallet department, but the guy reckons by ECU was sending the engine a load of nonsense. He reckoned that a lot of leaves and water had got in past the seal, so he said I need to keep it dry. He also reckoned I may be missing some sort of cover (something begining with 'p') that keeps leaves, water, old matresses and small birds nests out of that bit of the car. I'll understand if no-one has any idea what I mean, and will have a look through the forum to see if anyone else has asked this before.
  17. Oh no! I hope not. Jeez, this could be the most expensive mistake I've ever made. I have no idea why the oil light and buzzer didn't come on. I'm hoping that's a good sign and that it has cut out without too much knackered.
  18. I'm In Weybridge - near Egham / Woking / Kingston type of neck of the woods. I can't believe I was so stupid. I love my car, am dead proud of it and am gutted beyond belief. It's like a kind of grief I'm feeling, plus the worry about what it's going to cost!
  19. Hi All, I am rather sad to admit I haven't looked at my VR6's oil levels since Christmas, and today when my car didn't start I realised it was totally empty of oil. I shoved 2 litres of oil in, and when I tried to start it, there was a loud pop like backfiring. The recovery bloke said I'm getting a backdraft from sucking in air and that it would need to go to a garage tomorrow for work to be done. He said that potentially, since the engine can run for a few hundred miles without oil, it could have been getting damaged for a few weeks. What's everyone's opinion? What damage might I be looking at? How much might it cost? Can anyone please recommend some decent garages within 10 miles of Weybridge, Surrey (as far as my insurance will allow me to get it flatbedded on a lorry). I promise never to let that happen again once I've got this repaired! Cheers, Mark
  20. Hi All, I've been dying to get my car resprayed to a new colour, cos it's not great in white, and cos I want it to look sh1t hot! What do you get for your money? Do they take the engine out so that the engine bay matches, or will I end up with White under the bonnet and something else everywhere else? Do they take the whole car apart? I.e. do they take the doors apart to spray them? I don't want my car put back together in a shoddy way, all rattley! Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but I am totally clueless and dont want to be ripped off! Cheers
  21. Hi all, I've just smashed my Drivers side fog light, driving up the A41. Does anyone know where I might get one? Cheers, Djmac mailto:[email protected]
  22. I'm sad to say that one of the reasons I chose my C was because it had air con. I've moved down to Surrey from the North and was getting sick of sweating my rollocks off in my Golf. I don't use it much now, except like Dan to clear the steamy windows ;) but I had it turned on last week and the car wasn't pulling very well - I couldn't keep up with mini! - and then I looked down and had the air con on still. I turned it off and then was able to slingshot past!
  23. Mine is Candy White, but if I get some cash handy, I'm looking at a blackberry respray.
