I knew the place would do a good job - they had old astons, rollers, lambos and jags in, and the staff included some old guys as well as young whippersnappers. I like to see craftsmenship in a place like that, and it was great to know that the old boys were still able to take a pride in my car, even though it's just a VW. -

Thanks Colin, The car was always a sound, well maintained example, but was let down by the smell of a French Exchange student from the previous owner smoking what must have been woodbines or gitanes or something. He's also burned the leather which is horrible to do to nice Recaros. I did some research and found a local place that cleans and recolours leather, as well as panel repair. I decided to shell out £300 quid to get it done as the car just felt underloved with it's smelly, tired interior. Now it looks bright and clean and smells good too! -

Heheh, Thanks Andy - that's exactly how I described the colour to some mates last night who haven't seen my 4mo yet!!! I'd always thought of beige as an old mans colour - mainly because my dad's last 4 cars were all beige - but as soon as I got the wheels on I knew I'd pulled it off.
-
My 4mo is going to HAVE to go in for new suspension now. Mine is still original height after my 18s went on and seeing the way yours looks a bit lower has sealed the deal. DSC00942.JPG[/attachment:20es8c0i] I don't mind the walnut so much on the beige trimmed 4 mos. With black seats etc the walnut is like collars not matching cuffs, but at least with the cream trim it is not so bad. Now where's my pipe....
-
It reminds me of the Mk4 R32 a bit with that gaping front and wide separation on the tail pipes. Not bad.

I'm surprised no-one has put this one up yet! Oops, I just saw we are meant to make our own. Sorry I've ripped this off someone who is much better with computers than me!

*waves* hello! Hows your Vr? I'm up for that challenge... ;) Just give me a couple of months - I have plans and lots of shiney bits in a bag under my desk that i found in the workshop... The VR is still ticking along nicely, but it does cut out from time to time, so I may be back to have it on the diagnostics. It's always as I am under heavy braking, at least, so I am usually able to avoid crashing. At least I have been so far :)

Glad you got her moving at last. I remember you telling me red cars go quicker. We'll have to see on the a3 some time!
-
It went through my mind too!

I have my doubts about the aerodynamic efficiency of those additions there mate. Good work!

do you rub the paint down before you laquer? if so, how? everytime i try it looks crap. just done another wheel and its come out pretty rubbish, i think i'm going to have to sand it all back again :( I planned to do that, but I couldnt get it to look right either, so I ended up just letting the laquer smooth out the imperfections. I think your job looks better than mine.

I've always loved the Mk1 and 2, but haven't owned either. I actually didn't like the mk4 when it came out (preferring the chunkier squarer look of the Mk3 which I owned), but I now own one and think it lookks good. I didn't like the Mk5 when it came out either, especially the R32, which I thought was bonk compared with the mk4 R32. I now like it. I actually do like the Mk6 though!!!!! Does this mean it will be the first VW golf since 1991 that isn't a grower for me? I feel down less by this than the Scirocco, which is a travesty and perhaps why I have a better attitude to this.

Aftermarket Body Kit Abominations on VAG Group cars
djmac56 replied to djmac56's topic in General Car Chat
Hi Jim, I think you are right. Please don't think I did this to offend other car owners - it was just a bit of fun. But I know how much we all love our cars and how proud we become of them, and I love that the VW scene is so open minded and friendly - so perhaps it is better that it is locked down after all. Exactly my thought! -

Noted - I shall change it. I just thought it would be a way of covering all VWs, Audis etc, not just Rado's, but I can see exactly what you mean about how it reads. I'll change it pronto. -
I haven't seen a thread on dodgy body kits, so I thought I'd thought I'd start with this. Of course I appreciate that everyone has their own style and taste, and I don't want to offend anyone or to be narrow minded / elitist, but I thought this might be a fun topic. Here's one for starters...

I'm definitely up for one of these, as you'll gather / remember from the thread I started a few month's back : http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=66737 I think mk3yeti's idea is a winner - can you get them done in the proper forum font? I know the font is available to download! Cheers, Mark
