right....mechanical timing. Take out number one spark plug. Put a stick down the hole. Turn the engine using a spanner or socket on the centre Crankshaft pulley bolt. Line up the Crank Pully and Cam pulley to each of their TDC marks. While doing so check that the stick rises to it's highest point when the crank and cam timing marks are aligned. Also check that the rotor in the distributor is pointing to the no.1 ignition mark on the dizzy body.

Check (or get someone you trust to check)the mechanical timing. I've come across too many cars that have been running for years with the cambelt a tooth (or even more) out. Bottom (crankshaft) pulley also needs to be checked for tightness.
-
I take it you have checked the mechanical timing of the engine?

i must have been in a different time zone when i wrote £2 per gallon.......pfffft. When i first started driving petrol was 35 pence per gallon. If only.

My Jeep only does an average of 16mpg. Do i need it? That's a matter of opinion, but the roads are so bad were i live that i have to have it to get to some places i visit. What people don't seem to realise is that if we all drive around in economical cars the Government will have to find the tax that is lost somewhere else. Where do you think they are going to find it? Yup....£10 per gallon here we come. It's a never ending circle. The answer is to use an alternative fuel but that's not going to happen soon because that would have too much of an impact on the world economy. No doubt if we all started to use LPG tomorrow they would tax us to the hilt on that.

There will be a new type of number plate later this year. see here :- http://www.dvla.gov.uk/pressoffice/pres ... ber+plates

You need an uprated headlight loom. Use the forum search to find out more.

What's the story behind all the plumbing under the front spoiler?
-
If i remember correctly....the VAG tensioner alone is £35 so your pattern parts were well cheap in comparison.
-
Or you can do what i did ......use a long bladed rubber handle screwdriver to short across the starter motor terminals with the ignition switched on. Watch out for the fireworks though.

Looks like you spent a lot of dosh, blood, sweat and tears on that car. What turbo have you installed?

It's an offence to sell an unroadworthy car. This applies to any seller whether they are a trader or a private seller. The car you were sold is definately unroadworthy in which case the seller should be reported to the Police and Vosa. The only legal way a person can sell an unroadworthy vehicle is by stating at the time of sale that the vehicle is sold for "spares or repairs". Repairing the cills with filler is a definate no no and any reputable MOT tester will fail a car for that. If you bought the car from a garage i suggest they either repair the car correctly or give you a full refund. If they won't do either then report them to the Police and Vosa. The Police will also inform Trading Standards and the garage will face prosecution for a number of offences and could also lose their trading licence.

i would say that looking at he's sig he drives a moonlight blue vr6. Yup .....i know that .....now......doh!! His name rings a bell.
-
Chris ...do you own a white VR, live in North Devon and work at a 4x4 garage?
-
The fine can be up to £1000. Just had to get a set of new plates made up myself because the ones on the car had too large a gap in the middle. Unfortunately i work next door to a VOSA test centre which resulted in a quiet word being spoken in my ear. a bit of reading for you here: http://www.plates4less.co.uk/number-pla ... lities.asp and http://www.dvla.gov.uk/media/pdf/leafle ... plates.pdf Personally i can't see why they make such a fuss about the spacing. As long as you don't re-arrange the letters/numbers the plate still reads the same.
-
Greetings Chad :) You might already know this but you want to be carefull about the spacing on yer number plate. Plod and, in particular, VOSA are paying a lot of attention to those sorts of things at the mo. Car looks in lovelly nick

I remember a chap on here from Ireland asking me if i would go and look at a car for him in Exeter. He ended up coming over to look at the car himself in the end. Pretty sure it was the same one.

Well.....some of you may have noticed i have been hanging around this forum for the past couple of weeks. After a 2 and a half year break since i owned my last and first Rado i now own another. Picked the car up today from Rustynuts, who kindly collected me from the railway station, and after a few hours drive down the M5 i completely remembered why i missed my last Rado so much. There doesn't seem to be hardly any of the people i remember from 2 or so years ago on here. Those that are still here .....hello again *wavey wavey* and those that don't yet know me.....Hi and maybe i'll get to meet you at some of the meets this year. Will post up some pics of the car when the weather improves.

I would imagine that the wires are shorting against each other where they hinge passing through to the hatchback. If that makes any sense to you.
-
Are we right to assume you have replaced the ignition switch?
-
First signs of a head gasket leaking is excess pressure in the cooling system. This can result in hoses splitting plus plastic elbows and plastic rad tanks cracking. I suggest you get a compression test done on each cylinder.
