Mystic Blue Corrado VR6 Storm for sale £9750.00
mr.ots replied to mr.ots's topic in Cars for Sale [Corrado]
Car now sold. Mods please lock this up. -
Hi Lance, the only notable areas are along the leading edge of the bonnet, which is a few minor spots of surface rust from stone chips and a small area of touch up on the drivers door from a door being opened against mine.
I don't have photos at present but could email some if you can give me your email.

For sale is my 1996 Corrado VR6 Storm, which I have owned since 2005. The car has been regularly serviced and has a full VW service record up to 100,000 miles and then serviced by myself up to its current mileage of 119,800 miles. The car comes with an extensive full documentation showing all work carried out and receipts for all parts replaced. Work carried out includes: Oct 2011 - Oil & filter service (112,305 miles) Front pads replaced Front calipers refurbished (at Big Red) Rear discs and bearing replaced Rear pads replaced Replaced track control arm rear bushes (with R32 bushes) Replaced ball joints Replaced anti roll bar bushes Replaced drop links Dec 2013 - Full service (116,693 miles) Feb 2014 - Replaced power steering fluid Replaced Auxiliary Belt tensioner bearing June 2013 - Replaced all brake system hard lines (with Kunifer) from ABS pump to calipers Upgraded flexible brake hoses with Goodridge braided hoses July 2013 - Replaced crack pipe Replaced Water pump July 2016 - Refurbished brake master cylinder (professionally carried out by past parts) Replaced front discs & pads Replaced brake pressure regulator Mar 2019 - Removed rear beam and repainted & fitted new beam bushings Replaced rear shock absorbers and top mounts Repainted fuel tank straps May 2019 - Replaced front shock absorbers and top mounts Replaced tie rod ends Replaced steering rack bellows Replaced coolant thermostat Replaced thermostat housing coolant sensors x 3 Replaced oil cooler seals May 2019 - Carried out full service including Oil & Filter Air filter Fuel filter Spark plugs Ignition lead set The car has a current MOT expiring on 28/06/2020. There is 1 current advisory for a small oil leak from the oil cooler. The engine runs superbly and pulls like a train. All electrics on the car are in full working order, the spoiler raises at 60 mph and the sunroof both tilts and slides. The interior of the car is in superb condition with no cracks or tears to the seats or door cards. The original warning triangle and first aid kit are still present. The exterior of the car is in very good condition with only minor defects to the bodywork as you would expect for a car of this age. There is no major rust anywhere on this car including the underside which has been waxoyled as necessary to prevent corrosion. The sills are also in excellent condition. You will however find the usual stone chips on the bonnet and front wings and minor defects. The car also comes with the following items: Birth certificate from the Volkswagen Museum confirming production date of 3rd May 1995 and Storm specification. Extensive folder containing all documentation Every MOT certificate from the first one in 1999 to present Installation certificate for Clifford Concept 50 x car alarm and service receipt from Feb2007 17 road fund licence discs from Feb 2003 onwards 2 sets of keys with alarm fobs (all locks and ignition use same key) An additional set of BBS solitude wheels (require refurbishment). Hankook Evo V12 tyres all round with 6.5mm tread depth on the front and 7mm rears There are a couple of issues with the car at present which are the ABS light will sometimes stay on for a while after a cold start but goes off after driving for a while and the head lining is sagging and needs to be replaced. If you are looking for a totally standard, unmolested Corrado VR6 Storm then this is the car. I currently have an agreed insurance valuation from Admiral of £12,000. Please note, the personal registration is not included in the sale and will be removed prior to sale. The car is located in Addlestone, Surrey. Please PM me with any questions. Amazed to see this thread is still doing the rounds over 9 years after I started it without any definitive answer and yes, mine still does it. I gave up looking in the end 😊 Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

No mods, the car is totally standard. I'm 48 and had to declare a non fault and a 50/50 claim in the past 3 years. It's also declared as parked on the street outside my home. I did get a slight discount as I insured it on a multi car policy with my Audi A6 although that only brought it down around £15. The Audi came down around a £100. I put it down for 2000 miles a year although I didn't play with increasing it to see how it affects the price. It's the first time I've ever been quoted classic insurance but I guess it's because it just past the 20 year mark. I used compare the market and confused and Admiral were by far the cheapest. The next best were around the £300-400 mark. I asked for an £8k agreed value and after sending them the pics they asked for they agreed it. Very happy 😊 Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Admiral seem very good at the moment, mine was £120 fully comp with 8k agreed value and I live in central London. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Are drilled/grooved discs worth having? Peformance pads? Braided hose?
mr.ots replied to MZpog's topic in Drivetrain
Pagid standard disks and pads are a good option. I've just changed to them from green stuff pads and Brembo max disks and the breaking seems better to me. As said, performance pads need to heat up before they are fully effective, which isn't helpful on cold mornings. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk -
Thanks for the additional info easypops. I also found this link which gives the procedure for setting the regulator. http://workshop-manuals.com/volkswagen/corrado/v6-2792cc_2.8l_dohc/brakes_and_traction_control/hydraulic_system_brakes/brake_pressure_regulator_-_load_compensator_rear_wheel_brakes/component_information/adjustments/ Time permitting, I'll give this a go at the weekend. Thanks for the info. So taking the centre value for the rears that works out at 62.5% front bias at 50 bar and 66.3% at 100 bar so 65/35 was about right. I'll get adjusting 😊 Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Does anyone have the specific specs on the front to rear brake ratio? I've fitted a new rear proportioning valve and I'd like to set it as accurately as possible using line gauges. I've done a lot of searching and the closest info I could find suggests it's somewhere around 65% front to 35% rear. Any definitive answers out there? Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

Do VW have an embargo on talking about the Corrado
mr.ots replied to Chuggs1's topic in General Car Chat
At the time of it's production the VR6 Corrado was VW's fastest road going car. My favourite journalistic quotes were from Jeremy Clarkson who said "it's like a £20,000 Ferrari" and also likened it to Espresso... "one shot and it blows your head off" he he. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk -
The small green component in your picture of the motor internals is the culprit. It's a thermal trip and cuts the power to the motor when too much current is drawn. I removed mine and replaced it with a solid link years ago and never had another problem with it since. The circuit is still protected by the fuse at the fuse box. New Corrado VR6 Storm Owner - How do you know a Storm is a Storm?
mr.ots replied to c0vert's topic in Newbies Hangout
You really would need confirmation from VW Milton Keynes. That's the only way to be sure it's legitimate. -

mr.ots replied to c0vert's topic in Newbies Hangout
When I phoned Milton Keynes about mine just before I bought it they knew from their system that it was a Storm and I assumed from the conversation it must have said Storm in the details. This was nearly 12 years ago now though. -
New Corrado VR6 Storm Owner - How do you know a Storm is a Storm?
mr.ots replied to c0vert's topic in Newbies Hangout
You can't really tell from the VIN as the storms were scattered throughout the final 1300 cars produced. However, Milton Keynes should be able to confirm from the VIN on their system whether the car is a storm. Is the car green or blue? -
If anyone has one in reasonable condition could you drop me a pm with a price posted to London. Thanks Paul

White N reg VR on the A40 this afternoon near to target roundabout heading towards London. Lady driver. Would have waved as I passed but was in my A6 so might have looked like a loon 😁

Unipart probably went bust because they kept giving away free replacement batteries 😁

Check fuse 16

Don't know if its already been posted but the Corrado is included in a 90's coupe article in the latest edition of Practicle Classic Magazine. Given a good review as usual :-)

I have a 520d and as maff has said you will not unsettle the rear end with the traction control on. The "common" problem with the N47 engine fitted to late 2007 onwards cars, in the 1, 3 and 5 series is timing chains snapping. This relates to all 1.6, 1.8, 2.0 & 2.3 N47 diesels. But considering the numbers of these engines produced I suspect the incidence of this problem is still quite small. Mine is on 112k and still goung strong. Do a google search and youll find plenty of info on it in order to decide for yourself.
